J.S. #Bach , G. P. da #Palestrina and Maurice #Duruflé have all travelled decades or centuries forward to our time to touch our hearts and minds this Sunday by musically breaking open the scriptures in unique ways. A profound spiritual from our own African-American tradition also will be sung by the Schola Cantorum today. Come hear it, and read all about it in the Choral Highlights feature on our website front page www.stmatthewscathedral.org. #sacredmusic#dcevents
Sang Bach's Mass in B Minor 10 years ago. This was where I had a crash course on everything about choral singing and interpretation in period style. Always very excited to apply the knowledge when singing Baroque (Bach's motet 'Lobet den Herrn', Vivaldi's Magnificat, Buxtehude's Membra Jesu Nostri) and Classical choral works (Mozart's Requiem), and sharing with friends from other vocal ensembles. Heartening to know also that there are church choral conductors who have stylistic awareness and are keen to teach these skills to their parish singers, especially in an upcoming musical offering of Vivaldi's Gloria.
May I invite you tomorrow to the
St. Leopold Feast with the

Don't miss the next appointment with the Kirchenchor Grinzing, celebrating the feast of St. Leopold with the great music of Viennese Classicism. In the frame of the chamber music, the evocative delicacy of the Mass in G major by Franz Schubert meets the perfect elegance of the Church Sonatas by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in a graceful mix. On this special occasion, which joins spirituality and culture, the suggestion of this Viennese high considered feast meets the opportunity to listen and appreciate the precious historical organ of the Church of Grinzing and to know its pleasant community.
Save the date! We're looking forward to meeting you! #music#choir#classicalmusic#sacredmusic#beauty#culture#musicianlife#concert#conducting#maestro#vienna#austria#church#mozart#schubert
"What if our religion was each other. If our practice was our life. If prayer, our words. What if the temple was the Earth. If forests were our church. If holy water was the rivers, lakes, and ocean. What if meditation was our relationships. If the teacher was life. If wisdom was self-knowledge. If love was the center of our being." ~ Ganga White

🌞Getting some morning work done on my book while having the lovely tea we bought in Nuwara Eliya (with cane jaggery from Goa). I'm having "Latin Pronunciations for Singers" translated into 🇫🇷🇪🇸🇩🇪🇮🇹 while in 🇮🇳. 🤓
Brett Sweeney, tenor (pictured left), values APERI ANIMAM's goal to present early music repertoire in fresh ways.
"Our commitment to foregoing the traditional constructs of a choir concert speaks to the creativity within the group and is what made Pro Defunctis such a fulfilling experience for me as a performer. I think the thoughtful programming of the music, collaboration with dancers, and intimate space was successful in creating an atmosphere that invited the audience to surrender to the moment and just let the art breathe."

Mystical medicine song by @justina.quetzal , is out now, link in Her bio, stream it for free!
Titled ‘Carrying the Flame’, she channeled this song while we were in Brazil drinking medicine, last winter. This one came through for her at the waterfall. To me, this song invokes the energy of victory, rebirth, renewal, and resurrection. I co-wrote the second verse with her, and it’s been an honor to both witness and support, the development of this album, step by step. So proud of you Justine! Her full debut album drops Friday December 7th! 🔥🔥

Are you performing William Byrd's "Ave verum corpus" the way it was pronounced in his day? If not, did you know that Queen Elizabeth I mandated the English pronunciation of Latin? Here is the IPA for the Ave verum corpus as Byrd would have heard the text when he set it to music. Try this with your choir and post a recording! I would love to hear the results!💟[ævi virʊm kɔrpʊs nætʊm di mərəɪa vɪrdʒɪni
