1) What do you love about yoga?
Baptiste yoga is one of very few intensive physical activities I have ever been able to commit to on a daily basis because the practice is so much more than physical– as we like to say, it’s not about the poses. The peace I find every time I practice, & the peace and presence that I carry off of my mat and into my life, and into the lives of others, provide a continuous reminder of the transformational nature of this practice.
2) How would you describe your teaching style?
I have been called “high energy” more than a few times in my life. I also have a background in public speaking– even before yoga, public speaking had a way of centering me. I have always been fully present when speaking in front of a group of people, and as my practice evolves, I become more and more present in each asana. I bring that presence, and all of my energy (and the nature of that changes every day!) to each class I teach.
3) What makes Core special?
Core is possibility. The day I walked in, it was a yoga studio. Today, it is my second home. The community we have at Core empowers each person who walks through our front door to explore the space, themselves and their practice. If you just want a place to come practice hot yoga with seriously good people, great! If you want a family, we’ll welcome you with open arms. If you desire transformation, we’ll help you find your way.
4) Favorite pose or poses? Why?
My favorite pose is Tree. Again, possibility. Each time I practice this asana is different. It’s an incredible heart opener when you bring your biceps and shoulders behind your ears, opening your chest to the front wall. Various poses bring up different emotions for different yogis, and some of my most powerful insights have come in Tree.
5) What are your favorite things outside of yoga?
I’m a full time student studying political science and economics at UMKC, and I’m an avid newspaper reader. I enjoy philosophy. I love music– especially EDM (electronic dance music), punk and emo rap. Anything outside, especially hiking and running.
Yesterday, I graduated from my teacher-training program and can officially call myself a RYT200! Thank you so much to @komhotyoga and @yogi_mommi for giving me this opportunity! -Yoga in the rain (in December) ✔️
A few days ago I participated in The Unsung Heroes event, organized by @lululemon , honoring some badass caddies of the @pga . It was hosted by @hotelpalms and a memorable night to say the least. After everyone got checked in and settled, I led the group through some mindfulness/breathing techniques and then a yoga practice. Shortly after we began it started to rain and after it became too intense we eventually wrapped up early, but not without a great memory!
From there we changed clothes and met back in the courtyard for dinner and bonfire where we shared stories, laughed, and connected. The next morning the group met for a great workout led by Justin @cfjacksonvillebeach .
A great time was had by all.
Special thanks to @lizakale @lauraragsss @robbietubajon and everyone on the #lululemon team. Especially @digitallinds a photography ninja.

I cannot wait to dive into this book. So many people tell me that they cannot do yoga because it is boring. I have never had that problem. In so many ways, yoga saved my life. Like I said yesterday, I am no stranger to stress and anxiety. Over the last three years, my mat has been one of the few places that my mind is FREE. Free of the lists, stress, and anxiety. When I step on my mat, all of my struggles magically melt away and I can just focus on me and on my breath. When I go more than a week without my practice, I feel it mind, body, and soul.
Yoga is about so much more than the postures. Asana is only one of the 8 limbs of yoga. Did you know that? Yoga is not only about the time spent on your mat, it is a way of living. Bringing more yoga and the peace that comes with it into my life off the mat is the main reason I signed up for a 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training. I cannot wait to dive into the Sutras. 🧘♀️ .

Real talk? I’m am feeling this new energy stirring up and awakening within me. I feel so famished, starving to understand it. Now post Teacher Training, my quest has only just begun. I no longer crave those same vrittis I once had a palette for. I want to dive deeper in my practice and in spiritual teachings. I am here and so ready, and want 2019 to bring me further and more connected. I am asking for guidance! Miami, if you resonate with any sort of classes, workshops, meditation and philosophy groups... please share. #2019manifestation#ryt200#saraswati#plantedseed#readytogrow
“WHAT’S YOUR HOBBY?” They ask. 😅😅 THAT QUESTION ALWAYS BREEDS EMBARRASSMENT for me because everyone knows that really great, perfectly balanced, super well-rounded people have HOBBIES. So, this question makes me feel a tad like The Emperor with No Clothes - suddenly exposed and vulnerable because...who has time for hobbies? 🤷🏻♀️ MAYBE THIS IS JUST MY OWN JUSTIFICATION, but if I’m going to do ANYYYYYTHING, I need for it to feel productive. Which SEEMS like the antithesis of a hobby. I know. But I’ve decided that it’s not. •• About 5 years ago, I attended my first hot yoga class. I had zero expectations, but someone told me you could burn crazy calories and well, it wasn’t RUNNING so I was up for it. •• MY FIRST CLASS WAS NOT FUN. In fact, I said I would never do another one. *I always wanted to be a dancer, but well, I have zero rhythm and I can never respond to cues fast enough. So when the yoga instructor started flying through the vinyasa, I was choking on her dust. And it was HOT. Really hot. 🥵🥵 BUT I HAD PAID FOR 5 CLASSES up front, and this girl doesn’t waste a purchase. So, I went back 4 more times. The 99 degree room didn’t feel so suffocating (by my 4th class), and I was starting to realize there was a sequence in every class. 🧘🏻♀️🧘🏻♀️ MY BRAIN NEVER TURNS OFF. ANNNNND I’m a girl, who likes to get ish done so I live and thrive in a constant state of texts, calls, emails, brainstorming, etc. It’s good to turn your brain off sometimes, but if you’re like me...you probably can’t. 🧠🧠 UNLESS...you’re in a 99 degree room for a solid 60 minutes, trying to keep up with a sequence so you aren’t embarrassed because you’re still stuck in downward dog while everyone else is hopping to the top for a standing position. That’s a REALLY GOOD environment for letting go of your other distractions. Because I don’t care, who you are: 99 degrees is hot. It’s stifling. It’s ON YOUR MIND. 🗣🗣 SO I STARTED TO LOVE THAT 24x68 SPACE. I knew we couldn’t bring our phones into the room and in the attempt to focus on simply SURVIVING, I didn’t really think about much else. 🤯🤯 *continued in comments
"As my heart turns to finding objects to appreciate,
I can realize that my day is full of gratifying things. I appreciate every day
There are days when I can not thank you.
By appreciating everything that is now,
It can be kind to people, I can spend with a smile.
We open the door to receive ourselves.
Give thanks to people and give love.
I gradually changed myself
Your own energy will also increase.
Gratitude is love.
Thinking of becoming a yoga teacher? Here’s what one of our Yoga Flow Grads has to say about her experience:
My fellow classmates became instant friends and we were immediately a support system for one another. There is such a beautiful comfort in friendships that allow you to truly express yourself, without judgment. You have to really connect with and show your true soul in order to teach yoga. I feel forever intertwined with my training class; in YTT you have to be vulnerable in ways you never expected and that leads to authentic, courageous, and compassionate connections. By the end of YTT, these people I barely knew 6 months before, ended up feeling more like family than classmates. A yoga tribe is the family you get to choose. 💖💖
