This week’s theme is 19th century bodices. The FRC is home to quite a few of these delicate beauties. This one specifically is from the 1890s and is in pretty good condition considering its age. It’s made of cobalt blue silk with brown cotton lining and a lace trimmed collar. According to The Dress Detective written by Ingrid Mida, the large gigot puffed sleeves were a defining element of 1890s fashion. Catalogue number FRC2013.99.049.
Can #fitness help break the cycle of #poverty ? Ryerson nutrition student Katie Heggtveit is bringing weekly fitness programs to homeless shelters through @bootcampsforchange. TRSM student Amanuel Gessess is the proud recipient of a $10,000 Bennett Entrance Award for First Generation Students. This renewable award assists high school graduates who are the first generation in their family to attend university.
Currently in his first year of Accounting and Finance at TRSM, Amanuel was born in Sudan to Ethiopian parents. His family moved to Canada when Amanuel was just five-years-old.
Amanuel is leaning towards a career in finance after he completes his Ryerson education. “I have always had an interest in numbers and how money works. In high school, I had amazing teachers that showed me new concepts of accounting and finance,” he says. #thisistrsm#congratulations#finance#accounting#ryerson#ryersonu
For the first time since its inception 44 years ago, this year’s shortlist for the 2018 Toronto Book Awards is comprised entirely of authors of colour. Dionne Brand’s “The Unpublished City”, David Chariandy’s “Brother”, Carrianne Leung’s “That Time I Loved You”, Lee Maracle’s “My Conversations with Canadians” and Kerri Sakamoto’s “Floating City” skillfully reexamine and effuse the voices of the ever-shifting landscape of Toronto’s literary community.
SERPENT48 by Zallah Akbari, Ilanit Frolov ( @ifrolovyouart ), Anna Li ( @clairedelune.al ), and Nicole Young ( @nicoleyoungdesigns ) is an exploration of how the duality of stark contrasts can create an active and exciting space. The original orthogonal building merges with the organic, snake-like ramp which exists in a modern glass structure. The building is a multifunctional space; combining a family diner, bar, arcade and a feature roller skating rink which, in part exists on the ramp itself. / Studio Instructor : Joanne Lam #ryersonschoolofinteriordesign#rsid
Spanish street artist Okuda San Miguel teamed up with Toronto artists to create this incredible 23-storey mural on the side of the Parkside Student Residence at Jarvis and Carlton streets, near Ryerson University.
Known for his surrealist multi-coloured paintings in public spaces across the world, this is San Miguel's first work featured in Toronto and his tallest piece ever.
The project was organized by The STEPS Initiative, a public arts charity that aims to decrease vandalism and increase beauty among Toronto's neighbourhoods, and the City of Toronto's StreetARToronto program that promotes community engagement.

Tomorrow is the day! Being a Possibility Officer for the week with @possibility_camp. I love this title - and in a way it’s what I do every day. This feels extra special because I am spending the week with young girls. Imagine having the opportunity to learn about leadership, technology, confidence, public speaking and the power of being YOU when you were aged 8-13. I think it’s going to have a BIG impact. 💗🙏😍
