Do you prefer the uphill climbs or downhill flies more? It’s safe to say I get the biggest rush when I’m cruising down a beautiful trail and it’s all unwinding right before my eyes .
Sometimes it’s hard to know when to let go of people, of places, of ideas of who we are supposed to be. It can be hard to drown out the world so you can hear your own voice. This is why we go to places that makes us feel small, places that give us enough quiet to reconnect with our own voices.
A ranger greeted us at the trailhead with "ahh trail runners". We do run, he was right about that. But really a majority of our miles are made up of song and dance. If he had seen us a just a few minutes later, he would have observed us in our true form... trail performers.
This run was made possible by Disney's Pocahontas and The Little Mermaid. •
Okay, last post on this subject, but had an absolutely amazing time this weekend testing out a longer run at the Dead Horse Ultra. I couldn’t have asked for better weather, scenery, race crews, and fellow runners. Special thanks of course to @peakbagginparents for giving me the extra push to race and for the 📷 evidence that I did actually make it!#deadhorseultra#deadhorse50k#runhappy#wmwranglers
I just couldn’t wipe the stupid grin off of my face, after a dark and chilly start this morning, with headlamp lights dancing on the trail.
We made it up to the top of a climb, just in time to catch the first glimpses of the sunrise; what a special moment!!
We started out with 3 of us gals, but one in our party wasn’t feeling it, and had to turn back early (xoxo 🙏🏻💕 next time!!).
For quite a while now, I’ve been wanting to run the Duckabush Trail in its entirety, and I’m so happy that I finally got to experience it, overgrown brush, downed trees and all 😅 (but really, it was so beautiful.)
It was so tempting to take the trail up to La Crosse pass and looping it with a few other passes, which would have added quite a significant amount of elevation gain and extra mileage; but we decided to save that route for next year, when the weather is warmer and the days are longer!
We made our way down the Skokomish river trail, and finished at Staircase.
33 miles and just about 6500ft of elevation gain.
Couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day! Not a cloud to be seen! Though it was so cold and very icy along many parts of the trail.
Excited to take a little running break for real this time; just couldn’t resist fitting in one more fun adventure!! 😄
This #mountaincrushmonday goes out to California. Big thanks to @pants_lewis & @jwlevitt, & the rest of the local trail community for organizing an awesome trail run, #DonnerPeak50k , when #ECSCA was cancelled. And kudos to @thenorthface for matching our fundraising efforts. Check out #thegingerrunner tonight (@ethannewberry) to hear Jon talk about all the fun we had & why we did it.
Seriously can't believe how incredibly beautiful everything was in Colorado Springs yesterday after the freeze! Frost and ice everywhere combined with sunshine make for some pretty unique experiences and I'm so glad we got out to enjoy it a little bit! I hope everyone has an easy week leading up to Thanksgiving! @crittnichole and I are heading to Utah for 4 days! What's everyone else planning?
Just me and one super yoked deer out for dawn patrol this morning. Like he definitely lifts, bro. Okay in hindsight it was probably an elk...but it was really dark and funnier than it should have been to my partially caffeinated brain 🦌🏃🏻♀️
What a day to go out and bravely try to honor a friend by climbing in the environment that was his final resting place. I was scared. When I got to the ridgeline and it was knee deep snow and I only had running shoes, I was scared. (Turns out my feet are a furnace and stay warm no matter what I do). But, at the time it was new for me and I was afraid. Afraid of falling. Afraid of freezing to death. Afraid of hurting myself and having to call SAR on myself 🙄 ....but I was not alone. *I sent out gps locations throughout the adventure. *I didn't hike by myself.
When I was utterly terrified and my respirations exceeded my ability to keep them calm, @mountains_to_climb turned around, held both my hands, and walked BACKWARDS UPHILL to guide me through the deep snow, up the ridgeline to the trail ahead (my safe place because I know that trail above). 😍❤😍❤😍😍❤😍❤😍❤
The tragedy with Derrik has brought me a profound awareness of the dangers in the mountains.....how easily we can all make a mistake that will cause us to never return. It has made me more careful and also brought me close to people I never knew and closer to the ones I did. I would be remiss to not remark upon my lessons learned and I will continue to do so for a while.
If that's not your cup of tea or it hurts to be reminded, or you just don't want to see it, then no hard feelings and best wishes on your journey. This is my journey and to sort out what I have been through, I am choosing to write it out. Unfortunately, social media has become my journal by default, so......ENJOY!

Supposedly the shadow of this monolith points to the location of sought after gold out in these mountains. Unearthing the loot may not be in the cards for me, but I treasure this view all the same 💰
This is the face you make when you run 100 miles (and 15,000 vertical feet) in a week. Thanks to all my running friends, and the beautiful Hawaii outdoors, for making this past week as easy and fun as it was! #personalmilestone#hurt100training#wookierunshawaii
I don't believe the breakdown of tickets per applicant has been posted, but there are nearly 1,000 more #WS100 lottery applications for 2019 than 2018 (5,879 vs 4,909). I'll never be without hope, but the odds are going to remain long for several years. I guess that means I'll be running Black Canyon 100k annually to stay on the ticket train. 😎 #aravaiparunning#runsteepgethigh#trailrunning#couchpotatoshit
🔸 What makes me choose to go running in the mountains is the diversity and how the physical challenges it provides can metaphorically work it’s way into anything you may be working through in your life.
