Neither the fastest nor longest run, but sometimes it’s just about getting back out there. I’ve been thoroughly enjoying my extended no-run break of the past week but I said no more this evening. Bonus shoutout for the #vomero14 for being a nice springy ride. No wide versions meant I had some mid foot pain but I blame not running for a week more than the shoes. Only time will tell ⏰
We laughed, we cried, we told great stories, talked about amazing charities and clubs we worked with, why we run after all these years and quoted sex in the city at the same time - @gottarunwithwil interview ✔️ ... @caribguy76 I think we should take our show on the road (I’m talking @ryanseacrest @j_corden @theellenshow etc) ... 🤣🏃🏻♀️⭐️💯 @nycmarathon @footlockernyc @nbrunning #runNYC#tcsnycmarathon#flfbcpamela
With fall marathons behind us and spring races a few months out, now is a great time to find the best running shoe for you. But how do you know what shoe to choose?
"More researchers have recommended selecting shoes based on comfort. The theory is that the more comfortable the shoe, the more it allows your foot to move in its preferred path, requiring less overall work from the lower legs."

What does it mean to be “HEALTHY?”
Ultimately, “health” is not about flawless and unwavering dedication to eating clean, working out, sleeping 8 hours, drinking a kombucha-kale-crystal-energy smoothie EVERY day. Although, of course, those *are* important elements. (Except the smoothie part, I made that up.)
I define HEALTH as having the ~willingness~ to keep COMING BACK to those things every time you stray away, have a bad day, skip 1 workout, or 47. Movement, training, and living an inspired life is how I define myself; it is the lens through which I see the world. To have that all limited because of a chronic debilitating illness has been a game changer.
. . .
So how am I getting through it? Well, this isn’t the first time I’ve hit rock bottom where I had to readjust, learn, and grow from the shit that life has handed me. I’m calling on my experience that I’ve had in picking myself back up when I fallen hard, again and again. I’m trusting the process, and taking it one day at a time. . . .
I’m sharing my struggles with you, because perhaps you are struggling too. If you are, just know I’m here for you 💥❤️💪🏽

Very Personal Confession: sometimes running is hard and I don’t feel like doing it. Yesterday’s 6 miles and today’s 8 were not super pleasant. It was cold, windy, and I’ve gotten to the point where I wear only one layer even in the 30s because I would always rather be a little too cold than a little too warm. But the cold and wind lately seem to make me slouch which makes me feel tired and becomes a vicious circle. I haven’t been doing lower body strength training so uphills are a struggle. My eating in December has been somewhat of a free-for-all (it’s December, the month that doesn’t count!) so maybe that hasn’t been helping. It also apparently feels harder when I’m not specifically training for a marathon. But I plow through anyway. I decided a few years ago that the mental anguish of not wanting to do something and doing it anyway isn’t nearly as anxiety-producing as not wanting to do something, not doing it, and having to live with myself. So I do it, I hate it, and then it’s over. And then I realize it wasn’t really so bad after all.

I had a good run today. I’m happy with the pace, but the real win was how I felt. For the first time in over a week, it felt GOOD. ⠀
It’s easy to spend a lot of time focusing on the bad days, but when the good days come around, we often just brush them off.
Appreciating the wins are what get you through the losses. We remember what we pay attention to. If you’re only paying attention to your bad days, you’re going to lose perspective and make them way too important. ⠀
Do what you need to do to get through the bad days. But when the days are good, don’t forget to celebrate.
How honest do you want to be with yourself? I have been inspired by the writings of Pema Chodron. My yoga practice has changed with the work I’m doing in my 500 hours. I sit with myself. I breathe. I am uncomfortable but instead of numbing those feelings with unhealthy habits I am walking through it. Dealing with it. Honestly and wholeheartedly being honest with myself. She writes in her book when things fall apart “it’s a transformative experience to simply pause instead of immediately filling up the space. By waiting, we begin to connect with fundamental restlessness as well as fundamental spaciousness” The most powerful tool we all have is our breath. Slowing down. Listening to our breath and truly bring honest with ourselves.
Join me Monday’s and Tuesdays @ YMCA to experience traditional teachings in the lineage of TKV Desikachar. A simple flow focusing on breath awareness. It all starts with the willingness to show up on the mat and begin shedding away the layers. #yogateacher#rebirth

2015 I was in it to win OSR half marathon!! But did not take the right type of strategy to guarantee the victory. But Iran lights out also trying to intimidate my competition. Eventually I finished second just behind the leader. The cool thing about this photo it made it official I am definitely a New Yorker.

Sesamoid bones do for the first metatarsophalangeal (MTP--no way am I typing that out a bunch!) joint what the kneecap does for the knee:⠀
👣 Protection from impact⠀
👣 Improved mechanical advantage for the muscles running over/around them⠀
😩 And just like the kneecap, the sesamoid bones can get in big trouble.⠀
😱 When your kneecap has issues, it's usually overuse and poorly balanced muscles.⠀
💡 Works the same way with the sesamoids.⠀
💎 Here's how to deal with sesamoid pain:⠀
👉 Get shoes with better cushioning and ditch the heeled shoes (yes gents, that means the sneakers with heavily padded heels and some dress shoes!) to calm down the inflammation.⠀
👉 Strengthen your intrinsic foot muscles (the ones that start and end in the foot) to maintain the integrity of your foot structure⠀
👉 Give your flexor hallucis brevis extra attention; it needs both heads balanced to even out the forces on your sesamoids.⠀
👣 Your big toe has obviously evolved to bear weight; look at the size and thickness of the bone, plus the existence of the sesamoids.⠀
💎 Just do it sensibly. ⠀
