Ive put a few more words pictures and a bit of structure to a report about my Ridgeway run from Didcot to Ashbury yesterday. Not a massive repot but some nice pictures! Enjoy.
Massive run for me today up onto the ridgeway. Comfortably my longest ever run by 6km. Was a real challenge over 300m of elevation, heavy rain and slippery chalk paths. Utterly satisfied I managed it. Set a goal and go out and achieve it people!!
Making the first steps into becoming a runner isn’t easy. Especially with so many family and lifestyle aspects to juggle. I’ve been blogging my journey so far at ridgewayrunner.com Feel free to take a look
Well this mornings run was a real effort. 4 days of consistent effort this week so far and I think my legs were feeling it a bit. Managed 12.3Km in 4:30 min/Km average and got some good pace sections too. Happy overall but did have to bail out early on the last session. Knackered and got to get to work too without feeling utterly smashed! This weeks runs so far though just under 50Km speed 4:30 - 4:47 min/km so happy with that and so pleased that 14 months running has resulted in some satisfying progression. Hope you all enjoy your runs today and make the most of the cooler weather 😀
Now two days rest before the weekly long run Sunday 🏃🏻♂️
Progression run this morning. Targeting 4 x 20 min increasing speed finishing with final period at half marathon pace. Had to shorten final part as time was pressing and I had work to get to! Hard effort though this morning. But getting cooler from tomorrow :)
Okay I’ve finally decided to post this. This was a photo of me taken on the @lakeland_50_100 (50) im not sure I’ve seen such a bad photo of me running. This photo was taken shortly after going over on my ankle for the first time. (Total 2). I think in the race I performed to the best that I could, not hindered by a fracture to the radial head of my right Ulna, which I did on the Wednesday, x-rayed on the Thursday and results in the car en-route on Friday. Consultant after the race was happy and a said I had no reason to not race - was in pain but not hindered by it (except on the styles and the one scramble bit up jacobs ladder !
Still I look grumpy and pissed off. Believe me I wasn’t. I was ecstatic to be racing the Lakeland 50 - 8 years after I’d done my previous. Very happy to finish on 10hours 14 . taking 8hours 15 off my previous time .

#mondaymotivation All you need is yourself, a pair of trainers and the great outdoors. Don’t worry about how far or how fast, don’t worry if you don’t have the most expensive gear. Go and explore, go and live the world around you. Exercise and the world around you is a great combination
Didn’t feel like it before I went out this morning. Really busy day yesterday and the duvet was really calling my name. BUT I said ‘no!’ And went out and somehow managed a new 10Km pB and got some top 10 all time Strava segment times too! Happy days
Change nothing and nothing changes!
Saw this quote and thought just how true it reflects that first step forward when you realise you need to improve things in your life. Getting fit and healthy doesn’t just happen, it doesn’t appear overnight just because you think it’s a good idea. If you want change you need to make change. It might be physical, mental, emotional, financial it could be many things but without making changes you shouldn’t expect a change to happen! We can all make it happen if we want it enough and are prepared to make even just some small changes. Make it happen people !!!!
Since running these past 12 months I’ve learnt this lesson through trial and error and feel I’ve achieved more through listening to and understanding what my body, muscles, lungs, brain etc are telling me. #wednesdaywisdom
Starting to think about readying for tomorrow’s long run. I know loads of you can go further but I’m targeting >23Km tomorrow which will be my longest single run ever. So happy with what I’ve achieved in a year from being somebody that didn’t own a pair of trainers to somebody positively planning 20Km + runs on a Sunday morning. Where has the old me gone!!!
A great week...started with 8.26 for 3000m, followed by 14.41 for 5000m last night at Eltham @britishmilersclub, topped off with a brilliant birthday meal with my number one fan @audsk1 tonight! @abtraininggroup
So today I actually decided to signup for the #RunBritain stats page and was a little bit in awe at what I saw. You can literally see the stage where our club, the amazing @farsleyflyers was founded and my training commenced.
Today’s #morningrun is 12Km in a little under 1hr. Felt chilly to start with but that was soon forgotten and it was definitely warming up by the time I finished!! Have a great Tuesday everyone and if you are planning a run - go smash it #smashedit
