Some times life takes you to places that are just magical. Zero home comforts but the wild living on stage races can be incredible, friendships form and the environment can capture you in ways you didn’t think possible. Starting a race from one of the natural 7 wonders of the world was also something special. We only have #oneplanet and we need to ensure we don’t kill it, we’ve been doing a great job of trying.
I was very lucky to be able to run the #grand2grand @g2g_m2m_ultra in such a remote part of America, a digital detox, everything felt basic, eat, sleep, run, recover and repeat. In the recovery stage we got to talk to great people from many different parts of the word and backgrounds.
Surprisingly though there was a high percentage drop out, over 20%. No one dropped after the long day, which was day 3 on this race (day 4 on most other stage races ) this being a small field 111 finished, the camaraderie was great in camp and on the course. Language barriers were there, but you got the gist in giving and receiving support! I fell in love with desert racing after @marathondessables in 2017. I didn’t think I’d get that feeling again, but g2g surpassed my expectations. .

#maverickrace at #stonorpark that was brutal. Nearly broke me but I survived and I will be back 👍💪🏅. Hills like never before sums that up!! And thanks for the beer. It’s chilling nicely in the fridge for later 🍺
Today’s 10Km had 4 x 3 min speed intervals with 2 min rests. Keeping it tidy ahead of the Maverick Stonor 21Km onSaturday. Tried out the new @petzl_official #reactik head torch. Really comfy and really effective 👍👍👍
Not often you get two race numbers in the post on the same day especially ones that are target races.
This year so far has not totally gone to plan in terms of hitting certain PBs however I know the training has come along way this year especially this last month that I know I’m in PB shape.
This is going to be a packed and exciting month with the Manchester HM next week, British Fell Relays in Grasmere the week after before the Leeds Abby Dale Dash 10k in the first week of November.
Fingers crossed I can tick off the end of the year with some new PBs and some new targets for next year 🤙
Used some training workouts from #mensrunning magazine #mensrunningmagazine and mixed in 5 x 1km runs at progressive speeds from 5min /km to 4min/km. mix of weights, core and strength. Knackered now but really looking to build some general and core strength to improve my running 💪
Recovery run 2. 10K easy pace and the legs are back. Now to get a couple of pre Maverick Race runs in - with some speed sessions and hopefully some trails. Has everyone managed to recover from theneeekend
A bunch of official pics from the #windsorhalfmarathon thanks to Marathon Photos website for these. Got a whole bunch of #flyingfeet pics which is cool. Such a great event this photos are really cool 😀👍
Yesterday's effort gave me a new VO2 max. I've reached this dizzy height before and only sustained it for 1 run (then garmin told me I was being unproductive 🙄) so I'll enjoy the status whilst it lasts anyway!! Really interested to know how high we can expect to achieve at the top of our game (particularly female athletes).... can anyone shed some light for me?
I think I started on 49 when I got my garmin watch in May.
Windsor Half Marathon 2018. New pb 1:24:20. Very hilly but managed to stay strong. Tried a new higher cadence technique (chi running), trying to keep around 180spm. Easier said than done on such an undulating course but it's definitely something I'm going to work on now. Previously I was averaging 167 and overstriding causing some hip and knee pain as these joints were taking the brunt of my heel striking, which in turn was slowing me down. Thanks to @benparkes whose videos I've been watching this week and have inspired me to train and race using this new technique. #windsorhalf#windsorhalfmarathon#halfmarathon#runnersworld#runbritain#ukrunchat
So, nearly there for #windsorhalfmarathon . Fartelks this morning and at an average pace matching my current HM PB pace so looking good for Sunday to challenge that PB I’m hoping. Probably one more gentle 5 km tomorrow and then it’ll be Sunday Funday. Hope everyone taking part has a cracker and look forward seeing each and everyone of you after the race 😁👍
