Just a casual Friday yesterday trekking up a mountain and asking my sweaty best friend @holly.catlow to marry me. “We’re never photogenic anyway, and it’ll make the most memorable moment of our lives just that bit more personal”. @mjsully94 did such a great job on the photo cred that I couldn’t not propose to him with a hand crafted straw ring too! #engaged#rubyring#perfectfit#salève#montblanc#adulting#bestfriend#sweaty#gladiworewhite

I source the gemstones anywhere and everywhere, via auction houses or broken old pieces of jewellery in second hand shops. It can be frustrating, sometimes I just want to buy all the colourful newly- mined ones, but who mined them? Whose body ached for them? These two were sourced in Rajasthan, India. They were found in an old box filled with vintage and second hand gemstones which had been tossed in over the years by travellers who wanted to have different, newer gemstones set in their pieces jewellery... Upon my request of old gemstones, the owner of the shop agreed there was no doubt that the mining in industry is filled with exploitation. While he felt that the gemstone cutters in India would be happy to have a job cutting stone, he admitted that the conditions in Africa (from where many of the raw pieces came) undoubtedly involved slavery. The man was wealthy and his shop was full of westerners buying new diamonds and expensive stones in great quantities. He didn't need my small financial contribution but patiently he had his workers go fetch me the old box to sift through. Many of the pieces had chips, old glue and some were even still attached to bezels. When I finished, he sat down with me and told me which ones were fake or poor quality. We put them back in the box and I took the good ones.
At the end, he told me that he could see I didn't have much money and he wanted to help me. He said "Look around you, all these people spend thousands every day. But you are a true artist and I believe in your work. Don't ever chase the money because then you will lose yourself. You must continue on your path..." His name was Govinda.
Ruby crystals. These gorgeous crystals come from Tanzania. Notice the two different color hues of the same mineral red Corundum, but from different locations around the mine. Ruby has always been the stone of passion, protection, and prosperity. Both seem to have a globular shape and are on sale. 20% OFF in the Etsy shop.
Gahh another jewellery share but I waited so long to finally get a little @tessametcalfe piece and I finally have one. Scroll to see her up close but she’s a beautiful small ruby enclosed by a silver pigeon claw with a gold manicure. It’s bladdy amazing and has a beautiful story behind its design 😍🐦🖤✨
