It is a beautiful gift to share rāranga with others. To see peoples hands connect with harakeke, their hearts fall in love with weaving, and their spirits awakened and stirred.
Weaving can be challenging and confronting at times. I offer a little advice at the start of a class... when you weave you find yourself. It's not just weaving. It's a journey, an ara (pathway). It's always interesting to see what arises. The words or self-talk uttered. The opening and closing of understanding, the sharing of stories, the emotions that flow, the centeredness, the calming... Rāranga connects us with harakeke (flax), with Papatuānuku (mother earth), with Ranginui (sky father), with nga Atua, with Io Matua. In these connections we find our self and our connectedness to all life on earth.
I am the maunga (mountain)
I am the awa (river)
I am the whenua (land)
I got a early morning text from my mete telling me they were nearly at my house. With pirau eyes and tragic hair I thought it best to change clothes and try act like I had been up for hours. When they pulled up, they bought me these beauties, #Tupākihi leaves. Some friends will bring cake, others, fizzy drinks (to make my kids nuts), but those who really know me, will turn up randomly with a car full of green stuff. Thank you so much 🤗, e kore rawa e mutu nga mihi kia korua mo enei taonga moku. #bestfriends#knowme#worktime#coldpressedoil#rongoa#maori#homemade#soapsbyroi . #nzbush#ngahere#aotearoa#onlyinnz

Blessed with the healing of beautiful kumarahou. 🍃
Before heading to Northland last month I sent out a call to this plant and when I arrived it was right there in front of me at my doorstep - literally!
And then it appeared every day as I walked through native bush, growing on the edges of pathways, unassuming, quietly growing in the ngahere, a beacon of light and love.
I'm looking forward to planting seeds and continuing my collaboration with kumarahou in the coming days 💚
Being in the forest in the ngahere is enough. Communing with the plants, listening, observing, loving. Realising guardianship of our environment is rongoa. Guardianship is herbal medicine. It is not just the leaf, preparation, commodity and ownership as a "healer". Our green friends nourish and nurture us but we must go further. Do not become stuck in "healing", we are here to fly 🕊
Quiet space with kawakawa on the coast and black sands of Piha Aotearoa 🍃 everywhere I turned my gaze I saw harakeke, kopakopa, cabbage tree, kawakawa, mamaku, whau & kowhai. Plant Medicine everywhere on our tiny island of gondwana aotearoa.
Contingency planning #onthespot#inthatmoment is what has provided the most #growth 💎
