The same spot on Blast Beach in 2009 and 2016. Much of the colliery spoil has now been eroded by the sea. Or washed somewhere further down the coast! #environmentalphotography #mining #rogercoulam #blastbeach #durham #pollution #documentaryphotography #marinepollution #environmental #anthropecene

Roger Coulam has spent 6 years investigating and being inspired by Blast Beach at Seaham, County Durham. You can learn more about his project on TPAR now.

I've mainly heard of Serge Gainsbourg from Beck speaking quite highly of his music. Apparently, this particular album was a large influence on him while making 'Sea Change'. This is an incredible record by any stretch of the imagination. It's basically Serge's most rock oriented record, but Serge's take on "rock" is as tweaked out as his take on pretty much everything in life. The sound is very weird, very sparse, very repetitive, but at the same time huge and massive. One of the greatest bass tones ever recorded and some of the craziest funky drumming ever. For those who don't speak french, such as myself, the music is reason enough to check out this album. The downside to that is you may miss out on the wicked wit of the lyrics (although, the lyrics are translated to english on this version with a booklet). Gainsbourg didn't so much have a way with words, He had HIS way with them. He was king of the double entendre and innuendo. It's a lecherous record, but lechery has never felt so good.
