As this week comes to a close I need some reminders of the existence of magic in the world. Thinking of the magical day I had in Greenwich being in two places at once while straddling the Prime Meridian could be enough to turn my mindset around, but I also got to lay eyes on the beautiful Cutty Sark that day. That name, mostly known to me by the copious amounts of blended scotch I have consumed with her namesake, belongs to this beautiful clipper ship that I have a bizarre romantic connection with. The Cutty Sark was named after a witch in a lovely old Scottish poem. The poem was written by the man who wrote Auld Lang Syne and who also happened to be a romantic and inspiration of socialist movements in Scotland. He is my soul mate, had I been born in the 1760s...(sigh). The Cutty Sark was one of the last tea clippers to be built in the world and is certainly the most beautiful ship I’ve ever seen. #magic#greenwich#cuttysark#clippership#noalbatrosstho#robertburns#thebardofayrshire#scottishromantic#poetryisforlovers#mypeeps#historyiscool#flashbackfriday#tgif#latergram#memoriesofhappythingsmakemehappy

⠀ BrewDog Punk IPA — шотландский бледно-золотой эль с богатым ароматным букетом из цветов, хмеля и цитрусов. 🏴 А так же содержит большой набор хмелей что делает пиво насыщенным вкусом и ароматом.
⠀ Наcладись качественным хмельным в Robert Burns Pub.

Literary walk in Central Park is worth taking for anyone who is craving for fresh oxygen.

The Mall, a quadruple row of American elms, is Central Park's most important horticultural feature, and one of the largest and last remaining stands of American Elm trees in North America.
The elms form a cathedral-like canopy above the Park's widest pedestrian pathway. and are one of the Parks most photographed features. The quarter-mile pedestrian path is the only intentional straight line inside the Park's walls.
Taking care of these trees is a full-time job for the Central Park Conservancy's tree crew. Each of the Park's thousands of trees are entered into a database, so they can be monitored by the Conservancy. The trees of Central Park have an important impact on the urban environment. They improve the quality of our air and water; reduce storm water runoff, flooding and erosion; and lower the air temperature in the summer. This is why Central Park is called the lungs of New York City.
The southern end of the Mall is known as Literary Walk. The statue of Christopher Columbus is the odd man out, since 4 of the 5 tributes here depict prominent writers. Nearby are Scottish poet Robert Burns and his compatriot, Scottish novelist Sir Walter Scott. A little farther north is Fitz-Greene Halleck, the first statue of an American to be placed in the Park. Ten years after his death, he was still so beloved that over 30,000 adoring fans came to the unveiling of his statue by President Rutherford B. Hayes and his entire cabinet. Today hardly anyone knows his poetry or his name, but everyone remembers their visit to the Mall.

Scotland’s Bard Robert Burns and the 14th century Persian poet Hafez seem as unlikely a literary pairing as Irvine Welsh and Charles Dickens. Not according to Talking Sheep Theatre who are performing a show based on the work of Burns and Hafez at the Nomads’ Tent this Sunday 19 August, 6.30-7.45pm. Intrigued to find out why? Then come along this Sunday and join us for a fascinating evening of two savant literary giants ‘Bards Apart’, they are the poets for the poets!
Tickets are still available £10 (£8 Student concessions)

Briar Rose ponders her new love, set to the poem A Red, Red Rose by Robert Burns.
Quick thoughts on Sleeping Beauty as a movie: Finally, a movie I really enjoy!
Sleeping Beauty unfortunately suffers from the same basic problem that Cinderella does, which is that the people who should be the protagonists (Phillip and Aurora) largely get lost in the shuffle.
So much time is devoted to the three fairies that they effectively become the main characters. However, I feel that this film has far more charm and other good things to make up for this, so I'm far more willing to be forgiving. Also, the time we do spend with Aurora is well spent, and Phillip gets some screentime and character. Both are charming and sweet, I just wish we could have spent more time with them and less with the lesser characters (Maleficent excluded)
Also, the villian is great; even the terrible Maleficent movie couldn't ruin her for me 😄 No offence to anyone who enjoys Maleficent, but honestly I've heard much better backstories for Maleficent than the movie provided us with. An interesting fan theory I like is that Queen Leah was barren and approached Maleficent for help conceiving. The price Maleficent asked was to be invited to the christening, treated with less disdain and more respect, and in some versions, she requested to be allowed to help choose her suitor. When these requests were not met, she appeared at the christening to curse the child instead. I like this theory because it sounds like the sort of thing that typically happens in fairy tales, and also meant Maleficent was taking Aurora away because she was never paid her rightful price. Interesting.
And she turns into a dragon! How cool is that?! #dttychallenge#princessaurora#disneyprincess#aurora#sleepingbeauty#briarrose#phillip#princephillip#redredrose#sleepingbeauty1959#sleepingbeautydisney#disneyartfans#disneyfanart#disney#disneyedits#disneyfanartshare#myedit#myedits#disney#disneycollage#rose#love#romance#beautiful#cute#art#pretty#artistsoninstagram#robertburns#princess
