So here’s a story about a #classroomtransformation gone wrong. On Halloween, I was transforming my classroom into a bat cave. I was putting up my very last bat when the block stool I was standing on moved forward and caused me to lose my balance and fall backwards. I landed on my elbow and that’s when I began to scream. I ended up doing what they called a terrible triad in which I dislocated my elbow along with shattering my radial head and coronoid bone. I was taken out of the school by ambulance and then driven to the closest trauma one hospital that had a surgeon who could repair my elbow- which was three hours away. I spent the next three days awaiting surgery. I was what they called stable so I kept getting bumped for other traumas. Meanwhile I have an allergy to all narcotics and was only taking Tylenol for two of those days until I was cleared to receive a nerve block to help with pain management. I finally received surgery on Saturday and was released from the hospital on Sunday. I have a huge cast and I’m still really weak. But I’m posting this picture because there was nothing going to stop me from #voting today. Not even my sickly appearance that everyone commented on when I walked into my #pollingstation . My ancestors fought for the #rightovote and I’m not going to let my broken arm stop me. My next mission is to get back to work and be with my kiddos. Because I miss them a lot! #teachersofinstagram#teachersfollowteachers#iteach#iteachtoo#teacher#iteachpreschool#iteachprek#preschoolteacher#prekteacher#sped#spedteacher#teacherlife#iteachspedtoo#classroomtransformationsgonewrong
Today was the first time in my ~12 years of voting (including for presidential elections) that I have had to wait to get into a polling booth!!! There wasn't much of a line (super small town) but there was actually enough people mid-day to fill the booths 💕🇺🇸
Beginning the theme of being thankful, I thought I’d share this with y’all this #tuesdaymorning and help others remember just how important it is to be grateful for everything and everyone in our lives and even for the #rightovote 😀😀
Don’t forget to vote today! In the words of the late Brent Taylor who had just witnessed the first parliamentary elections in Afghanistan in 8 years, “As the USA gets ready to vote in our own election next week, I hope everyone exercises their precious right to vote. And that whether the Republicans or the Democrats win, that we all remember that we have far more as Americans that unites us than divides us. ‘United we stand, divided we fall.’ God Bless America 🇺🇸.”
"The moment we begin to fear the opinions of others and hesitate to tell the truth that is in us, and from motives of policy are silent when we should speak, the divine floods of light and life no longer flow into our souls. Every truth we see is ours to give the world, not to keep for ourselves alone, for in so doing we cheat humanity out of their rights and check our own development." -Elizabeth Cady Stanton
Please join us for our craftivist meeting to create postcards to voters! I can knit anything but as you can see, my handwriting sucks! The only sticker he’ll wear. 👍🏻 When you have a kid, everywhere you travel people offer them stickers. His answer “I don’t like stickers, no thanks.” After the many years I‘ve engaged him in the political process: from discussions to the polls, he turns to me yesterday and says, “this is the only sticker I’ll wear!” #forthewin#votewater#vote#riverox#democracy#rightovote#privilege
