My heart hurts more than I ever thought possible.
How do you keep on breathing towards next spring?
I had written those lines two years ago after my beloved aunt had passed away.
I was shaken to the core, upset beyond all measures and did not know why to live on if life could be so cruel and unfair.
I did go on, I kept breathing and spring came and so did summer and what kind of a summer it has been - full of adventures, new experiences, time with family and new and old friends but also still an awful lot of crying and gut-wrenching pain and confusion. But with all that came, the acceptance that death belongs to life and that sorrow belongs to joy. I came to realize that even after tragedy hits you can keep on living your life, you actually have to and that you can enjoy yourself and be happy and also still feel a deep sadness inside for the loss of a loved one.
Life is never one or the other.
It's both. It's all. It's everything.
It will hurt and will feel great - sometimes at the exact same moment.
But we only got this one ride and being able to write this post, having grown up in a very safe country, having food on the table, being white, being educated, being reasonably healthy... is a huge privilege that I don't take for granted but that I want to use to make other people's lives better as well. Therefore realizing the importance of self-care and self-love (as icky as writing those words still makes me feel) was vital. Accepting that feeling emotionally and physically exhausted all the time, feeling empty, disoriented and numb, barely getting out of bed in the morning would not leave me with enough energy for taking care of others.
So I changed a lot of things in my life, my mind and my attitude - less complaining more gratefulness, time for meditation and simply walking and breathing, focusing on the positive not the negative, exercising a lot but also allowing to rest, changing my perception of other people, expecting them to be good, adjusting my diet and eating habits... everything worked towards me feeling better and with that gaining back my energy and now being able to spread it and to infect people around me with it.
