🎄12 days of Advent🎄

DAY 2 - February! 
I was going to post another Joel pic (especially when I saw it was last Feb he had COWS milk for the first time without an allergic reaction #mumwin)...but then I thought this picture was the perfect reminder of how important SELF-CARE is. 
Last night I had no more than 3-4hours of VERY broken sleep! A full on night of Nightmares for Joel and a broken heart for me 💔. I then worked a nearly 10 hour day, came home and put a tantruming toddler to bed, went out and did a food shop, came home and cooked tea and then SAT for this first time at 9.15 pm having been up since before 4am (I Think??)...I then felt guilty for all the things I could be doing instead of sitting on the sofa. Then felt guilty some more...And so the viscous circle begins. 
This picture made me realise that's it's ok to some days just take a break!! I wish my self care today looked like this...I currently am still wearing my work clothes watching Love Actually in a messy living room with my hand on my baby bump feeling kicks and suddenly, I realised...THAT is what is important. 
The little life inside me and getting enough rest to ensure a healthy pregnancy for both of us...so if a little self care is needed...SO BLOODY BE IT. 
Self Care doesn't need to be spa trips, pink gin and a good meal...it can just be time for you to rest.

Another busy, long but wonderful Tuesday in work in the bag. As always it brought a rest day for me 👌And this works best for me on my busiest work days as I'm distracted with no extra itch for a session 😂 Plus I can keep all my energy for the most important part of the day - my clients 😉 So home late and as always head first into a fat bowl 😋 Cacao Vanilla Cakey Casein Oats topped off with Greek Yogi, Fresh Berries 🍒 🍓 🍇 @hartleysireland Jelly 🍓 @cadburyireland Dairy Milk 🍫🥛 @lindoruk Milk Chocolate Truffle 🍫 Mixed Granola 🍒🌰🌱 Peanut Crunchers 🥜🍫 Mini Mallows 🍭 And some Choco Caramel Syrup 😋 Need some new Choco Syrup, I've tried loads and hav my favs but if anyone has some suggestions then send them on 🙏👌

Living with an auto-immune disease is challenging and learning to slow down and rest is vital to staying healthy. That’s the reality of my today: resting and allowing my body to recover. But what’s even more vital is my spiritual condition. I’m so thankful that even when I don’t quite feel up to par physically, true rest can always be found with Jesus. And I love that this time of year gives us such opportunity to slow down in the chaos and take time to rest & adore Him.

Thank you Publix for coming to my rescue and making today’s meal prep simple & quick! Pre-seasoned steak, pre chopped onions and peppers and 90 second brown rice. 
Definitely haven’t been feeling the greatest these last two days and I’ve basically been a couch potato trying to rest up. 
But I’m feeling a little better and I’m back to reality tomorrow #workinggirlproblems Hopefully my appetite will be back too because your girl misses food. Since I wasn’t really in “mood” to cook anything elaborate I threw together some steak fajitas for the next 3 days, in under 15 minutes might I add! #happymealprepping

Sometimes my day off looks like getting up early and getting all of my errands/cooking/cleaning done that I had planned out for the afternoon....and sometimes my day off looks like getting up early to pick up the groceries and then coming right back home to eat breakfast and lay on the couch for hours. Sometimes it looks like taking a nap at noon in hopes of catching up on the sleep that you rarely get at night when you actually need it. Sometimes it looks like not getting your cup of coffee or starting anything productive until 2oclock in the afternoon and you know what, THATS OKAY! 🤷🏼‍♀️

I am always such a planner. I hate not having an idea of what tomorrow is going to look like, and I realllllly hate when my day doesn’t go as I had planned. I get so down on myself when I don’t accomplish all of the things on my checklist because I deem myself as being lazy, and I have to remind myself that at 29 weeks pregnant my body can’t always match up to what my mind wants it to do. Sometimes it’s okay to take a day and get some overdue rest because Lord knows I won’t be getting much of that come February! 😅But really, have I mentioned how excited we are for our baby girl to be here?😍👶🏼🎀

I spent the morning at the ENT doctor, and my body decided that was enough functioning for the day 😂😷 Fatigue and exhaustion are so hard to explain to those who are well, because everyone gets tired but it's a constant struggle for some of us. My body feels like it has 200lbs extra that it's trying to carry around, so I decided to get back in bed and rest up and listen to my body!

Was soll.ich sagen, ich bin noch nicht wieder an Deck. Ich habe es auch echt genossen, mich zurückzuziehen. Ich bin sehr zufrieden mit dem Verlauf des Jahres. Sportlich, künstlich und in Bezug auf meine Arthrose habe ich das optimale heraus geholt. Was nicht heißt, dass ich jetzt fertig bin. Keinesfalls..!! Aber ich möchte es jetzt etwas ruhiger ausklingen lassen. Morgen bin ich wieder  für Dreharbeiten gebucht. Aber ich habe nicht alles diese Woche angenommen. Ach ja, die Pose ist für den  Orthopäden, der meinte, er könne mir nicht helfen, wenn ich mir nicht zwei neue Kniegelenke einbauen lasse. Und auch für die, die wissen, dass ich sie meine. Taking a restday today. I woke up feeling 93 👵. Restless sleep has left my body feel like I got hit by a bus. So deep stretching this morning 🧘‍♂️ . Seriously it felt like I pulled my entire life together and I honestly wonder why some runners or just people in general don't make this a regular part of their day 💁‍♀️.
My mood improved by at least 36%: 🤬 ➡️ 😒 Flexibility by 80% :📏➡️🥨
And chances of daydrinking and jail are minimal 🦇 💩 🤪 ➡️🦇💩🤪.

😏Compulsory Rest Day. Doctor's orders. I thought I could train at the gym after my followup with my orthopedic surgeon but today's treatment involved another 8 needles and syringes injected into a different part of my lower back, plus another 4 in my right foot. He specifically said no training but to take it easy. My poor gym bag felt all abandoned and unused in the car but it is important that I rest. Even though I felt instantly lighter from the sporadic pains after the mini op, I definitely felt much more of the needles today, given that the procedures were more complicated than the last one. 💝Thankful that I didn't train as I had lots to do, more errands, chores, wrapping, packing and the usual cooking to do, most of all, being home with GM and L. All these distracted me from feeling all restless and contorted from not being able to train for 2 consecutive days.

Soo this weekend I took 2 rest days because my body was telling me I needed a little break.😊 You guy's theres nothing wrong with rest days! They're good for you, it gives you time to relax and allows your muscles to recover and grow! You will NOT lose all your progress because of 1 or 2 rest days! If you feel like taking a rest day, then take it! If you feel hungry then fuel your body with healthy foods! Your muscles need food to grow..! Don't force yourself to workout each day if your body feels exhausted, don't starve yourself if you are hungry..you will only end up exhausted, and slowing down your progress..! Living a healthy lifestyle and seeing progress is all about BALANCE, and most importantly listening to your body! 💞

Today I am grateful that I have built a healthy relationship with food and exercising, and that I have learned to listen to my body!

SO as with every time of year, you may have seen from my story that I have developed a bit of the “man flu” and, while I know it will likely help to not train through it & only sleep 3hrs per night you know me, I’m not going to do that. Therefore, here are a few evidence based dietary strategies/foods that may help
➖
🍯Honey: Research has shown that a single night-time dose of honey can have a small effect on cough and sleep in young children (Paul et al 2007, Shadkam et al 2010). Therefore, the addition of this to foods such as oats or even to hot water may be beneficial
➖
🍲Chicken soups or broths have shown to contain a number of substances with beneficial medicinal activity and exert a mild anti-inflammatory effect thus aiding to reduce upper respiratory tract infections (Rennard et al 2000)
➖
🍊Vitamin C: Vitamin C has been shown to have a preventative effect for the common cold with studies showing athletes who supplement with Vitamin C to cut their risk of catching a cold in half (Douglas et al 2005) along with then reducing the DURATION of a cold (if acquired) by 8-14% (Anderson et al 1974, Hemilä & Chalker 2013). Therefore, including more foods high in Vitamin C such as any fruit and vegetable (yellow/red/orange in particular) may be beneficial
➖
🥩Zinc: There is a plethora of research showing zinc to have a protective effect against the common cold (Kurugöl et al 2006, Vakili et al 2008) thus including more foods high in zinc such as meats, shellfish, nuts/seeds & legumes may be beneficial
➖
🌶Spicy foods: Spicy foods contain a phytochemical called Capsaicin which can help in breaking up mucous & clearing your airways when/if congested (McCarty et al 2015)
➖
🍉Water/high water foods: Maintain hydration has shown to be beneficial for removing mucous & alleviating congestion (Miller 1991). Thus, apart from consuming water, foods such as watermelons, berries etc (+ soups) can be great for increasing water intake.
