I used to never intentionally allow my knee over the toes when training as the general consensus at the time was it wasn't good for your knees. This would have been sacrilege. My eyes were opened after my first FRS seminar a few years ago as well as the whole pain science movement. Since then, I incorporate much more resilience training into my daily movement. This involves taking my joints into a wider range of positions to increase variability and become more antifragile. My tissues will then be better at resisting injuries in these positions. It also gives me more movement options.
This certainly wouldn't be the starting point for most people as gradual stress is important, but we don't have to fear knees over the toes. Even when walking up and downstairs we do this with 3x bodyweight going through the knees. 
I'll keep challenging my current knowledge and biases. I certainly hope that in a few years time my training looks a little different either as a result of progress or new science or more likely a bit of both.

Sometimes when the alarm goes off at 5:45am and it’s still dark and slightly grim looking outside and when you’re cold just stood waiting for your train, even in your puffer jacket, you do think maybe getting into an unheated lido (where the water temperature is just 10 degrees) may not be such a good idea; but you make yourself go, you get in, it’s so cold that the water takes your breath away but by half a length in you no longer feel the pain of the cold, and by length 2 the icy water feels like your friend. All your sleepiness, grogginess and sadness seem to be taken away by the water, so much so that you don’t even want to get out, but you do and the hot shower afterwards feels like heaven.
For everyone else they just get up to a miserable day and don’t even appreciate their shower! So to all those who ask ‘why the hell do you do it Faye?’ my answer is that my morning swim builds discipline, makes me think clearer, makes me happier and feel alive and also makes me appreciate the little pleasures in life— like how good a hot shower can feel! #lido #outdoorswimming #resiliencetraining #swim 😊 😊

I'm clear, thanks to various views (@Jordan.b.Peterson) that I want to guide my children to be resilient as opposed to  protecting them from the world.

When I want to high-tail it back to the safety of my comfort zone, I'm learning to instead lean into uncomfortable situations and the resulting emotions that show up 😅 Acknowledging whatever is happening, being gently curious, and mindfully holding space and awareness while sitting with whatever feelings come (especially the ugly ones)..."oh hey fear, whatchya doing here? what are you telling me?" instead of "gtfo before I suppress/numb you into submission" 💩 Little by little I'm letting go of that frantic striving impulse for instant resolution to struggle, and increasing my uncertainty tolerance by accepting that it's necessary to wobble awkwardly and sometimes uncomfortably through the learning process. .

Collaboration highlight: Last month Dr. Podini and I hosted a DNA CE Training at the Oregon State Police- Portland Lab. The challenge was to combine training in massively parallel sequencing technology with human factors. We met throughout the year to hone the outline, prepare material, and plan interactive games and discussion. 
With his research/teaching background and my lab application background we made a good team. Overall comments were that I was highly organized and thought-provoking and Podini was very passionate and enthusiastic- which we all know! You never know what you can create when you put heads together. Had the privilege of helping @michaelbarber_artist_  be prepared and sharpen his takedown/submission defences for his fight against a very tough Kane Jones at @hexfs 17. Just being the support of veteran fighters from @resiliencetrainingofficial was a humbling experience I am grateful to have had. Mike never needed to use his 1 stripe white belt ground skills 😆 because his striking and takedown defence was too much for his opponent. I am a big fan and thankful for the opportunity to strengthen, support and walk beside this warrior into the arena.

Curiosity can be an antidote to judging. Ask a million gentle questions. Especially to people who think differently than you. Especially to yourself. Especially when its scary. My personal fave is simply "why??"❓❓❓❓❓ which goes surprisingly far if I'm willing to honestly follow it with an open mind. It can poke holes in things that used to feel so stable and certain 🕳️ which is super inconvenient and often throws things into chaos; but, its also so so worth it for the eventual aHA! moment and a deeper, more nuanced understanding 💥🤯💥. So lean into wonder, open up the conversation, and don't be afraid to respectfully start some shit 💩 It's one of the best ways to purge the old junk and find better ways of being 🙏

Resilient people don’t just recover from tragedy, they become wiser, stronger people because of the tragedy. Resilience isn’t a permanent personality characteristic..it can come and go, and it can be learned. Resilience requires stress to develop...no stressors does not equal more resilience...

One of the main things I did to recover was keep gratitude journals. I suppose to some this seems silly...but if you are in need of some resilience training ...use the month of November to list one thing you are grateful for every day...you know...that annoying thing some people do on social media...do it publicly or privately...your choice..just do it. It’s about focusing on the positive and making your brain work on positive pathway building. .....

And remember..Some of us who have the worst stories are the most resilient ...and we are resilient because of our stories ..not in spite of them.

When my almost 4 year old daughter has nightmares and tells me about them.. I tell her that she is in control of her brain, that she is the boss..and the next nightmare she has...I tell her to tell her brain that she is going to beat up the monster and then picture doing it...

Two months  ago a fire truck came to her school and she was terrified..she started crying because she thought it was scary. The director of the school was even worried about how much it scared her. My daughter and I discussed it and after weeks of thinking about how firemen help people ...she said she wanted to be a fireman ... a fireFIGHTER for Halloween. (Completely unprompted by me) And here she is...holding Wonder Woman in her hand....

Flying out today. Thinking of the amazing journey I've had along the way. Filled with mistakes and lessons. Today represents the final steps to getting back into the USA and leaving my colorful past in my past. Everything happens to you for a reason in this life. The victim mentality I had before never served me. I realise now it all has made me stronger. Accepting full responsibility for my past and current actions. They made me who I am. A man dedicated to raising the conciousness of our earth, of all beings, coming from a place of love, connection, self love and expression, creation and much more. What I can be counted on for is to always be a stand for all beings in our universe to live an existence of fulfillment, connection and harmony.

Be proud of the past that made you who you are. Once the lessons are learned and embraced, your transformation to the next level of conciousness better serves you and everyone around you. Live in your skin. There is no greater gift to your exsistence.... than you.
