Do you cross your fingers in hope and anticipation? Does it do any good for you? What other superstitions do you have? Perhaps a sports-oriented one that you will never let die?
Superstitions don't die. They adapt to contemporary fears. We've been told that foreskin is dangerous and will cause problems if its not removed. The idea has become so ingrained into our psyche that we get the circumcision superstition. Today's moms and dads are learning and eagerly dispelling myth.

MOTHERS OF SONS: please educate yourself prior to deciding to modify your child.. I'm not trying to shame any parent by any means. This is meant to be an educational post. Foreskin is meant to PROTECT babys penis from bacteria. DO NOT FORCIBLE RETRACT FORESKIN!! There is no need to. Foreskin naturally "detaches" as baby grows. There is no need to retract the foreskin to check the urethra; foreskin PROTECTS the urethra, much like the labia does for the vagina. The US is one of the ONLY countries that advocate for circumcision, why? There is no medical need for it, merely personal preference. (Why most insurances do not cover circumcision) I personally believe circumsicison is child abuse, I believe in HUMAN rights & CHILD rights. I believe circumsicison is teaching males to be ashamed of their bodies, that something is "wrong" with them, when that isnt true at all. Circumcision mostly started as a religious ritual. I am not religious & will never understand that reasoning.. AGAIN IM NOT SHAMING ANYONE I'm turning the comments off to this post, as I dont want to argue, this is MY PERSONAL BELIEF & OPINION!! All I ask is for parents to read pros & cons for circumcision before deciding
Prior to actually becoming pregnant I didnt know why most parents chose to circumcise while other parents didnt until I did my own research. .
Men in European nations have more foreskin, yet they have fewer UTIs, fewer STIs (including HIV/AIDS), and less penile cancer than men in the United States.

A poster presentation at the Societies for Pediatric Urology 66th Annual Conference, held May 18-20, 2018, featured a review of a regional claims database by researchers at the University of Utah School of Medicine Division of Urology. The researchers estimated that the rate of circumcision complications found within 2 years of circumcision would be between 1% and 5%, similar to the rates on which the AAP based their 2012 Policy on Circumcision. The rate they calculated was significantly higher at 11.5%.
The pic and all text below is from the @intactutah Facebook post. Their words were perfect. ♡ "The penis and clitoris are analogous and homologous organs: they perform similar functions, share a common design, and biologically develop from the same tissues inutero. The glans (head) of the penis or clitoris is an internal organ. It is meant to remain covered for the majority of its livelihood, in similar nature to the way that the eyeballs are covered for a good portion of our lives (when we blink or sleep), and the way the ends of our fingers and toes are protected by our nails. "If we surgically amputate the eyelids or fingernails, we will face the repercussions of making an organ that was designed to be internal, external. In order to survive this damage, the organ must adapt. To do so, a variety of features will change (both immediately, and progressively over the years): pH will be altered, temperature will no longer remain stable in that organ, moisture and lubrication levels will not be maintained, leading to dryness and potential chapping, antibodies and healthy microflora that previously served to protect will cease to exist, and callusing (the build-up of multiple hardened layers of skin) will take place. Our body may attempt to heal itself by forming skin bridges or re-adhesions over the amputation site. Our eyeballs and fingertips would become thick, dry, discolored, and no longer function in the manner they were designed to. "So it is the same with the glans of the penis or clitoris. If we remove the very organ, the prepuce, which serves to cover, protect and regulate the health, pH, temperature, lubrication, antibodies, movement and functioning of the genitals, we've altered form so dramatically that the purposes it was created to fulfill can no longer be realized." -Danelle Day, PhD
