🍃I come from a lineage of Strong, Independent & Humble women.
I remember my great-grandmother, who had 14 children and somehow always had enough to feed them all. I remember her picking up soda cans and selling them, and somehow having thousands of dollars saved in an empty coffee can that nobody knew where it was hidden.
I remember both of my grandmother’s; one of them migrated from one island to another to hustle, later brought her children, & eventually had her own businesses, one of them was sewing, while the other one was a caregiver and a nurse by experience. I remember the last one telling me she never went to college for it, but was so passionate about nursing that she would just go to the hospital and observe, take initiative and offer her assistance, and eventually she became part of the staff there. I remember seeing her pictures with her nurse outfit and her afro.
I remember strength, independence and compassion when thinking about their memories. I remember them taking care of themselves and others.
Then there was my mother, who advocated and worked hard, along with my dad, to give myself and my siblings a great education. My mother, who also build a business in the 90’s & would hand made the most beautiful girl hair bows and sell them in bulk to local high-end boutiques. I remember her working at home in her dining room table, while also taking care of us playing and running around, and not being enough for the amount of merchandise she needed to put out for sale, as the demand was so high.
What all of them have in common is that they were determined, went after what they wanted, they worked hard & had their own. They created their own. I think that’s one of the most valuable lessons they ever taught me, without having said a word.
Here I am now, proud of what my daughter is watching.

A year difference🌞🌞 @jannelleoshaughnessy started this theme of seeing where we were a year ago versus today. The first set of pics are from last year when I was the coordinator of a hair salon. My hair would get blown out at least once a week because I thought it just looked better. Plus we were experimenting with all different types of fashion colors. I had no clue all the damage that was being done to my hair and curls consistently. Second picture is of my most recent hair days on the month of August. I have not straightened my hair since November and I have learned so much from all my fellow curly people. I’m grateful that I had the opportunity to play with my hair color and look last year but I’m loving the journey (with all the ups and downs) my curls have had me on. If for nothing else I’m grateful to have connected with so many wonderful good hearted people. #jannellesgotmycurls#powerdomi#curlicuelu#curljourney#instacurly#curlycrew#mapmethod#cultivateyourcurls#curlygirlmethod#redcurls#fashioncolorhair#chroniccurlycommunity
Today’s clarifying, deep conditioning day. I make sure to do this once a week. That’s why I use safe gentle cleansers for clarifying. I rotate between @officialkinkycurly Come Clean and @bouncecurl Clarifying Cleanser. I tend to gravitate towards Come Clean because it never lets me down, and it was what I used today. I applied the @raw_kyn Red all over, finger coiled and used my @thermalhaircare cap for about 45 minutes. Rinsed everything out with cold water upside down. For styling today I used some tips @powerdomi shared in her IGTV video. Go watch them, she is so thorough in her explaining and a joy to watch. I sealed everything into my hair using @naturallyunitedcurls_ Cake Batter leave in (duh moment, it’s my go to 😂). I wanted my styling to be simple so I used 2 products only; @natures_little_secret Flaxseed Gel and @jessicurl Spiralicious. Diffused my hair til 100% dry and clipped my roots for volume. I was actually really happy with some of the more defined curls from this wash. I think that’s due to some of the techniques I used from Dom’s video and combined with my MAP method. It was insanely hot today in FL so things got super fluffy by the late evening. Wondering if that was because I needed my cream (which I normally use as well) or if it’s something else. Oh well up in Medusa clipping ala @reallifecurlygirl for sleep and I’ll see what happens tomorrow. #chroniccurlycommunity#instacurly#curls#curlycrew#redcurls#redhead#hennacolorlab#mapmethod#cultivateyourcurls#cakebatterleavein#spiralicious#imperfectcurls#imperfectlyperfect#jannellesgotmycurls#curlicuelu#powerdomi#clarifyday#curljourney
