Smoke from wildfires here in the San Francisco Bay Area makes for some pretty sunsets.
No updates in a while because I’ve been busy with trip planning, bike building and other stuff. Here’s a sneak peak at a solar roof idea I’m working on. It’s still a work in progress but the first few test rides have been promising. The idea is to have a small solar roof over my head for protection from the sun and rain. The rest of the solar panels will still go on the trailer. The roof can stay flat to minimize aerodynamic drag and cross winds or tilt a little bit while riding or tilt a lot when parked for optimal stationary charging.
🚴🏻♀️🏋🏼♀️ Smashed out a 2 hour recumbent bike workout, burned 1000 calories in one go. I usually only do 1 hour on my bike and roughly 1 hour of my other exercises, weights, steps, battle ropes, squats etc but I wasn’t feeling motivated today so I did 2 hours on my bike instead which I’m still proud of. I used to be hard on myself if I missed a certain workout that I usually do every day but I find avoiding it and replacing it with something else for one day is better than doing it and hating it and not wanting to do it the next day. Doesn’t hurt to take a break for a day but it might hurt not to. Do what works best for you day by day and it’ll benefit you better in the long run. If I did my weights today I would have struggled and not completed the whole list of stuff or I would have half assed it, but at least this way I’ve still burned my calories, I enjoyed it and I’ve given my body a much needed break for the day. Tomorrow is a new day :) #recumbentbike#1200caloriediet#weighttrain#exercisedaily#healthylifestyle#exercise#exerciseroutine#exerciseathome#1000calories#diet#workout#workoutroutine#workoutoftheday
LIIFT4 with arms and shoulders wiped me out. Than I added some #recumbentbike cardio just for fun. It never gets easier as I go through my #fitguyonajourney#fitgrandpaonajourney but I am faster in my riding and running. Motivation will almost always beat mere talent. I am not natural runner or weightlifter but I keep learning. I remember a few people over the years who believed in me. I am saying a FEW. Surround yourself with people who believe in your dreams, encourage your ideas, support your ambitions, and bring out the best in you. I made up my mind the older I get to come alongside people and let them know I BELIEVE IN THEM. There is nothing more empowering to know that someone does and someone is in your corner. I know all to well what it means to be thrown under the bus by people I thought had my back. Maybe you have experienced that too? Instead of getting angry at life. Why not choose not to be that kinda person and get behind others you know and be their cheering section. #shoulderworkout#armworkout#thursdaymotivation

NovemBURN Day 12: I cardio'd today! Truthfully, I took it easier than I have the last few times. I don't need to kill myself for being sick these past few days. I also have leg day at the gym tomorrow, so I don't need to be sore, either. Just exercised. Stayed at tension setting 5, but kept my speed around 4.5 mph. Broke a light sweat, and finished listening to the podcast I got started on the way home (shout out to @missedinhistory for the commute and workout history-tainment). And... is it just me or is my hair really trying for the Gibson Girl look, here? It's not long enough to puff it into one of those fabulous do's, but this front puff would make Elaine from "Seinfeld" mad 90's jealous. 🤣 All I did was use some dry shampoo this morning. "Stellaaaaaaah...!" *cue terrible drunk white-girl dancing*
A big day for me today... after my first post-op solo flight yesterday, I started a new job today!
I’m incredibly proud that, despite the physical challenges I’ve encountered since my accident in April, I have not missed a beat with work. Being able to not lose myself while dealing with my injury, surgeries and recovery has been really important for my mental health.
I booked my travel to my new office last minute, so I didn’t have my pick of gyms. I was nervous about maintaining the momentum with my recovery while trying to impress at my new job. With nothing other than the yoga mat, stim and therabands I brought in my bag, I was a bit worried. But today I made a huge breakthrough... my first full rotations on the stationary bike!
You’ll notice I’m going backwards; oddly, this is easier than forwards, which I haven’t quite managed yet. But, this is a huge improvement, with a new tool now where I can work on both strength and range.
I’m going to try and post each day this week to showcase rehab that is possible on a tight schedule in a crappy hotel gym. You’ve got to make it work!
