#myiranianweek includes Dalia, Parnaz, Goli, Sara, Négar and Zoya. Here we have Parnaz Foroutan. #thegirlfromthegarden is essentially a #beautiful and pristine book. Most of the books this week set in #iran are bound by history and external events. #foroutan decides to give her story a more intimate and personal angle. Her scope is more private and inward. I had the feeling that most characters are either whispering to each other or consumed with #internalmonologues which you get to psychoanalyze. Because the story is framed from the memories and recollections of the family's #descendant living in #losangeles , there is a palpable desire to express and emphasize past feelings and ethereal impressions instead of facts and actual events. You need to keep that in mind. Because very different from Dalia Sofer yesterday, #parnazforoutan wants you to sense and to experience instead of to rationally understand anything. The emphasis here is on the heavy weight of that which was left unsaid despite of how powerfully it was endured. It's clearly a #recommended book. Albeit a read which didn't feel as complete as others in my #iranianliterature voyage. #ecco#kermanshah#iranianjewish#persianjewish#fairytale#emotionaljourney#debutnovel#heir#کرمانشاه

This book! I have SO MUCH to say about this book. First off, know this: you can’t put it down. It sucks you in, not even appearing as a #thriller until you’ve invested way too much of yourself into it. The entire time I was #reading , I kept thinking to myself how desperately I wanted to see it made into amovie, if only so that I could see the house described in the book - One Folger Street - depicted on screen. The house! It’s an entire character, a leading protagonist in the tale, so intriguingly described, and anyone interested in #SmartHome technology (hi @taherafridi) should read this because it will put anything #Alexa , #Nest et al can do to shame. Admittedly, there’s a nasty, unwelcome touch of #FiftyShadesOfGrey midway through the #story which I found off-putting and even a little forced, but not enough to change my opinion: this is a good #book , and not especially predictable. Apparently, it’s already being made into a film (CANT WAIT!) and now I want to read everything by #JPDelaney , who also happens to be #TonyStrong , who also happens to be #AnthonyCapella . When you need that many #pseudonyms for all your different genres, your talent must be limitless. Definitely recommending this one! Plus it’s a fast read, I finished it less than an hour ago and started it last night, and I didn’t even read all day or anything like that, it’s just a quick one, so bonus. #bookworm#bookrecommendation#recommended#bookstagram#books#reader#goodread#TheGirlBefore
