Its almost the end of 2018, and its been another fantastic year. This year I’ve worked with just over 100 different athletes who all play various sports. But I want to mention this specific detail, out of those 100 athletes, only 25% were females. How can this be?
This question has boggled my mind since the first year I started working in this industry. Now don’t get me wrong, the girls who I have had the pleasure of working with have all done a MAGNIFICENT JOB. They can squat, hinge, push and pull. They can also be mixed into a co ed group and totally hold their own! There are girls out there who naturally take an interest in the weight room.
But I’m out looking for a deeper answer into why there aren’t more Female athletes who are getting enrolled into a strength and conditioning program? Each sport requires the same athletic capabilities. You need to have mobility, you need to be able to produce power, and be agile. All sports require these components to a certain extent. So if we have male athletes here training in order to accomplish these goals for their sport, why aren’t more female athletes doing the same thing?
Are you a volleyball player with sore shoulders? Don’t let this be the norm! Learn how to build multidirectional strength and stability for the shoulder in order to prevent injuries.
Lets promise in 2019 as parents, coaches, trainers, and friends to support our female athletes and educate them on the importance of training.
