This book! So many feels and felt like a personal therapy session in the best way possible. Thanks @elyssafriedland for putting this out into the world! Head on over to my goodreads for my full 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 review.
🇵🇭I am leaving for the Philippines in two weeks! Naturally, I'm preparing a booklist! This is my first time traveling internationally and it is extra special because it is to the country my wife is from! 💜Needless to say I'm going extra with the books if that's possible.
I have some great Filipino novels and history books, but this book is by far the one I'm most eager to get my hands on.
America is Not The Heart takes on issues of history, culture, and identity in an exciting and insightful way. This novel centers three generations of Filipino women from the same family living in CA, USA in the 90's. With colonization being a prevailing theme in Filipino history and literature, there are a lot of complexities to the Filipino American experience. I love that this book highlights these through multiple generations.
This book is also a debut novel! So check it out! Let's support diverse books and the writers who bring these much needed stories to the forefront.
Sidenote* yes I get back on a Sunday and yes I start school on Monday 😳☕️😂
STAMPED FROM THE BEGINNING is a book that has taught me more about American history than anything else. I hope it’s read widely and taught in public schools. It has changed my perception entirely on how racist ideas spread and become institutionalized in society. I’m reading it slowly, absorbing what I can, underlining and taking notes. It’s a text that I know I will refer back to again and again. I’m currently reading about the 1936 Summer Olympics, and the parallels between the racist laws & ideas of Nazi Germany and Jim Crow America. It’s terrifying how many modern day parallels come to mind as I’m reading.

Hello and welcome new followers!!!!!!☺😁 I wanted to take the time and say thank you all for following. You guys really mean a lot to me. I love books and having a place where I can share my love with others is amazing!😀 It is what keeps me motivated to keep reading because I am more than sure I would have stopped a LONG time ago if it weren't for this. Anyways sorry for the longish post, I just wanted to thank you all💙💛
Floating bookstore in Venice. It does not literally float but all the books are placed inside of bathtubs and gondolas, in a way that if the store fills with water the books will be saved. It is considered one of the most interesting bookstores in the world. It is worth the visit but all books are used and in Italian. #read#readmorebooks#books#bookstore#venice#italy#love
Who’s ready for a group read!!?!
@allisonreadsdc and I are organizing a group read of Evicted by Matthew Desmond in August. Join in!
Evicted has been on my TBR forever, so I am really excited to finally have the gentle push I need to pick it up.
A lot of bookstagrammers have messaged me to say how powerful, upsetting and educating it is. I know it’s going to lead to a fascinating discussion.
Interested in joining in?! Let me know and we’ll add you to the group chat. It’s going to be a laid back, go at your own pace read-a-long. All you have to do is read Evicted during August (or before if you’re an overachiever 🌟) and we’ll set a date for group discussion at the end of the month. Hope you join in!
I’m looking forward to diving into this Pulitzer Prize winning nonfiction. 🖤 #EvictedAugust .
Breaking from my color scheme because I’m at my parents’ house this week & I forgot my white blanket. 😂 But y’all. You know a memoir is going to be good when you laugh out loud twice in the foreword. I can’t wait to dive in!
Do you like books about books? I’m a sucker for a good literary memoir these days. Let me know which ones you’ve loved!
Sometimes it’s quite difficult to choose what to read next. I own 53 books I have yet to read! So, I’ve chosen a few from the stacks of unread, and then I usually read the one with the best first sentence... trouble is, sometimes they all have intriguing starts, so what am I in the mood for?
Here are the first sentences from my small stack of TBR books... which would you choose?
I’m gravitating towards MORVERN CALLAR because of that distinctly dramatic first line. (First lines are in same order as books, top to bottom.) The book was also lent to me from a neighbor, so I feel the need to read & return as quickly as possible...
I’m cutting it close for this week’s #tmlsummerjam theme, but made it just in time wooooot!! Honestly, this picture was a whack of hilarity to put together, and major shout-out to my husband for helping with his killer ice cream scooping skills and sparkler lighting talents. Because who doesn’t want a huge bowl chocolate and vanilla ice cream with one of TML’s most deliciously scented candles? (Omg I’m laughing my face off right now at my ridiculousness 😂 Bless Marc for not blinking twice when I said, “No not *beside* the ice cream, I want to put the candle IN the ice cream.”)
Bookish relaxation (and candles) at the beach are up next and it’s a beauuuuuuuutifil day to hit up the water, so my next pic will come a little sooner. There are sweet prizes each week, and a whopper of a grand prize, so make sure you join the party!! Plus, you know, photographing bookish candles is a solid way to spend your free time. 👌🏼📚🕯
Anyone else feeling justified in their book purchases now?😉😀 There's always a reason to get a new book! Vote for your favorite American Novel now at Your Local Library in Charlotte and the surrounding counties or at #ParkRoadBooks . #PBSCharlotte#GreatReadPBS#ReadMoreBooks
❤️Like si tu as lu ce livre

↬ qotd: Which character do you relate to most via skills, passions or experiences?
WEEKEND! I’ll be busy at some family events & a bridal shower for my girl @diabetic_mermaid✨ 👰🏻 and a date night after yayyyy
I relate to a lot of the artists in books as I studied fine arts in school and got my degree in Visual arts & Design. So, I can relate to Feyre, Carou and Talia. Anything art related, that’s me 🙃

In Charting Stars by @whimsicalillustration the main character Talia finds herself in another realm when she accidentally paints a portal. I loved how fun and enchanting the graphic novel was 😊 Plus she’s a Canadian illustrator and author! Go get your copy now!
Saturday!!! It’s tax free weekend here in Bama so I’m trying to decide if I should be good or if I should go buy what I want! ———————————————
This gorgeous print is from @reverieandink. I love all her stuff. Check out her Etsy shop when she is back from vacation!
I’m also trying to slip in some pool time (which is my whole life story) so I can read my book!
#QOTD What is everyone reading this weekend?
Lying outside Burger King at Kashnere Gate metro station, is this copy of "Leah on the Off Beat". Did you find it? 💚
In this sequel to the acclaimed Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda—now a major motion picture, Love, Simon—we follow Simon’s BFF Leah as she grapples with changing friendships, first love, and senior year angst.
When it comes to drumming, Leah Burke is usually on beat—but real life isn’t always so rhythmic.
She’s an anomaly in her friend group: the only child of a young, single mom, and her life is decidedly less privileged. She loves to draw but is too self-conscious to show it. And even though her mom knows she’s bisexual, she hasn’t mustered the courage to tell her friends—not even her openly gay BFF, Simon.
So Leah really doesn’t know what to do when her rock-solid friend group starts to fracture in unexpected ways. With prom and college on the horizon, tensions are running high.
It’s hard for Leah to strike the right note while the people she loves are fighting—especially when she realizes she might love one of them more than she ever intended.
Last weekend, my husband and I purchased an espresso machine and it is by far and away the best idea we have had since we got married. Starbucks who?! 🙌🏻💕 Anyway... I’m having the bittersweet feeling of coming to the end of a series as I pick up to final book in the Crazy Rich Asians trilogy this weekend. I LOVED the first book, wasn’t as big of a fan of the second, but I’m told that the third is potentially the best of the series! I’m so ready for it and to see the movie ASAP!
Question for you guys today: Do you guys have any tips for creating the perfect reading environment? Do you light candles? Listen to music? I’m looking for some new ideas other than just sitting in bed and lounging... Help me think of some new things to try! 💕
I know a lot of people that have used this phrase “LIVE YOUR BEST LIFE” but never have the time to do so because they are stuck at work for more than 30 years of their lives. How can one live their best life living at work? Work does not define who you are as a person, work should not control your life and or your dreams. Why stick to one source of income when there are plenty of opportunities to have more than just one? Find your solution out of your struggle and I am here to help you the same way that I helped myself. We are told to go to school and get a job, we are taught to be an employee by working under someone else but we are never taught to go to school to learn how to create a business and to be your own boss. Never stop reading and never stop searching for opportunities. #liveyourbestlifenow#learntobeyourownboss#generatepassiveincome#readmorebooks#educateyourselfbeyondtheclassroom#findawayoutofyourstruggle#youmatter#workfromhome#taughttobeemployees#lifeistooshort
