What are you READING this summer? Here is me in my natural element: no eye makeup, messy braids, pajamas, and a book 😉. I am not teaching, so let the summer reading commence! Right now I am re-reading (third time) one of my hermana-poet’s books #confessionsofafirework by one-half of @chingonafire @angelaloves (Angela Aguirre)— she has writing prompts that I’m gonna try as well this time. Also, author and curator Dan Lopez is heading-up this incredible book group in Spanish this summer in LA at The Last Bookstore. Dan is a gifted writer and producer of many events in LA, most notably Lambda LitFest LA— it is never too late to practica su español (as my Tita used to really say) as well as read works in the language they were written. $30 gets you the book, snacks, and all the extras to have an awesome book group. Did you know? Studies say reading just 15 minutes per day for pleasure (an actual book) can: decrease anxiety by up to 30%; increase brain activity by 25%; and increase overall well-being by up to 50% in adults over the age of 25– so take your medicine, gente! And take advantage of this! You can purchase Angela’s book online and at fine book sellers! You can sign-up for the Ficcíon en Español group through eventbrite! #LA#reads#readingisgoodforyou#poetry#fiction#español#wocwriters#thelastbookstore#books#independentauthors#latinxauthors
Getting in some motivational reading to start my day. 🤣❤️
I haven’t been posting much lately but I’m still reading a book each month! Here’s April’s read, Shoe Dog by Phil Knight 👟🧡🏃🏻♀️ .
As an entrepreneurial minded person, learning the story behind Nike was incredibly inspiring & motivational. I could say so much about what I took away from it, but I’ll let Phil’s words sum it up: “God, how I wish I could relive the whole thing. Short of that, I’d like to share the experience, the ups and downs, so that some young man or woman, somewhere, going through the same trials and ordeals, might be inspired or comforted. Or warned. Some young entrepreneur, maybe, some athlete or painter or novelist, might press on. It’s all the same drive. The same dream. It would be nice to help them avoid the typical discouragements. I’d tell them to hit pause, think long and hard about how they want to spend their time, and with whom they want to spend it for the next forty years. I’d tell men and women in their midtwenties not to settle for a job or a profession or even a career. Seek a calling. Even if you don’t know what that means, seek it. If you’re following your calling, the fatigue will be easier to bear, the disappointments will be fuel, the highs will be like nothing you’ve ever felt....Put it this way. The harder you work, the better your Tao....Have faith in yourself, but also have faith in faith. Not faith as others define it. Faith as you define it. Faith as faith defines itself in your heart.” Thank you, Phil! And cheers to crazy ideas!🥇
It took me a long time to read this book and I am not sure it was very helpful while I was internet dating... It is dense and the news is not good: historically women are worse off when they marry and even more so if they divorce. On the upside, we have never been happier, healthier or had more choice than in this time. This is good! A single page of the conclusion confirmed three things I’ve observed or believed to be true, which is reassuring. It was a difficult and enlightening read and I’m happy to lend it out so message me if you’re interested. Long live love!
Audrey found this bookmark in an old book of mine recently - it makes me smile every time I look at it. Some of my favorite details: The "a" and "t" necklaces on the zebras, the "Funny Story" title on the book, the "Daddy" and "Eric" birds, and of course her assertion that I'm the BEST mom ever. ❤️❤️❤️ #wearewinners#shesstillmyfavoriteartist#readingisgoodforyou
2018 Books 18 and 19: Ian McEwan’s “The Child in Time” and a rediscovered favorite: “A Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23” by W. Phillip Keller.
Heavy reading but both address hope in different ways.
Meet the maker challenge day 26 (yep I'm doubling down today on the posts😁) Books! Podcasts and Blogs is the theme today! 📚
First pic is my summer reading line up! Which includes Passage to India, (classic) Changes in Lattitudes (lady smut reading) The Mood Cure (diet and mind connection) The Organized Mind (focusing on staying the course IRL amidst the digital overload of our times) Be Here Now (classic reading new age) The Psilocybin Mushroom Bible (current projects reading) and Bunny Mellon (Times bestseller pick)📚✨
Second pic is one of my favorite podcast libraries Third Coast Festival if you've never third coasted your not even podcasting 😁
Lastly I listen to alot of the Joe Rogan Experience, because it's amazing and hilarious. Not big into blogs ....find them a bit outdated. 🤷♀️✨🎁💕
