Last week Shaft issued the party a warning in the form of brain leeches, which resulted in the Temple being blowing up. Tabby moved all of the Barovians who survived to Faerun and set up a new Temple on her family’s property; which had been destroyed a couple days ago by Shaft, leaving Tabby as the presiding Lady Lennox. Tilea found Syn’s twin sister and the two vanished together. Sachi beseeched Mask for help, and he- through Grant’s ghost- gave the group three daggers that could kill the leeches. The group went to aid Strahd in locking down Ravenloft to keep the leeches out and were sent to the sewers. Scritch planted magic beans and produced a group of shriekers, which Tilea decided to get rid of by using her fire breath... blowing up Ravenloft completely. They left Strahd on the moon and went to hunt the leeches. This week they test their leech killing weapons, make a major mistake, and concoct a risky plan; Tabby learns of a family secret with catastrophic consequences. #DnD#5e#DungeonsandDragons#DnD5e#rpg#SunDnDay#CurseofStrahd#Ravenloft#Strahd#Barovia#Faerun#ForgottenRealms https://buff.ly/2GdVvjP

My Curse of Strahd group continues to astound me!
Last session they made their way towards Vallaki, with Ireena in tow, when they spied an old windmill on a nearby hill.
Two of their companions had remained with the Vistani at Tser Pools, and having been warned away from the windmill, they were leery about approaching it. Eventually the ranger convinced them to go for a look, and they were greeted by a pair of terribly ugly women who attempted to sell them some baked goods. Their mother was away on a shopping trip, and they cackled when the adventurers produced the deed to the windmill, and attempted to claim ownership. The hideous women shooed them away and told them to take it up with the lord of the land. Perhaps he would listen to their plea!
Somewhat disheartened the players turned away and were going to resume their trip to Vallaki. However the ranger spotted a sorrow of ravens flocking nearby and chose to investigate. They discovered the standing stones, a small pile of childrens teeth left as an offering, and using a spell the Paladin questioned a raven, the same raven who ad desperatly tried to drive the adventurers away from the windmill.
Upon learning the true nature of the hags, the rode back to the windmill, kicked in the door, and brought all the fire, fury, and savage vengeance they could muster. Literally butchering the evil creatures! They rescued the children, mounted up, and did a slow-motion ride off into the sunset, with “Old Bonegrinder” being consumed in a blazing fire behind them.
They have now made it to Vallaki, after encountering an old woman pushing a traders cart on the road...also trying to sell pastries... *If you comment, no spoilers please....some of my players read this page!*
I have been a fan of the #DarkSun#DnD setting pretty much since I could read books for myself, so something like 25 years. İt started with the Prism Pentad, followed by the awesome CRPGs (Shattered Lands and Wake of the Ravager), then a bit later the various #ADandD#RPG sourcebooks.
I was aware of athas.org from years ago, though I'd never engaged with it properly. However, as of this week I realised the guys behind that site have been doing a podcast, where they've begun interviewing some of the big names of Dark Sun (most excitingly for me, #TroyDenning , the author of the Prism Pentad). Looking forward to the next episode!
Coincides with one of my regular dips back into my fave #CRPGs , most recently the classic Strahd's Possession. That's because I read the 5e update a couple of weeks ago on DnD Beyond (thanks @martynrackham 😉), leading me to binge on old 2e etc #Ravenloft sourcebooks. I'll most likely be booting up my old Dark Sun CRPGs too, seems inevitable. 😀 ☀🌞☀ #SlideyCRPG#SlideyDarkSun#SlideyDnD
Ready for your Saturday #storystarter ? This week's story is based in the world of #Ravenloft or any land of Gothic horror. Some of the emojis are not quite what I wanted but that's what makes a story interesting.
The adventurers are exploring deep into a cavern when out of nowhere strange mists slither up from the deepest cavern depths. As the mists clear the adventurers find themselves in what appears to be a giant honeycomb underground. Golden honey drips from the walls but in the shadows lurks an observer. Someone is watching the party's moves but vanishes upon notice. Deeper into the caverns the party finds an egg made of glass. Inside swirls a dark mist like the mist they saw earlier. Deeper into the caverns, deeper into the comb the players find a latched door in the floor. Passing through the door, the players find a castle old and abandoned with Egyptian hieroglyphs. Outside a sprawling desert.
Who is the stranger in the shadows and why is it following the players? What is in the egg and is it the doorway home or a container for something horrible. Where is the castle and why did the mists of Ravenloft bring the party here?
I imagine this to be another land of Ravenloft other than Barovia. Perhaps a hybrid of Egypt and fantasy eastern Europe? Here are some questions to extend your story : - Does the castle have a horror like Strahd?
- Is the shadowy figure a protector or guardian?
- What makes the honey in the honey comb?
Does this spark some ideas for you? If so leave them in the comments. Let's build some stories together! Enjoy!

Alright so instead of being productive on my day off I spent all day sleeping off the last of this bullshit cold and designing a new #dnd character. This is Pietr. Pietr is an anarcho-primitivist druid who worships fungus. He wants to personally overthrow and kill Strahd von Zarovich because he's the two worst things a person can be: rich and undead. #rpg#ravenloft#curseofstrahd#holyfiredoodles
The end of a big project took up a few days of the #doodletimewithkaroline drawing challenge, so I combined the prompts for Christmas Sweater and Christmas Cookie into one.
PRIANNA TIP FOR NEWCOMERS TO BAROVIA: If you want the Count to do anything he seems reluctant to do, simply have Rahadin do it first. Yes, he seems like a displeased housecat having to wear a silly hat for it’s owner, but deep down he enjoys the attention. So far he hasn’t rejected anything she’s asked him to do! Surely that has to do with how agreeable of a man he is and totally has nothing to do with this emotional bond that’s suddenly developed out of nowhere oh god—
“...sometimes like fire and the glorious sunsets and the figtrees in the Alameda gardens yes and all the
queer little streets and the pink and blue and yellow houses and the rosegardens and the jessamine
and geraniums and cactuses and Gibraltar as a girl where I was a Flower of the mountain yes when I
put the rose in my hair like the Andalusian girls used or shall I wear a red yes and how he kissed me
under the Moorish wall and I thought well as well him as another and then I asked him with my
eyes to ask again yes and then he asked me would I yes to say yes my mountain flower and first I
put my arms around him yes and drew him down to me so he could feel my breasts all perfume yes
and his heart was going like mad and yes I said yes I will Yes.”
Big Irony: The day I pick up this beautiful box set is the day one of my characters dies. Santo was a beacon of hope in the dark lands of Barovia. May he rest in peace. #dnd#5e#rpg#ravenloft#curseofstrahd
Last week the triplets learned they needed the blood of a Valley Elf to perform the ritual, but they couldn’t bring Aurora’s blood into Barovia. They came up with a way to circumvent that, but were halted by Grant, who told them they couldn’t perform the ritual, it would lead Shaft straight to them. Instead a celestial touched Syn’s soul to find Shaft for them, and Grant came up with a weapon to take Shaft down. Belmont- who’d been unconscious for a month- vanished from Tabby’s Temple right after they got Shaft’s location. This week they discover how Belmont escaped, and who went missing in the escape, and mount a rescue plan. #DnD#5e#DungeonsandDragons#DnD5e#rpg#SunDnDay#CurseofStrahd#Ravenloft#Strahd#Barovia https://buff.ly/2UdA1Xa
Most of you by now know I’m a nerd, geek, weirdo, whatever you wanna call it. I’ve been playing Dungeons and Dragons on and off since I was 13. What actually got me into the game was this book right here.
Scholar of Decay is set in the Ravenloft campaign, an alternate reality/pocket dimension called the Demiplane of Dread. The Demiplane consists of land pieces called domains, overseen by The Dark Powers. Each domain is ruled by a Darklord. It’s more gothic horror than fantasy and the entire campaign is stellar. As is this book.
The novel itself is set in the domain of Richemulot, in the city Pont-a-Museau. The Darklord of this place is Jaqueline Renier, who also happens to be the temporal leader. And she and her entire family are wererats. The main character, Aurek, is on a quest to free his imprisoned wife; his brother Dmitri falls in with the wererats and drags his brother into Jaqueline’s sister’s twisted game.
Time to revisit a better time in life. ✌🏻
