Project Gratitude : Day 15
Today is the last day of a 7-weekend bazaar. The longest commitment that I have by far in terms of selling my artwork.
Never had I imagine that I would be doing any kind of sales in my life. It is something that I always thought I would not be able to do.
All my life, I have always been a good consumer and a very seasoned shopper!
However, when you stand behind the counter and doing your best to defend your product; it is a 360 degree change in everything. From putting up on display all of your creations for others to judge, whether or not they are willing to spend their hard-earned money on your labor, and then there is the part whether or not they will come back to have another round of your new creations.
It’s exciting and intimidating all at once.
The best experience that I have learnt from this is how to hold up yourself in the face of rejection - my biggest fear in dealing with people in any situation.
Thankfully, I have come to a conclusion that when people do not buy my artwork, it isn’t about disapproval of my creations…it is simply because for that particular time frame, my artwork is not something that they see as a need.
I noticed there are 3 types of customers:
1. They are ready to buy any product that’s being offered
2. They need some time to make the decision on purchasing your products - usually to check about a thing or two on what they look in a product
3. They take longer time to buy a product - often times, they require more info regarding the product to justify their buying decision
This realization has kept me going back to put up the stand even when the previous weekend was only about sweating in the sun.
Having the faith that your honest labor will somehow be appreciated in return, has kept me going from one bazaar to another. Eventually, every creation will find its own way to a new loving home.
Life is the best teacher and I am truly humbled by this experience.
Much love and gratitude,
