Grip Strength Tip: Fat Gripz are a great tool for improving grip strength. While I’m using them to do pull-ups, you can also use them on dumbbells and barbells. I also occasionally use Fat Gripz when I’m doing bottoms-up kettlebell presses.

This variation of the pull-up I find to be a good way to keep people from going into excessive lumbar extension. The pull-up is a more complicated exercise than most people think. It is important to maintain neutral spine while pulling through the shoulder blades using a full range of motion.

The shoulder blades should be depressing, adducting, and downwardly rotating during the concentric(pull) then elevating, abducting and upward rotating when returning to the hang position. A more simple cut most people can get away with is making sure to depress(pull the shoulders down) during the up portion, then going all the way down to a dead hang. All while maintaining spine position. Most individuals I see doing pull-ups are compensating by using too much lumbar extension.

I have my Master’s degree and read up on the latest science in my field.

But I also read a lot more of “woo-woo” and personal development books.

The reason I’m sharing these random facts with you is because for YEARS I thought I had to change certain aspects depending on “who” I wanted to fit in with.
.

I didn’t do yoga, because I thought it went against strength training. I didn’t wear make up on days I worked out because I was afraid of being mocked out. I never drank green juice nor owned essential oils because I was “team science”, so that “hippy” stuff was something I couldn’t be in to.
.

But then I realized I wasn’t being myself. You can enjoy both sides of things. There are no rules when it comes to being happy and being how you truly are.
.

I love lifting weights and I have a strong science background. I also believe fully in being my highest self, being happy, and nurturing my soul.
.

So I urge you today to break the rules. Do what truly makes you thrive, who cares what other people think or say.
.

It truly is beautiful when you can embrace you, authentically. - - - - - - - - - -

One of my #newyearsresolutions this year is to tone up and finally get the 6-pack abs I’ve always wanted. While I have high hopes to check that off my list this year, I am more proud of the strides I’ve taken into being a person deserving of that body type.

To give myself a push I did something I’ve never done before. My brother and I signed up for a #spartanrace in mid-April. It was super windy and cold that day and by the end of the race it started raining so everything got 10x harder to complete but we did it! Got a spartan race under my belt.

Having the race date put a timeline for me. It forced me to keep myself on track with working out 🏋🏻. Plenty of days I found myself dragging when it was gym time, but I made myself do the workout (mostly so my younger brother didn’t show me up...lol).

Since the competition it hasn’t been perfect but I have found it a lot easier to stay consistent with workouts 😁

Haven't done heavy weighted pull ups in a while! As you can see I said #fuckit and sent it! Pleased that I could still get 80lbs for reps!

Super setting chin-ups and dips for arms today! We started with body weight for 3 sets then started with lightweight and are progressively adding more until we can’t do 1 rep. This is my 6th overall set with a weight of 35lbs, I completed 6 pull-ups with 12 dips. #ifitdonthurtitdontwork

I know you want to get back to HIIT quickly, but especially if your time off was caused by #hypothalamicamenorrhea, know that HIIT isn't very friendly for your hormones, at least at first.

Stretch and do mobility work often 🧘‍♀️ It helps to prevent injuries and make sure that you don't get super sore.

Sometimes you need to go back to very basics. Embrace where you are, yes, even if you used to do crazy hard stuff like crossfit. Build back that strength with simple bodyweight exercises, focus on core stability and proper breathing. Build that foundation first.

My first visit to the gym after 2 month. Starting with baby steps to do some basic training. Thanks to ISC I have come too far in short time already. I went to the gym because it was Sunday morning and not to many crowd to do my rehab exercises. Since I am so slow I need time to move around. To be back to the gym, It was both depressing how much I lost this past months but also inspiring that from 2 W ago I started my rehab that I could  barely walk to do so many different exercises. But My Pull-ups skills is far far back which makes me determine to look fwd and get there where I was before my injury. Pull up strength is a very popular goal in the fitness world and one of the hardest to accomplish without the correct progression.
·
You'll often see people doing pulls ups incorrect with rounded shoulders and no scapula control.
·
This is why it is essential to build control and strength with pull-up progressions, because the fundamentals never get old!
·
1️⃣ Inverted Rows, before attempting pull ups I recommend building strength in horizontal pulling movement because they require less overhead shoulder mobility and strengthen your upper back and rhomboids 🔥
·

2️⃣ Lat Pulldown (any grip) is a great movement to replicate scapular movement of pull-ups while working the same muscles. Ensure you keep your scapula depressed and shoulders back as you pull!

3️⃣ Scap-ups 🔥  are my favorite exercise for teaching scapular control and building strength. Hang from a bar with your arms locked out and bring your scapula back and down (ie. Biceps away from your ears without bending the arms. You'll feel your mid and lower traps work if you're doing this right.
·
4️⃣ Negative Pull-ups are an excellent progression to build eccentric strength (ie. Control) for pull ups. You can jump up to the start position, or have a friend boost you up and control the negative to the bottom for 2-3 seconds, more is better! 💪🏻
·
5️⃣ Band Pull-ups, start performing full reps with a heavy band and progress to a lighter band as you get stronger and B00M you'll be doing pull ups before you know it! 🔥

Hang from a bar with your arms locked out and bring your scapula back and down (ie. Biceps away from your ears without bending the arms. You'll feel your mid and lower traps work if you're doing this right. · 4️⃣ Negative Pull-ups are an excellent progression to build eccentric strength (ie. Control) for pull ups. Neutral grip pull-ups and 3ct bench from today’s training sess.  Did 60 pull-ups in sets of 10, easy breezy.  I was going to start adding weights to my neutral grip sessions to make them more challenging, but I had to postpone that when I injured my back. Now waiting for my back to be at 💯 before going too crazy.  My entire left upper body is still a tiny bit f’d up. More rehab and being cautious should do the trick.  So no weighted pull-ups for me just yet 😬. 3ct bench was gr8 today, but not sure why I look so orange. My face gets red when I lift, I’ll admit, but I already looked like a 🍅 before starting my set, which is not normal 😂. 5R @ 60kg, RPE7. @andreygpt .

I was feeling pretty low energy from stuffing my face with all the carbs so I only did one exercise, Pullups and variations. That's one way I trick myself into working out. A whole workout can be intimidating or too much effort to the point where I just won't workout at all. But if I tell myself "just do 1 exercise" I'll at least do something and feel better. And maybe it leads to a few more exercises... 10 pullups (my max) with slow eccentric on the last rep

I train high intensity. I know about the benefits and hype around high volume but ain't nobody got time for that! I workout 3-5 days a week but I train so many different things (parkour, Olympic lifting, martial arts, calisthenics) that it would be difficult for me to do a workout multiple times a week. When I'm a professional athlete though... Watch out 🔫

Take a neutral grip on parallel pull-up bars, hanging freely with your arms extended. This will be your starting position. Pull yourself up by flexing the elbows and extending the glenohumeral joint. Do not swing or use momentum to complete the movement. Attempt to get your chin above your hands.
