For 4 years that i passed by this historically significant Gates of the Walled City of Intramuros as I pursued my studies at the Lyceum of the Philippines University, i have both encountered its grand beauty, day and night, under the sun or under the rain☀️💦🌤☔️ #reminiscing#puertadelparian#lycean
Puerta del Parian - Gate facing the east.
The gate was named after the "Parian de Arroceros", one of the earliest concentrations of Chinese merchants located across the city where the Metropolitan Theater now stands. Built in 1593, it is one of the earliest entrances to Intramuros. It became the official entrance of the Governor-General in 1764, following the destruction of Puerta Real during the British invasion. -wikipedia

The gates to the ASEAN garden on the opposite side of the Lyceum of the Philippines.
This became the official entry gate of the Spanish Governor General after the brief British occupation of Manila in 1762-1764. "Puerta del Parian" took its name from Parian De Arroceros (Chinese rice dealers market) where the unconverted Chinese lived and conduct their trades since Intramuros is off-limits to them. "Parian" generally was that area between the Pasig river and Intramuros -- (presently the Lawton & Arroceros locations). #travelgram#puertadelparian#parian#intramuros#manila#gates#pinoy#chinese#heritage#itsmorefuninthephilippines
