Let’s talk about diffusers! Most of you probably use candles to make your home smell oh-so-yummy and what better time of year than now?! All the smells of baked pies, apple cider, pine trees and cinnamon! YUM 😋 I don’t blame ya... I used to be that home too. Plug-ins, airsprays and candles. I had it all. But since using a diffuser and learning more and more about oils, I’ve also learned that burning candles in your home or office or AT ALL is actually really bad for us. National Institute of Health lists these concerns for air quality when burning scented candles: • flare-ups of allergy or asthma
• increase risk of heart and lung disease
• exacerbation of COPD • irregular heart rate
Here are some things listed by several articles on burning candles I found directly through the NIH website ☺️:
🌿 ventilate your home 🌿 limit burning candles and incense indoors
🌿 avoid using air fresheners, cleaning products and fragrances that have pine or citrus scents.
The chemicals one is exposed to while burning candles includes formaldehyde, particulate matter, petroleum, p-dichlorobenzene, naphthalene (known to cause tissue damage and cancer in lungs), and paraffin containing acetone, benzene and toluene (all known carcinogens).
I share this bc I believe in doing what I can to decrease risks and improve health! If you’d like more info, shoot me a DM. 🖤🌿
I was speaking with a client yesterday and she has been through too many hurtful relationships. She is a giver and wants to be loved. My heart was saddened as she shared all of the people who take her granted and manipulate her to serve their needs. When I asked her what love was she said she didn’t know. She said he told her he loved her, he made her feel good, and she doesn’t want to be alone. She wants the dream. I found myself in prayer after I left that visit. My heart was so full of emotion. I prayed how to serve this woman who has possibly never really been loved, seen, or heard in her entire life. It is this scripture that has blessed my heart over the last 24 hours. I pray that these words bless her and you some day as they have blessed mine. #love#kindness#publichealthnurse#blessed#prayerworksmiracles#prana
As a public health nurse, Helen helps low income families overcome difficult health challenges. With patience and kindness, honesty and integrity, she is always seeking to understand rather than simply fix a problem. She really does go the extra mile, and for this reason and a million more, Helen is a recipient of our County’s 2018 Employee Excellence Award. Like many people who work behind the scenes to change lives, Helen does not seek out attention for her accomplishments, which is why she didn’t want to take this photo unless her supervisor, Douglas, was also pictured! We are grateful to have hardworking nurses like her at the Public Health Department. Join us in congratulating her! #employeerecognition#publichealthnurse#countyofsantaclara
Dear RVA, the Virginia Department of Health gave out free flu shots on Friday at the Southside Community Services Center 👏🏽...and I watched a nurse, Theresa (from VDH), walk a very scared teenish lookin’ kid through the experience with such compassion and kindness...and with humanity and preservation of that child. Thank you public health workers of #rva , we see your care and grit! ❤️ #dearrva#publichealthnurse#publichealthrva
I was on my way to grocery shop with my housemate yesterday when we both realized it was the first Thursday of the month, which means FREE museum entry in Seattle 🙌
Sooo we took a quick detour and spent an hour in the new Nordic Museum in Ballard. I’ve been talking up the NM to most of my friends because it. is. so. cool.
This long hallway is designed to be reminiscent of a fjord, which I think is pretty neat 🌊 I learned about the myriad ways Nordic countries are pioneers of sustainable policy and got a pang of a wanderlust (I hate the word ‘wanderlust’, but there you have it) at how beautiful the nordic countries are and how their landscapes look so similar to the Pacific Northwest
Arts, culture, and sustainability are not separate entities. All three are deeply intertwined and nourish the parts of ourselves that want to feel connected to one another. From that connection springs compassion, and from that compassion, action.
Grab a pal or loved one and take them to a museum with you. Next free entry in Seattle will be December 6th.
