The new Fortnum & Mason store and champagne bar at the Royal Exchange at Bank in the City of London, bringing together two of London’s iconic institutions in one building. This new Fortnum’s is just a few mins from my City office, so I doubt I’ll be a stranger here!
Merry Christmas everyone!

GYMKHANA 💐 the façade of this restaurant is so beautiful with the flowers but there are parking spots in front of it so it’s always partially blocked! Thankfully this shot of the door was doable so I can still show off their hard work .

A short walk from Aberdeen Harbour is the Hung Shing temple. This temple started out as an altar built on a rock that stood on what used to be the shoreline, since Hung Shing is the deity who provides protection at sea, worshipped by fishermen, farmers and sea traders. Over the years, land reclamation has ‘pushed’ the temple farther inland.
Estimated to be built between 1847 and 1852, it underwent its first renovation in 2015. Despite the dramatic changes to the city around it, the temple is still used by worshippers.

Inside is a  Butsudan, sometimes (仏壇, literally "Buddhist altar"), is a shrine commonly found in temples and homes in  Buddhistcultures. A butsudan is either a defined, often ornate platform or simply a wooden cabinetsometimes crafted with doors that enclose and protect a Gohonzon or religious icon, typically a statue or painting of a Buddha or Bodhisattva, or a calligraphic mandala scroll.
Outside the svastika was originally a symbol of the sun, perhaps of the vernal sun as opposed to the autumnal sun, the sauvastika, and, therefore, a natural symbol of light, life, health, peace and wealth." The letter was published in Schliemann's book Ilios(1880): "In the footprints of Buddha the Buddhists recognize no less than sixty-five auspicious signs, the first of them being the Svastika ..."

📸📸📸📸📸📸📸📸📸📸📸📸📸 🇨🇳 A dragon boat (image 1) is a human-powered watercraft ( here the HK Police team ) originating from the Pearl River Delta region of China's southern Guangdong Province. These were made of teak, but in other parts of China, different kinds of wood are used. It is one of a family of traditional paddled long boats found throughout Asia, Africa, the Pacific islands, and Puerto Rico. The sport of dragon boat racing has its roots in an ancient folk ritual of contending villagers, which dates back 2000 years throughout southern China, and even further to the original games of Olympia in ancient Greece. Both dragon boat racing and the ancient Olympiadincluded aspects of religious observances and community celebrations, along with competition. 🐉🐉🐉🐉🐉🐉🐉🐉🐉🐉
A sampan ( 舢舨, images 2,3) is a relatively flat bottomed Chinese wooden boat. The word "sampan" literally means "three planks", referring to the hull design, which consists of a flat bottom (made from one plank) joined to two sides (the other two planks). The design closely resembles Western hard chine boats like the scow or punt. Some include a small shelter on board, and may be used as a permanent habitation on inland waters. Sampans are generally used for transportation in coastal areas or rivers, and are often used as traditional fishing 🐟🐟🐟 boats.( Image 2 ) shows bright lights on the side of a boat designed to lure squid to the surface🐙🐙🐙🐙 . It is unusual for a sampan to sail far from land as they cannot survive rough weather.

In common use, "mandala" has become a generic term for any diagram, chart or geometric pattern that represents the cosmos metaphysically or symbolically; a microcosm of the universe.
The basic form of most mandalas is a square with four gates containing a circle with a center point. Each gate is in the general shape of a T. Mandalas often have radial balance.
The term appears in the Rigveda as the name of the sections of the work, and Vedic rituals use mandalas such as the Navagraha mandala to this day. Mandalas are also used in Tibetan Buddhism. 🙏

📸📸📸📸📸📸📸📸📸📸📸📸📸 Young Indonesian women in demure traditional garb stroll through Hong Kong Park on Sunday.

Indonesians in Hong Kong, numbering 102,100, form the second-largest ethnic minority group in the territory, behind Filipinos.80 - 90% are women; most Indonesians coming to Hong Kong today are those who arrive under limited-term contracts for employment as foreign domestic helpers. The Hong Kong Immigration Department allows the Indonesian consulate to force Indonesian domestic helpers to use employment agencies. Employment agencies in Indonesia sending workers to Hong Kong provide up to six months of training in household work, including a basic course in Cantonese and extract high fees, comprising 6 months of salary (US$2,709).😪 Camps in which the young women migrants are made to stay for the duration of their training also double as a system of incarceration. Following the period of training, the workers will spend up to a few years (sic) detained until a job offer is made in order to prevent pregnancy and ensure that workers will be available when jobs are requested. 🤔
Living conditions in centres are poor. Women are made to sleep on the floor packed tightly against each other, and only one bucket of water is afforded per person for bathing. There is little medical care for illness that result from these conditions, and physical and sexual abuse occurs. 😱 Even the trip from home to the migration center often involves being sexually abused by the training center recruiter.
Money is remitted home via friends or informal networks such as hawala ( value transfer networks). Money remitted allows relatives to start businesses, creating employment for up to 6 people per helper.

The Chinese name for taxi used in Hong Kong, dik si(的士), is a Cantonese transliteration of the English word "taxi". The earliest pioneer of the modern taxi service may have been Wu Zung (胡忠). In 1941, he is believed to have owned 40 taxis, including 10 white cards, which he leased to the government. When the Japanese occupation of Hong Kong began in December of the same year, he suspended his transport operation. He resumed his business after the war with 100 cars.
Prior to 1974, taxi liveries were chosen by licensees, with a proliferation of colours and mingling with private vehicles. On 13 September 1974, the government gazetted standard colours – silver for the upper half and red for the lower half – for all taxicabs in Hong Kong to weed out illegal taxis. From 1976 onwards, "ordinary" (red) taxis would be allowed to continue to operate in the New Territories as well as Kowloon and Hong Kong Island, while New Territories taxis – silver for the upper half and green for the lower would be forbidden from venturing into urban areas. A batch of 20 blue taxis serving Lantau Island started operating in 1983.
The majority of HK taxis (Toyota Coronas) are owned by 17 independent taxi companies that rent out taxis on a shift basis to 40,000 self-employed drivers.
As of 2017, there were 18,163 taxis in Hong Kong, of which 15,250 were urban taxis, 2,838 were New Territories taxis, and 75 were Lantau taxis. Every day they serve about 1.1 million, 207,900 and 1,400 people respectively.

📸📸📸📸📸📸📸📸📸📸📸📸📸 The Battle of Hong Kong (8–25 December 1941), also known as the Defence of Hong Kong and the Fall of Hong Kong, was one of the first battles of the Pacific War in World War II. On the same morning as the attack on Pearl Harbor, forces of the Empire of Japan attacked the British Crown colony of Hong Kong. The attack was in violation of international law as Japan had not declared war against the British Empire. Within a week the defenders abandoned the mainland and less than two weeks later, with their position on the island untenable, the colony had raised the white flag of surrender on Christmas Day 1941. 🇯🇵🇨🇳 🇯🇵Today, 78 years later, Hong Kong embraces Japanese work ethics, culture and products. Multinational dancers, dressed as Japanese, entertain residents at a night at the Happy Valley racetrack, surrounded by wealthy skyscrapers. Locals purchase Japanese lenses, eat sushi and drink Asahi beer.
