Yin Yoga is a style of yoga that asks us to truly surrender and release. Each pose is held for a few minutes and the point is to relax in the stretch. No pushing or pulling, but instead, quite the opposite. It allows the body to sink, open, and stretch on its own terms, at its own pace. In this way, the breath can flow uninterrupted and unmanipulated. This teaches us how we react in poses and in life, when breath is the only tool we have to turn to.
My video is sped up, but it shows me moving through a short and sweet Yin practice after class today. Instead of pushing a Vinyasa flow, I opted to do Yin instead. I even skipped rock climbing today, because my hips are in pain and my low back is sensitive. And while Yin doesn’t fix my pain immediately, it allows me to slow down enough to let the body heal itself.

I was struggling for years to find a man who valued me. All I wanted was a man who finally understood me. Someone I could sit up late with and have real conversations. Someone where you have a connection of mind and body.
To achieve this what I had to do was change my limiting beliefs about it being possible. I'd been on so many dates with the wrong guys that I was beginning to think that my ideal man didn't exist.
I made a list of his qualities. I constantly re-evaluated what he was like so I would have a clear picture of him. However my core values of what kind of person he was inside never changed.
When we did meet it felt like we'd always known each other because we were exactly what the other was looking for.

Probably my favorite storm shot I've taken so far out of any monsoon I've experienced. Yesterday was just absolutely incredible in northern Arizona. Lightning was striking quite close at times, but the cloud structure was far more impressive than any strike I've managed to capture. Well, shoot! I broke my fast way earlier than I thought I would, at about 41 hours. I realized I wanted to have energy to work on things today, because I literally could not move off the floor. But I know if I would have stuck to my fast by just resting, I would eventually have more energy than ever before! But all is still well. My main focus was to gain more clarity on how to begin my new YouTube channel, and I did just that. I know I will fast again, and this dry fast was a great exercise in awareness. I did find it hard not let myself spiral into binge eating when I broke my fast. I started with water, coconut water, some coconut meat, pickled jalapeños, and a plum. But I was turned off by food really quickly once I drank some cooked beet/carrot broth that felt like acid in my stomach! And it had a strange metallic taste...🤔 Despite all the eating, I also was connected to something more stable than before that I can’t really explain. I felt stronger, and like I could connect more with the freedom that comes with choosing not to eat. So I’m back to a new square one: meaning, I am back to where I started with a little more perspective gained. A new loop in the spiral of ascension. I may need to find more balance and have more fruits and juices for a bit, and maybe some flexibility is still okay 😊The ultimate goal is never just not eating. It is the awareness we gain along the way, even when we get sidetracked. Who knows... maybe I will jump into another fast sooner than I realize. Much love ~💟Alana
Meditation isn't always about looking perfect or being perfect. Its about surrendering to the moment. The imperfections & all. Thoughts might arise but just let them flow. No judgement. No constriction. No good. No bad. It just is. The act of being. Being present. Being in the moment. Let everything else go. I wanted to discuss meditation practice in correlation to the crown chakra - Sahasrara. Our yoga practice for this energy center is about stillness & turning inward. There are so many styles of meditation so feel free to explore till you find one that resonates with you. If you find it challenging to settle your thoughts, using a mantra (like "So Hum" = "I am") to focus your concentration allows you to calm your mind. We all know the wonderful benefits of a regular meditation practice. It can reduce stress, improve concentration, calm the mind, increase self-awareness, happiness & acceptance, but it can also slow the process of aging. There are so many reasons to eat local food, but a big one from the ayurvedic perspective is prana. Prana is often translated as “life-force”, but it is a far more expansive concept, maybe better summed up as the primary energy of universe. Prana expresses itself in every aspect of creation and is the creative intelligence itself. In ayurveda, however, we talk about “pranic food” which is food that has a strong vital energy. Local, organically grown produce is going to have a stronger prana force than food shipped long distances, for after produce has been harvested, its prana begins to diminish. This is one of the many reasons that we are excited to be at the peak of farmers market season! What are you getting at the market these days? Can you feel the energetic difference?
