It just wouldn't be like me if I got nominated for a challenge and didn't follow through with it. Thanks to my friend Justin @deadman875 for nominating for the pics to lyrics challenge. Any of my followers who have yet to see his work do it, do it now!
I'll have to put my abandoned hotel pics on hold for a few days while I figure this out.
Here's my Day 1/7 post for the pics to lyrics challenge. Snapped this pic outside the richest independent state in the world aka The Vatican in Rome. Everything that's wrong with the world in 1 shot and everybody remains silent........ The Sound of Silence
Disturbed (originally by Simon and Garfunkel). Hello darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Within the sound of silence
In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone
'Neath the halo of a street lamp
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence
And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more
People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never share
And no one dared
Disturb the sound of silence
Fools, said I, you do not know
Silence like a cancer grows
Hear my words that I might teach you
Take my arms that I might reach you
But my words, like silent raindrops fell
And echoed in the wells of silence
And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming
And the sign said, the words of the prophets are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls
And whispered in the sounds of silence #streetart#povertyreduction#religionkills#streetphotography#povertybench#religionpoisonseverything#religion#antireligion#photooftheday#goodwithoutgod#religionfree#powerlifting#nogod#photography#povertyissexist#instagood#atheism#streetstyle#street#povertyalleviation#poverty#logic#atheist#povertyisnotacrime#povertysquat#streetlife#vatican#rome
For many Californians, simply attaining hope is inaccessible. That’s not ok.

Oh happy day! 🌞
My jars FINALLY arrived!!!
With months of delays from the manufacturing side, and a full week of “you’ll get your delivery tomorrow, just sit outside and watch for it” (because I have time for that, right?!?!) from the shipping company, this has been the most frustrating, rage-inducing experience my entire 5 years in business.
However, when that truck pulled up the lane yesterday morning, and a few rad folks from the @redroadlodge123 jumped in to help me unload the 2 full skids and carry most of them down to the basement, my annoyance quickly turned to complete, humble gratitude for the amazing community of people I’ve gotten to know here the past 3.5 years. A wandering group of down-and-outers (you’ve seen them, and maybe even crossed the street upon approaching them), passed by while we were unloading and a few of them just jumped right in, totally eager to help out.
This neighbourhood doesn’t deserve its poor reputation.
Sure, the majority of tenants are poor in finances, but rich in spirit. There are addictions, homelessness, oppression, anger, and heartbreak, but I’ve never once had a bad experience with any of the neighbourhood folks, and most often find that they just want to help, find their place in this world, and receive a warm smile from passerby’s on the street.
Spread love into this world and you’ll find that love will come back to you when you need it most. ❤️❤️❤️
They have the right to equal treatment, education, protection, and care. Thank you for bringing justice to the ones we’ve been entrusted with. Sadly, there are millions more who need help. Stand with someone who is changing the lives of street children around the world. Draw a line in the sand and say no more.
Hey friends, I'm turning 30 tomorrow and raising funds for the #BrooklynCommunityBailFund . They pay bail for New Yorkers who can’t afford even modest amounts, and who would be jailed or forced to plead guilty just to go home. At a time when more than 60% of people behind bars aren't actually serving a sentence, but awaiting trial, I hope we can make even a small difference together. Every little bit helps - donate at the link in my bio (@laurenkayroberts) or if you’re over FB (understandable) head to brooklynbailfund.org to give. Thanks for considering!
