Shama arrived to the HMC in active labor on June 26 at 1pm. She had her daughter Aliyah at at exactly 2pm. Shama is a first time Mom and today she had a three week postpartum check-up. Other than being so tired, Shama says all is well. #heartlinemc#postpartumcare
THE POWER OF BEING THANKFUL!
If we have to wait to see how we feel before we know if we can enjoy the day, then we are giving feelings control over us. But thankfully, we have free will and can make decisions that are not based on feelings. If we are willing to make right choices regardless of how we feel, God will always be faithful to give us the strength to do so.
Prayer of Thanks: Father, I thank You that I no longer have to let my feelings control me. I am so grateful that I don’t have to wait to see how I feel every day before I know how to act. With Your help, I am going to live beyond my feelings—I’m going to live the joy-filled life Jesus came to give me!
🙈 such a taboo topic 🙊 but someone has to start the conversation 💁🏻♀️💁🏽♀️💁🏾♀️ First and foremost disregard the time line of 6 weeks being the magic number to dive into an active sex life. It happens when you are ready and not because you reached 6 weeks #postpartum ... your body, your rules! Honestly, you probably won’t be ready at 6weeks and that is perfectly fine. If you’re a #breastfeeding mama your hormones are still regulating so don’t be alarmed if you’re experiencing a lower than usual sex-drive. I promise it’s perfectly normal, you have a lot going on mentally, physically, and emotionally. However, If you feel you are ready, awesome!! You know your body best. Just a friendly reminder that lubrication is key, especially if you’re breastfeeding. Coconut oil is a great option but oil doesn’t work with condoms so make sure you get a water based lubricant to stay protected. I love @sustain you can’t beat #natural , #vegan , non-gmo, organic, vagina friendly products AND it was created by a woman so you know it’s legit! Also, exclusive breastfeeding isn’t always 100% at preventing pregnancy, always use a back-up method to make sure there are no surprises😳 So remember... take it easy, take it slow, and keep an open line of #communication with your partner. Op het gebied van trainen zie je vaak de focus liggen op de sexy, moeilijke en Instagram-waardige oefeningen. Een oefening voor je ademhaling of een simpele oefening voor de mobiliteit zie je zelden. The integration and healing time after you have a baby is often under estimated or ignored. The birthing parent or mother is too quickly expected to bounce back into their routine as if they did not just create , usher in life, and have to clean up lots of poop. I'm glad she is highlighting her postpartum healing journey. I feel so strongly in vaginal steaming and its ability to support the mother or birthing parent in their postpartum recovery and long term uterine health.

Running in the heat can be so much harder! Today was a hot day for Seattle standards. ~80 degrees is considered hot for around here. After taking my little guy to the beach, I waited until later in the day to do my 3 mile run. My pace was 11:07 again.
This run really made me hopeful about getting my pace faster in the future. For me, I know I can run so much faster when it is cold out. So I know by when the fall and winter comes around, I’ll be closer to my goal pace. Of course, that can only happen if I continue to stay injury free by recovering carefully.
A new mother should have a balanced diet of five to seven servings of whole grains, rice or cereal, two servings each of fruit and vegetables and two to three servings of low-fat dairy to make sure she gets enough protein, iron and calcium. These are important nutrients, especially during postpartum and for breastfeeding mothers. Those who are breastfeeding need an extra 500 calories on top of their daily 1,800 to 2,000 calories.

I met with some pretty amazing women discussing the support (or the lack there of) in the postpartum period. ACOG has recently addressed this in their latest report. All women should have a postpartum visit WITHIN the first 3 weeks, and the timing of subsequent visits should be ‘comprehensive and woman-centered.’ 🙌🏼
