Trying to spread the love equally is hard when the first one has been the apple of your eye for two and a bit years.
Today I felt the most guilt so far about Sonny and how he’s feeling, and on top of that I also felt bad that Daisy will never get the time devoted to her that Sonny did.
I think me and Mr R are doing a pretty good job of sharing our time equally with both of them but it’s hard and I especially feel like it’s never enough for Sonny. I think there have been more tantrums, more testing of boundaries although I’m not totally sure as children are pretty adaptable and it tends to be us adults who get in the way and inflict our expectations on them or look for signs that aren’t actually there. He’s certainly full of cuddles and kisses for his little sister and the first thing he says each morning is “Where’s Daisy?”
Probably this is a time of adjustment and learning a new normal but I’m sure that soon enough he won’t be able to imagine life without her. And especially when she’s old enough for them to play together.
I’m probably feeling a bit more anxious about things today as last night every time I got a bit of sleep I had a nightmare, things like accidents or awful things happening to them. I’ve also had a lingering headache today, possibly worry too. Hopefully it’s all just a process and this will get easier and less nerve wracking?

Back in the gym today, woop woop, 6 days postpartum. But hold up there pelvic floor police, 🖐🏻 before I start getting messages about the fragile state of my undercarriage post baby. 😙
I was merely following the pelvic floor and core exercises set out in the Fit for the Future booklet given out by my midwife. UK mums 🇬🇧, before you sign up to some expensive postnatal workout guide, make sure you read and actually DO the exercises in the NHS booklet handed out to you by your midwife after birth when you leave the hospital. It’s part of the pack with your red book. I went to a prenatal physio class when I was pregnant with Sonny and it was extremely beneficial and yet one of the most under attended. (Incidentally it’s also where I met my bezzy mate claire_hamilton_abbott ❤️❤️ so there can be more to these classes than you think) 
UK mums, 🇬🇧 if you’re offered that class, please go.
I filmed my workout so I’ll share when I’ve had a chance to edit but in the meantime here’s a pic from today. Amazed at how much my stomach has gone down this time. Must admit after baby number two I didn’t know how it would go but hopefully this gives some reassurance to other mums reading this and planning their second sprog.
If you didn’t see my stories we had our first proper night of newborn cluster feeding so I didn’t sleep much at all last night but funnily enough felt much better today - probably thanks to your reassurance on yesterday’s post. Today’s escapades are in my stories as usual. Actual workout to follow sooooooon xx

Here we are at 2 weeks postpartum tomorrow. 
My body has recovered much quicker this time and I think the main reason is because I didn’t over do it during pregnancy. With Sonny my first baby I was scared of what pregnancy would do to my body so I tried to keep up high standards. I would often force myself to go to the gym, even though I felt like crap. This time I trained roughly 2-3 times a week and very much went on how I felt that day. By no means did I force myself to train, I did as much or as little as I felt like that day. I also ate really well and made sure I got rest when I needed.
Result was that I didn’t have as much swelling/water retention, no colds or infections and by the end I still felt extremely fit and able (for someone whose 9 months pregnant that is!)
Moral of the story: Don’t be afraid that during pregnancy you’ll ‘lose your fitness or lose your body’ Stay active (if you can) train within your limits and listen to your body, it probably knows what it needs better than you do. Do be mindful of what you eat, I think this is really key. I followed a clean diet like I always do. Occasional treats and I definitely I ate more than usual however it was all good nutritious food that my body needed. Fiery skies tonight! Tonight we’re promoting #selfcaresunday 🔸Taking some time to simply relax will do you the world of good. While baby’s sleeping or the other half is taking one for the team, aim to do the below suggestions at least once a week. 🔸Close your eyes and focus on you’re breathing or listen to your favourite music. Apps such as Calm and Headspace are fantastic tools to aid meditation, especially for beginners.
🔸Have a long soak in the tub. Use your best bubble bath or oils and enjoy just being.
🔸File and paint your nails, especially now that you can reach your toes again!
🔸Have a pamper evening and get the other half involved with face masks and hand massages.
🔸Go for a walk. Daily walks can help reduce stress and the fresh air will also help baby sleep.
🔸Stretching and yoga. Our baby yoga classes provide a distraction-free hour of special bonding time for you and baby while aiding their development and giving you a gentle stretch and a special time for relaxation.
🔸Book a massage. If there’s ever a time a massage is needed more, this is it, right?!
🔸Talking and sharing any worries can help enormously with any stress and frustration you may feel, helping you to relax.
🔸Hire a cleaner. Even if its just for the first few months, banish that dread of having to clean your home for every visitor that wants to meet your new baby and revel in the bliss of not having to worry about it!

In this age of celebrity and ‘insta’ mums, there is a lot of pressure to simply ‘snap back’ to our pre-baby figures, but our bodies are not elastic bands that will simply snap back. Growing a baby reconfigures our internal structure so we need to appreciate that it takes time for things to go back to normal inside before we can even think about honing those abs. In our classes, we include gentle movements and stretches for mums too, to help aid post natal recovery and bring those essential tummy muscles back together. This week has been exceptionally challenging. I think I've broken down about 3 times. I've picked myself back up every time after having a good old cry ... but it's been tough.
I'm not afraid to admit I'm not perfect . I'm not ashamed to admit that I have postnatal depression. It's hard to keep my shit together sometimes and sometimes it can get a little too much. In between cooking, ironing, cleaning, washing, sweeping, vacuuming, folding/putting away, bathing, working our actual day job also... I sometimes forget to tell myself it's okay... take a breath .. or 3.
It's okay fo feel like you're not enough or that you cant handle it all... but guess what?? You can. You created and grew a little human. You're superwoman!!!

I was invited to speak to the group about the pelvic floor and pelvic floor physiotherapy, and by the end of the talk, all the moms left with more awareness on conditions like diastasis rectus abdominis, prolapse, incontinence, and sexual dysfunction post-partum. ⠀

I honestly believe that with all of us that are out there, spreading awareness, educating, and empowering women with knowledge on these women's health issues, that the incidences of these conditions will reduce in our lifetime, and all of our efforts will be paid off! 🌎🌎⠀

Day 4 - I’m at the inlaws apartment today, and while packing 101 things for Kai it would have been easy to flag my workout today and put it in the too hard basket.

But NOPE I threw my band and tube in and we rocked out this quick workout, which also warmed me up on this cold day.

➡️You really love to run. The mental health benefits from running are key for you to function in your life. .

➡️You have developed a solid base of strength, endurance, and function in the trunk, pelvic floor, and your body as a whole. .

➡️You are not experiencing any regular incontinence with daily activities or with exercise.

➡️Any degree of pelvic organ prolapse is well managed. .
.
➡️You have a good understanding of breathing and alignment strategies and know how to use them well to coordinate your body with movement and to help generate speed and power. .
.
➡️You have been doing CONSISTENT postnatal specific strength training workouts, 1-3 days per week, for at least 6-8 weeks. .
.
➡️Any Diastasis Recti is well healed and you are able to generate good tone and tension in the linea alba. .
.
➡️RECOMMENDED: You have been assessed by a pelvic floor physiotherapist who has cleared you for running. .
.
✨IF you do experience an increase in pain and/symptoms during your return to running, please reach out so we can troubleshoot and make the necessary modifications to your plan or strategies you’re using to return to running postpartum 🙋‍♀️

Straight back into it!! I landed home last night to a busy evening of work 🤓🤓 .
I was kept busy going through lots of emails and scheduling acupuncture clients. I also prepared 5 Welcome Packs for placenta clients who booked while I was away 💊💊 It was a heavy trip to the post office 😉 .

Here we are at 2 weeks postpartum tomorrow. 
My body has recovered much quicker this time and I think the main reason is because I didn’t over do it during pregnancy. With Sonny my first baby I was scared of what pregnancy would do to my body so I tried to keep up high standards. I would often force myself to go to the gym, even though I felt like crap. This time I trained roughly 2-3 times a week and very much went on how I felt that day. By no means did I force myself to train, I did as much or as little as I felt like that day. I also ate really well and made sure I got rest when I needed.
Result was that I didn’t have as much swelling/water retention, no colds or infections and by the end I still felt extremely fit and able (for someone whose 9 months pregnant that is!)
Moral of the story: Don’t be afraid that during pregnancy you’ll ‘lose your fitness or lose your body’ Stay active (if you can) train within your limits and listen to your body, it probably knows what it needs better than you do. Do be mindful of what you eat, I think this is really key. I followed a clean diet like I always do. Occasional treats and I definitely I ate more than usual however it was all good nutritious food that my body needed. After a baby, we can get a few months down the line and feel like we’re past the ‘recovery’ stage...we’re getting more sleep, we’ve found our groove with feeding and napping and getting out and about, and everything starts to feel a bit more ‘normal’. So it’s natural to think you can do things (and workouts) that we were fully capable of pre-pregnancy. .
However, I harp on a lot about how long our bodies take to recover not just from birth but from the changes that take place in pregnancy too: the stretching of the abdominal wall, the pressure on the pelvic floor and the postural adaptations that occur due to the loosening of the ligaments around our joints. Recent research shows that even despite all the best intentions, the after effect of the hormonal changes in our bodies can take up to EIGHTEEN MONTHS to settle down - whether we like it or not! .
So before you pick up that kettlebell, or those battleropes, or those boxing gloves - please weigh up the risks and rewards of doing so, and take a step to tune into your body to work out if you’re ready. .
Exercise like boxing, kettlebell swings, battleropes and squat jumps are all examples of ‘ballistic movements’, which are defined as those ‘that require the central nervous system to coordinate and produce the greatest amount of force in the shortest amount of time’ - and they don’t discriminate, the recovering abdominal wall and pelvic floor will be required to withstand a huge amount of pressure from the force you’re generating...

And because these movements are often fast, you won’t have time to assess whether you’re maintaining a strong pelvic floor connection or to notice if you’re ‘troughing’ or ‘doming’. .
If you WANT to incorporate these movements in your workouts again, the smartest thing you can do is get assessed: by a women’s health physio or a well qualified postnatal PT who can gauge where YOU and your core are at and give you an educated opinion on whether you’re ready to try them and they can effectively plan a programme that builds you up to these sorts of exercises. .
You don’t want to find out the hard way that you weren’t ready. .

Glut band squats: squats are fantastic during pregnancy and postnatally (from 6 weeks) to maintain and further strengthen the glut (butt) muscles to aid them in supporting your bump, back and pelvis at this time.

I love seeing kids exercising to my workouts. I even once had a mom tell me her son would take off his shirt when they did my Sweat UNLIMITED workout (because the guy in it with me is shirtless). LOL

New mom of 4 @danielle.s.allen sent me these videos of her kids working out to my #4thTrimesterWorkout. I love how her daughter is so focused as she works on her balance (one of the best ways to work on core strength) and how all of the kids are doing their bridge variations (as they unknowingly strengthen their glutes). In my opinion, this is one of the best ways to show kids that exercising can be fun. Oh, and a big shout out to Danielle on baby #4!

It always astonishes me when I see what statistics say about how many women suffer from PND. Always bare in mind that these number only include mothers who came forward. But do we have any idea how many of them did not? I truly believe that if the statistics could be more accurate (I understand they cannot be, of course), we would be blown away by the real numbers... 🙏💗 #mums_journey #postpartumhealth #fourthtrimester #postnatalhealth
