When my expectations of joy and light, gave way to feelings of darkness and despair, 
I fell. 
Deeper and deeper the hole opened wide,
Further and further I plunged, from the most terrible thoughts I couldn’t hide. 
It wasn’t just sadness, it wasn’t just fear; 
Thoughts of anguish, guilt and failure were all I could hear. 
To sleep was what I wanted; forever if I could, 
Maternal mental health issues are so very real, yet so very misunderstood. 
I’m not ungrateful, lazy, selfish or unkind,
I’ve been wrestling with an illness - one that took over my mind. 
Seeking help was my only choice, I needed to fight for my little boy, this beautiful life now in my hands. 
For months I had to focus entirely on healing myself, which I know for some, was hard to understand. 
Eventually; with treatment, therapy and incredibly hard work, 
I started to smile again, although the darkness would sometimes still lurk. 
Who is my life, my light, my reason to prove that I can be strong? 
It is you, my baby Isaac, it is through you that the light truly shone. 
Ultimately, this journey has involved more love than I thought my heart could take. 
In every sense of the word, motherhood has shown me what it truly means, to be awake 💕

Delicious Breastfeeding Smoothie.⠀

This smoothie is quick, easy and packed with natural nutrition your body needs to replenish during breastfeeding. Such a fantastic way to nourish yourself when time is tight, or multitasking during a feed. ⠀
Quantities and ingredients are really flexible based on what you like. You can peel and chop fruit (even avocado!) and pop into the freezer, ready to grab and simply blend. And it’s not meant to replace meals by any means, however pose a a nourishing snacks between meals, to up the ante in terms of nutrient intake and keep blood sugar levels stable. ⠀

1 small banana⠀
1/2 cup frozen berries⠀
1 tbsp avocado⠀
2 tbsp rolled oats⠀
1 cup unsweetened cashew milk (or 1/4 cup whole raw cashew nuts + 1 cup water)⠀
1 tsp brewers yeast⠀
1 tsp flaxseeds (or other seeds)⠀
1/2 tsp virgin coconut oil⠀
Optional: cinnamon, honey, raw cacao powder, plant based clean protein powder, collagen powder, spinach, whatever you feel like.⠀
Simple place in a blender and whizz until smooth and creamy. Enjoy!⠀

It’s the end of another day, the moon has come out to play. Illuminating the sky like a dancing light, here we have returned to the dreaded mental fight.

The baby is down, he has gone to sleep, and here I am fighting the urge to weep. Guilt consumes my mind like fire, burning rapidly, my mind a liar. I can say that now you see, a moment of clarity has embraced me. Soon enough though, it will happen again.

The loud taunting closer than a friend and yet I know this is but for a moment. You see, as thick and dark as the days might get, our abilities grow step by step. 🖤🖤🖤
Once upon a time the storm clouds would roar, now they don’t stand a chance because you have defeated them before. 🖤🖤🖤
The sun comes up, the sun goes down and your strength is built on solid ground. 🖤🖤🖤
Motherhood is this whirlwind you see, a sense of inadequacy can follow both you and me, but we know the ground on which we stand, a love so strong, if push came to shove, we could kill a man.

So sure, you may of stuffed up today, yesterday or the day before and you probably will some more. However, your ability to nurture and help our little people grow is what counts when your feeling low. 🖤🖤🖤

Since finding out we're expecting #2, I've been super quite on all social media fronts. My content has seriously stopped 🤦 So much has happened in the last 4 months all unexpectedly, including packing up and moving states! 
But mostly a lot of fear and anexity has creeped back in about this pregnancy and how my injuries from my first birth will hold up throughout/during and after pregnancy & birth! On top of that i can't believe how quickly your body changes the second time around, it was like the moment i peed on a stick my body was like yep bang you're  pregnant cue all body changes NOW! 
So yep a lot of mental f@$kiness has been going on and im working on that daily now and just trying to control what i can control.. I aim to keep it as honest and real as possible on my IG account so there you have it! 
Now who would be intrested on seeing my journey with #pelvicfloordysfunction throughout and after? Workouts? Food? Wellbeing? Motherhood? Self love?

Sadly on 30th Oct i went into premature labour at 27+6, my waters broke and little did we know I got an infection in my waters but didn't know until the emergency Cesaerean on 2nd November revealed all, Shylo was a good weight for 28wks 2days at 2lb 14oz but sadly he had 3 heart attacks from E-Coli Septicaemia and died at only 7 hours old.

Have you’ve ever compared your body in pre-pregnancy pictures to post-baby shots of you looking rounder, softer and ‘still pregnant’? .
The thought may have crossed your mind that #pregnancy wrecked your body. You’d kinda love to have those toned #abs back and not the ‘mummy tummy’ that’s appeared there instead.

But #DiastasisRecti (abdominal separation) – the reason your #tummy won’t lie flat – is not caused entirely by pregnancy. Pregnancy just made it obvious and pushed it wider. It’s a symptom of high pressure in the #abdomen and it can be fixed, or at least greatly improved.
Lowering the pressure is essential. You can’t firm up the midline of your abs, nor can you solve other pressure-related problems (such as pelvic organ prolapse, hernia, varicose veins and hemorrhoids) without tackling the root cause.

The way to return intra-abdominal pressure is to realign your whole body and iron out any kinks in the way that your body sits, stands, walks and moves.
.
I’m not talking about standing tall, pulling your shoulders back and walking around with a book balanced on your head! Alignment is not the same as posture and getting it right may involve retraining your body after years of carrying it ‘wrong’.

There isn’t one trick, or one set of exercises that ‘cures’ diastasis recti. There are a number of ‘fixes’ that work together:
.
• Proper alignment of your full body
• Breathing fully into the back of your ribs (costal breathing) rather than your belly or up in your collarbone
• Connecting with and engaging your pelvic floor and transverse abdominis muscles
• Doing focused, gentle, safe core exercise that respects your mama body
• Eating the right food that nourishes your body and helps it heal

Alignment alone is not going to kiss your ‘the gap’ goodbye! But without it, the healing process can’t even get started.

I ordered this almost exactly one year ago,  when I was pregnant for the third time and approaching 12 weeks. The furthest we'd gotten after 2 previous miscarriages at 8 weeks.

I was thinking positively, that this pregnancy was going to progress.
.
I wasn't totally naive in assuming we were 'safe' just because we were just about out of the first trimester. I know all too well that there is no 'safe' time.
.
Unfortunately this beautiful artwork arrived just around the time I miscarried. For the third time. I threw it in a drawer and occasionally would catch a glimpse over the year that followed,  hoping I could wear it one day with a pregnant belly under there.
.
Today, almost exactly 1 year later I decided to retrieve it from the depths of that drawer. This photo is me today. Fourth pregnancy and 21 weeks pregnant. I still can't believe that this is happening. And after everything I feel so fortunate that we get to do this.
.
I still have my moments of concern and doubt, but thankfully they have started to become less frequent over the last few weeks.
.
I have a lot of self-care in place so I don't spiral into too much doubt or too often. I even listen to my own pregnancy after loss guided meditation,  which helps. Yoga and movement, saying no to anything that is too much, resting as much as possible in the later afternoons and evenings, eating good food (& also some occasional splurges, like some beautiful lemon curd ice cream yesterday), seeing all my different practitioners, and whatever else it takes to make me and this baby a priority.

I look forward to properly filling out this (size large!) top as we progress over the next 4 or so months. What a rollercoaster.💛

My advice to a newly expecting mom:
EMBRACE cluster feeding (it won’t spoil your baby- and it won’t last forever)
Sleep train once they can sleep through the night (first 3 nights are tough- but it’s so WORTH IT!)
Give as many kisses and hugs as possible- they don’t cost anything and are the best gift in the world you can give a child❤️

Why is it as mothers, we feel so super responsible? I think it’s in our DNA. We love, we care, we are Mama Bears. I know, it’s taken me years to let go and rest, to delegate, to let it go, to trust that even if it isn’t done ‘perfectly’ (read, MY way), that’s OK. 
If you are finding it difficult to rest, try making a list of all the things you do – this could take a while, just keep a note pad handy or tap your list into your phone. Now what can you delete? What can you delegate? What can you simplify? 
Now, mama, rest for a while, whatever this is for you. It might be sitting in the sunshine while your little ones play; it could be a warm drink – while it’s still warm; it could be a nap with your baby. Switch off your phone, take a break from other people’s problems, let your kids sort some things out for themselves. ‘All. The. Things.’ will be waiting for you, right where you left them, when you have finished your rest. But you will be replenished. You will have new energy and a new perspective.

See, when River was born he had jaundice, I was told to wake him to feed every 3 hours to flush out the jaundice. 
So, I had an alarm on my phone that would go off every 3 hours around the clock! to remind us that it was feeding time. Because of the jaundice, River would fall asleep very easily while feeding, a feed would take 45min - an hour and a half! Just one week tomorrow until I go out on my first placement as a student Midwife. I am super excited, even more so that it’s community, which is where I would love to work once qualified. 
Although as a student Nurse last year, I went out on 3 placements and had a community placement in that, I can’t help but look back and compare my feelings towards placement then, to placement now. I had lots of travelling to do to and from placements and although I enjoyed it, I just knew it wasn’t where I wanted to be in the future. But now, I know I am exactly where I belong!!
