“Millar!” David Tennant is pretty damn good as Alec Hardy in "Broadchurch", a series I've now binge-watched on Netflix. There's something about British crime dramas - I think it's more a focus on suspense versus drama. And the characters are usually so well written; layered, flawed, you can't help but get drawn in. Anyways, I've been hooked. I think of others like "The Missing" and "Safe". Not widely known in North America, Tennant has had a massive following in his native U.K.. He was the Tenth Doctor in the cult Brit classic "Doctor Who" (2008) which never really took off in N.America - guessing there's a difference in tastes when it comes to sci-fi. During the same time, he also rocked the West End theatre as the lead in the Royal Shakespeare Company's production of "Hamlet" - the most coveted of Shakespearean roles.
Little known fact: Tennant was influenced by the Pet Shop Boys. Not musically, but by lead singer Neil Tennant; whose last name, David Tennant would abscond. The latter was born David McDonald. The reason for the name change - there was already a David McDonald registered in the actors' guild.
