Every artist learns from drawing their own face. This is not an act of self-love, but rather a question of availability of models. We can practice drawing/painting ourselves from life at all times of the day. Since we first learn how to create through our own face, it's almost as if we find our face in other things in order to manifest/understand them. An artist sees themselves in everything they decide to "copy." First we memorize our face, then our face in things, after we've memorized this, that's when we begin to create not by copying with our eyes, but by copying from our minds.
