hey guysss 🍂
i’m starting this account because brendon is the most inspirational person for me. I look up to absolutely everything he does. I want to be a music artist one day and I think that’s why I feel so connected to him. He sets the best example by acting amazingly and making bomb ass music.
I’m really enjoying going through the Drive-Thru Records catalog. A lot of good music and a lot of nostalgia. Minus Midtown, Senses Fail, and The Starting Line, #Finch were my favorites. #WhatItIsToBurn#DriveThruRecords#PopPunk

Day 12: Russ Rankin
Sometimes you find straight-edge inspiration in unexpected places. Before I had heard Good Riddance I had made some assumptions about them because of the record label they were on...not necessarily negative assumptions, but I didn’t expect anything that stood out from the “melodic pop punk about girls” genre that was so ubiquitous at the time. When I finally did give them a listen I was blown away, not only did Good Riddance write excellently catchy pop songs, they wrote melodic ballads, they wrote anthems, they wrote crunchy youth crew songs, they wrote pile@on mosh songs. Some GR records feel like a really good mixtape of at least three different bands and I really love that about them. Russ’ lyrics felt alternately personal and vulnerable and pissed off. I remember reading his essay in Ballads From The Revolution reflecting on getting older in punk (I think he was 35 at the time, lol) but back then it felt so far away, and I remember trying to imagine my future. Would I still be punk? Would I still hold on to my ideals and live by the same standards? Will this music still mean anything to me years from now? Well now I’m on the other side of 40 and I can honestly say it does. Thanks Russ for helping me look forward and not back.
