Looking for the perfect dish to impress your friends? This salmon tataki is ready in a few minutes and taste phenomenal 😋 Recipe below👇
SALMON TATAKI | Serves 2
250g (oz) salmon, sushi quality
1 tbsp sesame oil
2 tbsp sesame seeds
(mix between black and white seeds optional)
1 tbsp canola oil
1 fennel, thinly sliced
1 celery stalk, chopped
1/2 apple, thinly sliced
1 tbsp creme fraiche
1 tbsp mayonnaise
1 tbsp dijon mustard
juice from 1/2 lemon
1 tsp salt
1 tsp pepper
2 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp rice vinegar
1 tbsp hoisin sauce
juice from 1/2 lime
1/2 chilli, minced
1 clove garlic, minced
1 tsp ginger, minced
1 tsp sugar
1 tbsp cilantro, chopped
1️⃣ Start with the fennel slaw. Mix all ingredients in a bowl and season with salt and pepper. Set aside.
2️⃣ Pour sesame oil over the salmon and make sure it’s covered with the oil. Dip into the sesame seed mixture and make sure all sides are covered with seeds.
3️⃣ Heat the canola oil in a pan on high heat. Quickly sear the salmon on all sides. Transfer salmon to a chopping board and slice in thin slices.
4️⃣ Mix all the ingredients for the ponzu sauce together in a bowl. Plate the sliced salmon and fennel slaw on a plate and enjoy!
👨🍳 Put the tataki in the fridge for 2 hours after cooking to ensure even better result when slicing the salmon (I couldn’t do that in vid because of daylight fades away)🍣
👨🍳 Chillimayo also goes really well with salmon tataki 😋
A while back, I grabbed dinner with my dear friend, Nikki, at Go Fish Poke Bar in Stanford Shopping Center. This is a place that Nikki frequents. While she is a true regular, I was a first timer. This is pretty similar to most Poke places. I made my own bowl, but it wasn’t very good. I just didn’t really like the flavors of their sauces or their pre-made combos. I prefer the ones they have at pokéLOVE. That being said, I don’t think it’s bad. I just have a different preference when it comes to flavors. I think the fish here was still pretty fresh and their toppings were pretty good. I do think that pokéLOVE offers more options though, but I haven’t counted, so I’m not 100% sure. Overall, I would probably go to pokéLOVE over Go Fish, but only because of personal preferences in taste.
