As a visual-dominant thinker, there are boundless images and visual concepts within my mind that cannot yet be brought to fruition due to my lack of the required motor skills (i.e painting, drawing). As I continue to fail in my efforts to employ words to describe arcane visuospatial ideas I've stored within, it's possible that I'll eventually accrue enough motivation to develop and hone these artistic abilities. It's also possible that I'll irrationally rationalize myself away from cashing in the aforementioned motivation and never advance these abilities as a result.
So, in an amateurish effort to combat my over-rationalizing and overthinking thought patterns, I created "Still". During the process of creating this piece, I was able to genuinely understand that the beauty of artistic expression is that there's no requisite level of complexity required in order to convey a meaningful and inspiring message. "Still" is my first acrylic on canvas, and as aesthetically simple as it may be, it's meaning and substance is what deeply resonates. Still was created as a daily reminder for me to take a moment to "pause" amidst my orderly and/or hyper-chaotic psychological states, and to find the headspace that allows me to connect with my breath and, ultimately, realign myself with one of my core truths: I am the thinker of my thoughts as opposed to the thoughts that I think.
Contrary to Decartes' "I think, therefore I am" philosophy, I postulate that "I am, therefore I think." More to follow...
I can't pull your heart together with just my voice alone
A thousand shards of glass I came to meet you in
You cut the peace out of me
And as you ripped it all apart,
That's when I turned to watch you
And as the light in you went dark
I saw you turn to shadow
If you would salvage some part of you that once knew love
This was your choice - you let it in
This double life you lead is eating you up from within
A thousand shards of glass you pushed beneath my skin
And left me lying there to bleed
And as you showed me your scars
I only held you closer
But as the light in you went dark I saw you turn over
I wanted always to be there for you and close to you
When you are the dreamer, don't listen to darkness. Follow your likes and favorites, take cookies and candies. Play with kids, stay with the old. Sing on top of your voice. Cram the National Anthem. Swallow your pride. Dream on. Be creative. Love everyone. Do you always. Love who you love. Know your roots. Know your language. Pride in your culture. Seek your roots. Love your leaders.
A journey to be a star sometimes starts with a scar. No champion is ever humble. Strive to be one.
This is the ongoing session.
#you are a child of the universe. No less than the trees and the stars. You have a right to be here.
