NetWorks is a collaboration between global carpet tile manufacturer Interface and the Zoological Society of London. It redesigns global supply chains to create sustainable and scalable solutions that reduce marine plastic, increase fish stocks and improve the lives of marginalized coastal communities living in biodiversity hotspots of developing countries. They connect these communities to global brands via a fair and inclusive business model that delivers ‘less plastic, more fish’ and have collected and recycled 195 metric tonnes of nets so far. NetWorks are now building an ecological and inclusive seaweed supply chain for seaweed extract in Southeast Asia which is directly linked to measures that replenish fish stocks and avert the risk of seaweed becoming the palm oil of the sea.
So ready for the festival season!! Here's a flashback from @queenscliff_music_festival 2 years ago just to remind you that outfits aren't for a season, they're for a lifetime.
Choose wisely, style well and care for your clothes.
Easing you in gently to our holiday tips with a great inspiring story from Lucie who reduced her recycling waste by HALF by simply saying no to the top four single-use plastics: plastic bags, water bottles, takeaway coffee cups and plastic straws.
Why not set yourself this challenge over the festive period too? .
Top tip: Try taking a ‘reusable’ kit wherever you go (this could make a great Christmas present for friends and family as well) .
Ood morning world💚
Be nice to mother nature... use glass straws just like @sammyjaneeason - DAT GLASS 🥤
put my glass straw from @wisdomsupply.co to use this morning.
are you participating in #plasticfreejuly ? i’ve found that unfortunately it’s not completely unavoidable. someone messaged me the other day and asked how i was replacing trash bags, i’m not. since isaac is still in diapers i’m not even sure how i wouldn’t handle that situation (attempted cloth diapers in the beginning and it’s not for us). but once my kids are older we plan to mainly recycle and compost ♻️
p.s. new @blueprintcoffee location is like a little piece of california in stl #blessed
hope today is good to you! #motherofchunk#strawlesscocktailweek

When you've got awesome friends, you've found something special. But making friends as an adult is also hard. Keeping your friends is maybe even harder if you've become aware to any, or all, of the problems around you. If you see your friends consistently use plastics when you're trying really hard to not and you kind of want to rage a bit at that plastic bag they just took to the party. If you're a vegan or vegetarian and you notice all the supermarket, factory farmed meat in lunches and dinners. If you're attending climate change rallies and your parental friends keep buying big houses, more cars and more stuff. If you're advocating for environmental justice but those around you aren't doing anything to dismantle racism. It can be really painful to watch all this (even as non-perfect humans ourselves). And if you do struggle a bit, we feel you big-hearted human! It can be a pretty disheartening, infuriating or lonely feeling at times.
It's not our job to change our friends of course, and we still need to have a whole lot of laughter & fun together, but it is our responsibility to be good allies and given we're in a bit of an emergency with the world, probably a time to take a bit more action?
What do you think? Have you ever felt any of this or don't mind too much? Do you ignore things with friends or bring it up? What have you found works or not? Have any friendships ended or slowly drifted? Only have a bunch of amazing friends that care about everything you do too and act on it? Had some friends totally get on board with an action or had no idea about something until you shared your experience? Let's get it all off our chests! Share your stories good and bad - we are in this together!

___ Old clothes make great Christmas Wrap 🎁 Instead of buying new Christmas wrap- ping paper this year, try furoshiki - the Japanese practise of wrapping with cloth. There are
plenty of easy tutorials on Youtube, and it’s a great way to reuse old clothing that’s not good enough for charity stores.
Have you tried furoshiki? Do you have any other great sustainable ideas or alternatives for Christmas wrapping? 🌿🌿🌿

Did you know most tea bags contain plastics? Using a tea infuser is an easy solution to skip producing tea bags as a waste in general, and plastic waste in particular. Also they are much cuter than single-use tea bags! aren't they?
. *Tea infuser
Some people take zero waste literally. They think I never produce any trash. Let me break it to you-that’s nonsense. I do make trash. For example, this is a bag of trash accumulated from my rented flat after my landlord did some renovations. It contains a lot of dust containing bits of paint & cement, tiny pieces of metal from old stuff, pieces of tarpaulin (micro plastic) that fly over from my neighbor’s roof and land on my terrace plus used brown tape. As far as I know, it is all non-recyclable, non-biodegradable and landfill bound. To some this may appear as not my trash. But I take responsibility for it because it ends up where I live. I also have other trash & waste. I still buy a few edible items in packaging every now and then. I keep these clean and stack them up in the hopes that I will find someone who will responsibly recycle ♻️ or upcycle them. I recognize and acknowledge that I live in a linear economy where some stuff will end up in the landfill no matter how much we reuse it. All we can do is intend for ‘zero’ waste but not obsess with it. It means minimizing our waste as much as we can. In the beginning of my journey, I kept a trash jar for a few months because I was fascinated with how much waste one could cut down. Soon I realized that it did not portray the full picture. While some found it motivating, others felt it was misleading. Now I understand that each object is designed for a purpose & a jar can be better used to serve my needs for storing food rather than accumulating trash. Also, in my opinion, I feel fitting one’s trash in a jar is an unrealistic standard to measure one’s intent to live sustainably. Sustainability goes beyond having a trash jar. It includes but is not restricted to active action against climate change (like eating local, flying less, using clean energy), building resilient communities, growing our own food, supporting small farmers, building compost toilets 🚽...the list is endless. We need to zoom out and look at the bigger picture. So, if you’re new to the zero waste movement please don’t take the zero literally. Do your best. Also, check out @bezerowastegirl & @greenindyblog who often address this issue.
