UPDATE: We officially no longer carry plastic straws at any of our outlets on campus. Executive Chef Tony proudly shows off our new biodegradable straws made from plant starch 🌱Help us reduce waste & save our oceans by saying no to a straw, or by choosing one of our compostable ones 🌊❤️#plasticfree#plasticfreejuly#strawssuck#uvicfoodie#uvic#yyj
Ok, I'm sold. From now on I will be using a mixture of baking soda and olive oil to remove any label residues from jars! Thank you, @_tidyguy for the "tutorial" 😄
All you've got to do is to make a paste, apply it to the residues, let sit over night and scrub it off! --

Last month I read about a whale that died because it had ingested 17 lbs worth of plastic bags. For five days veterinarians and conservationists tried to save the whale, but they could not. 😥
It makes me so sad to learn what we humans are doing to our oceans, and planet, and plastic use is one of the worst offenders.
A lot of the complaints I hear about meal prep services is the amount of packaging people have to throw away. With our Vita Kitchen meal service we use no plastic packaging. All of our containers are reusable pyrex and glass mason jars. We don’t make our customers throw anything away for us. Yes, it creates an added step of collecting and sanitizing work on our end, but the satisfaction we get from diverting waste to the landfill makes it worth it. 💪🏽 Still we’re not entirely #plasticfree just yet. We still use plastic vacuum bags for sous vide and cling wrap/ziplocks for storing foods. I hope to find a viable non-plastic alternative for both of these uses, and if anyone has suggestions please send them my way. ⚡️ One earth, one love. ❤️
.some major excitement here. .my beeswax wraps arrived. .favorite brand yet for me @abeillewraps , though I also love the @beeswaxandcotton and my sister has had success with @ (stay tuned for edit). .this is goals, coming into reality, for myself to move closer to plastic free. .where I live there is no recycling *beyond bottles/cans/tetrapacks and every choice counts. .so this is today's step in the right direction.
***this is not an add, just personal excitement*** #happydance#maildelivery#foodwraps#beeswaxwraps#plasticfree#plasticfreejuly#livenaturally
Please stop using plastic and opt for environmentally safe products. Also lets put an end to dumping our garbage and waste into our precious oceans. We don't realize we as human beings our destroying our own planet...saddest thing ive seen.

Did you know that the average woman will use 12,000 to 16,000 disposable menstrual products in their lifetime? And that it takes around 100 years for these to break down? So that means right this second, all those tampons and sanitary towels you’ve ever used are lying in our landfill or oceans. Lovely.
Don’t worry, you can have a plastic free period with the help of a few options!
One being the mooncup, literally instead of just absorbing your flow it collects it. They come with the option of two different sizes and you can wear it for up to eight hours, but if you’re in a public place just empty it into the toilet bowl and wipe clean with some tissue until you can properly clean it. These last years and are so cost effective.
Another option incase you’re more of a panty liner gal, is just reusable cotton liners. Basically just use them as you would if you had your usual option on and just wash them at the end of each day!
