Breakfast is my favourite meal of the day! This bowl of oats, soy protein and peanut butter keeps me full and tastes deliciously decadent but is actually good for me 💖 carbs to fuel my cells, protein for muscle growth and repair, and fats for my brain and hormones. Happy me!!!! 😊 .

Should you Cut Body Fat First or Focus on Building Muscle and Strength first?
What if you're skinny, but still a bit pudgy? What do you do then?

This is a question I get asked quite frequently from beginners who are just starting their fitness journey. 
_
_
If you're skinny fat, that means you have very little lean muscle mass, at same time high levels of body fat. 
Let's talk about how to go from this, to being strong and defined. (Low Levels body fat combined with higher levels of Lean muscle mass) 
_
_
Remember, as a natural weight trainee, your overall level of lean muscle mass is very closely correlated to how strong you are. 
To increase your body's muscle mass, focus on building strength on compound exercises. 
_
_
Adding more muscle to your frame, is the first step in fixing being skinny fat. 
As your strength is going up.. And as you're getting closer and closer to the intermediate strength standards layed out above, you will be significantly more muscular than you are currently. 
_
_
(Note: standards above are for exercise performed for 1 repetition, excluding Chin ups) 
_
_
Second part of equation to fixing skinny fat, is losing body fat.
 As you're getting stronger in your workouts, focus on slowly losing body fat with your nutrition. 
_
_
You lose body fat, by consuming less than calories than you burn per day.
So consume your current Bodyweight (lbs) x 10-12 per day. This equates to about 1 pound of weekly fat loss per week.
_
_
As you get closer and closer to the intermediate strength standards layed out above, while using a calorie deficit to strip off body fat..
You will soon become strong, muscular and defined. No more being skinny and fat at the same. 
_
_
Apply this strategy along with a plant based diet, for the best results possible. 👌🌱

1️⃣Heavy Compound Weight Lifting in the 5-10 Rep range in your workouts. 
Ditch the silly circuit workouts and sit ups. 
Learn how to perform compound exercises in your workouts. Deadlifts, squats, bench press, military press, dips etc. 
To get the most out of your workouts, focus on primarily compound exercises. You can lift weights 2-3 days per week.

2️⃣Moderate Weekly Fat loss. 
Don't consume super low calories in desperation to lose fat fast. 
Consume your body weight x 12 in calories per day. 
This equates to about 1 pound of fat loss per week.

3️⃣Lift Weights to get Stronger. As you're focusing on compound exercises in you workouts, focus on building strength. 
As you get stronger your muscles will grow in size and density.

Here's 4 Simple Tips to Recover Faster From Your Workouts 💪🌱

Recovery is an important topic that doesn't get discussed often. 
Before even thinking about your next workout, you want to make sure you're fully recovered from the previous session. 
_
_
That includes proper sleep (7-9 hrs), enough calories to support your training, and adequate protein intake. 
_
_
1️⃣Specifically your protein intake should be set to about 0.82g per pound of body weight. 
I have also gotten great results going slightly lower. But 0.82g is a great start if recovery seems to be an issue. 
This is not difficult to hit, as there are plenty of plant based protein sources available. Plant based protein powder is optional. 
Sufficient protein intake is essential part of the recovery process to rebuild muscle tissue broken down during your workouts.

2️⃣Stay hydrated. Which means during your workout, before and after. Do not forget this! 
_
_
3️⃣Eat More carbs. During your workouts you're depleting glycogen stores in your muscles. Replenish them post workout with a high intake of carbohydrates. Also carbs are essential to support training performance.

4️⃣Manage stress & relax! You can't expect to be fully recovered and ready for your next workout if you're stressed out. Remember weight training is essentially a "stresser" on your body. More stress on top that isn't doing you any good. So find ways to manage stress levels to ensure you recover well.

Once you're fully recovered, you can go into your next session feeling strong and rejuvenated. Able to push yourself with 100% intensity. Then repeat steps 1-4 until your next workout.

2️⃣Research. Take advantage of informative content. Read read read. Books, articles, listen to podcast, watch videos etc. Dive deep in all things plant based nutrition related. This will ensure a much more smoother transition from your current dietary habits to a diet without meat.

3️⃣Transition at your own pace. Change is quite difficult. Go easy on yourself give yourself time to form new dietary habits. 
_
_
Lastly don't seek perfection. Do your best to follow plant based dietary habits. Cut down meat consumption and taper down other animal products in your diet to the best of your ability. 
Aim to be atleast 70-80% plant based with your diet. 
Keep longterm adherence in mind.

Eventually your new found plant based dietary habits will be rock solid, and you will stick to a 100% plant based dietary habits with ease.

🍠 Baked Sweet Potato 🍠

For the best Baked Sweet Potato every time...

➸ Stab med-large potato with fork a few times, then place on baking tray and pop in oven.
➸ Once in oven turn up to 180° and leave for 45-60 mins depending on oven power - (Set timer) ** if still hard in the middle continue cooking for another 10-15 mins.
➸ After the time is up, turn off the heat and leave potato to sit inside oven for a further 30 mins to settle.
➸ Remove, slice open, smear coconut oil over fleshy part. Heaven is made 🥥

🍠 Baked Sweet Potato 🍠 - For the best Baked Sweet Potato every time... - ➸ Stab med-large potato with fork a few times, then place on baking tray and pop in oven. ➸ Once in oven turn up to 180° and leave for 45-60 mins depending on oven power - (Set timer) ** if still hard in the middle continue cooking for another 10-15 mins. ➸ After the time is up, turn off the heat and leave potato to sit inside oven for a further 30 mins to settle. ➸ Remove, slice open, smear coconut oil over fleshy part. Took a much needed rest day yesterday to hit it hard today with heavy curls (normal and hammer) for biceps, and some medicine ball push-ups and dual push downs for tricep focus. I focused on heavy weight and slowing down on the overall movement to add time under tension. Im already feeling much better after only a week. Let’s work!

You saw progress when you first started lifting weights but now.. Month after month, year after year goes by.. You just can't seem to be making any progress anymore! 
Chances are you  already have the nutrition part down.
You understand you need to be In caloric surplus, meaning eating slightly above calories your body burns per day to support muscle growth. (Bodyweight x15 + 300 calories)

You're likely already consuming sufficient  protein.
This is rather a training issue. 
You're doing something wrong with your workouts.
When you're new to weight lifting you can do whatever in the gym and still make progress.
AKA (Noob muscle gains)

But as you go past your first 4-6 months of lifting weights you have dial in your training to ensure you keep progressing.

Avoid the mistakes I mentioned above and you're already half way there!

1️⃣Track your lifts & chase strength progress. Remember your overall level of muscle mass is very closely correlated to how strong you are. So focus on strength in the 5-10 rep range on compound exercises. How are you going to build strength and know you're progressing without tracking your lifts? So track your lifts & chase strength!

2️⃣Follow a well structured training program. Don't aimlessly wonder around the gym and pick machines and exercises to do. Come in with a plan. Once you are following a proper plan improve your form on your compound exercises. This is will help you prevent injury and help you make strength gains faster leading to more muscle in the long run

3️⃣ Don't rely on motivation. Create a habit instead, and stay consistent.

So I’ve discovered a thing called soy curls and I’m in food love. I get the protein of tofu, but it has the texture of chicken. Today I decided to make a bbq soy curl with chili. This is the second meal I’ve had bbq and I’m not even sorry about it. This hit the spot and it filled me up! I love soups, chilis, and stews and winter lets me eat them all the time.

Being vulnerable with words has always come naturally to me. Embracing my sexuality and body has not. I’m not going to say the only way you’ll feel comfortable in your skin is when you can throw a bathing suit on and not feel shame or embarrassment. That feeling comes and goes whether we want it to or not. Falling in love with your body begins with accepting every curve, scar, lump, and bump that is you and respecting your body in all of its states. This love comes when you aren’t afraid to show your confidence. It comes when you are willing to share that beauty with others in the hopes that they will too. The hurt ends when the shame from wandering eyes and past experiences have been put to rest, the embarrassment has subsided, and the love for yourself has re-written the image you had of yourself.
You not only welcome your differences but you allow them to shape you as a human moving forward.

It’s okay to have a day or two where you say screw it and eat 10 boxes of Oreos. I did this set of incline Dumbbell Press earlier this evening and filmed it. 
Performed  exercise under very sub optimal conditions. 
Sleep deprived (on 3 hours sleep), after a 2.5 hour final exam, stressed, and on low calorie intake. Basically running on fumes lol.. But somehow  managed to get 5 Sets.

Wasn't a 100% satisfied with the set quality. Lost a couple reps I did last workout, the initial rep felt a lot more difficult than usual, and could gone slightly lower. 
but the reality is not every set will be perfect every single workout. 🤷‍♂️ _

Anyways, I recently switched from Incline Barbell Press to Db Press due to strength plateau.

My training protocol is as follows: 
I warm up and start heavy, in the (2-5) rep range and finish in (8-10) rep ranges. 
Resting 3 min between the set. 
Every set is slow and controlled. 
This workout I did: 
90's x 2 reps 
85's x 4 reps (shown in this clip)
85's x 4 reps 
80's x 7 reps 
75's x 10 reps

Going to focus on keeping Weight the same and go slightly lower next workout. But still felt it insanely hard on my chest on this set as well. 
The Goal is to build up to 90's x 5-6 reps and eventually 100's dumbbells for 3-5 reps.

Find time to meditate or do something calm to get collected before the day ahead, it helps keep your brain from getting too overwhelmed or confused. The mind needs calmness/stillness or it just gets all cluttered and clouded. 
Body/mind/soul need to be working in union with one another, you need to be present 
in what you do and who you are. 💯

Well it's Final exam week in university and for those of you that are students, this is often a very stressful time... 😅

On top of that throwing in intense weight training sessions can increase overall stress levels. 
Taking a week, to lower the overall intensity or volume of your workouts is a smart idea. 
_
_
That's basically what deloading is. Just a fancy way of saying reducing either the intensity of training or overall training volume. (sets/reps/exercises)
_
My lifestyle currently is relatively low stress other than finals week, so I typically take 2-3 deload weeks every third training cycle. (12-16 weeks) 
Sometimes on vacation, or during final exam week. 
_
So how do you do it? You can do it one 3 ways:
_

1️⃣Reduce Training volume. 
Simply cutting out the last set of every exercise you do. 
_
_
2️⃣Lower the intensity. Stopping a rep shy of failure on your heaviest set of an exercise. Leaving a rep or two in the tank for next week. 
_
_
3️⃣Or Simply doing 1 workout less. If you train 3 days per week, deload week you may only do 2 training sessions. While keeping everything else same. This is my favorite way to do it.

Today has been a hectic one again! I woke up made brunch, took a walk, and then spent all day finishing painting and cleaning my whole house. That took until now so once again I was searching for something quick. I had a ton of calories left so I decided it would be okay to eat a @beyondmeat burger. I took the patty, split it in half, and cooked them to make a double decker sandwich and YUMMY! It was definitely a success. We also made some homemade air-fryer fries but they weren’t done yet so I didn’t get a picture.
