We often get asked the question, why should we switch to refilling our products instead of the convenience of just going to the grocery store and buying another one? The answer comes down to, what is the impact you would like to have on this planet? Since June we have help individuals divert the equivalent of 1500 containers of soap, cleaner, and body care products. Those are all single use items that could have ended up in landfills or could have made their way into our environment to never disappear. Because the truth is, plastic never truly goes away or is reused when it is recycled. It will always remain on this planet breaking down in to small pieces and finally into tiny particles. So even when it doesn't feel like a lot, one single use purchase here and another there all adds up when so many people are doing the same.

Low waste pancakes today 🥞 and why cheap plastic kitchen ware sucks. Syrup added after the photo-op.
If you have cheap plastic kitchenware: 1.) it is not a bad thing that you own it. It can sometimes be your only option in terms of what’s in stock at the store and/or the price of it. Do not feel like you’re a bad person because you have it. However, if you are going to buy kitchenware, getting metal ones secondhand is usually a cheaper & better route 2.) please be careful with it (not like, use it gently, I mean keep an eye on its quality). As you can see here, this spatula is coming apart and I could have ate that piece. Make sure you see what shape it’s in to see if anything is breaking off.
How you can dispose of a little piece like that and not risk other animals eating it 🤷♀️ the only thing I can think of is a little jar for tiny plastic bits - if you have other ideas please share!
What sort of world are we leaving for those who follow? A clean ocean? Or a world filled with plastic? Join us in the movement to reverse our path and our bad habits, so we can smile about the changes we made when we had the opportunity 💙 #reverseocean#naeco
Between 4.8 and 12.7 billion kilograms of plastic enter the oceans EVERY year.
Of all plastic ever made, are 42% used for packing.
Only about 9% of ALL plastics produced were recycled.
That‘s only a little information.
my family decided to invest in some veggio bags from @carrinetuk this weekend!! these are so useful to reduce single use plastics as when buying loose veggies. unfortunately, around where we live there isn’t a bulk buying shop so I think these bags are useful for anyone in the same position -lily
Its easy for sea turtles to mistake plastic bags for jellyfish and fishing nets for seaweed, but these innocent mistakes often end up deadly for these majestic creatures.💀🐢Sometimes its hard to visualize the negative impact of plastic on our environment. Think of this beautiful creature suffocated on what it thought was food and then think twice. There are real consequences to our decisions, even if they are not right in front of our face every day. 😥
According to statistics, plastic production and consumption are predicted to double over the next 10 years! 👎 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
That means that if we don’t do something now, we could be facing 250 million metric tons in the ocean in less than 10 years. 🌊
From the tiniest plankton to the largest whales, plastics impact nearly 700 species in our ocean. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The clock is ticking , we must reflect and change our habits and consumption before plastic overwhelms the ocean! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I really could not find the right emojis to use for this week so these will have to do! Shoutout to my mum for using jars whenever she gets grains! Using jars instead of plastic for your grains is a great alternative for the environment and they make your pantry look super organized. You can get a bunch of jars of different sizes at vintage and thrift stores for really cheap (double win for the environment)! I know carrying so many jars to the store can be daunting but there are also reusable bags (with the mesh part being small enough that the grains don’t fall) you can bring to ease off the load! 💛

The effects of palm oil production are not going to disappear overnight; they could end beautiful animal's lives and see the extinction of endangered species such as these gorgeous orangutans. With over 200 names for this lethal oil, it can be difficult to track your usage in order to cut down. We encourage you to take extra care in buying organically and palm oil free in order to do your part in combatting palm oil. ~ Cherry

7-DAY PLASTICS CHALLENGE
HOW IT WORKS
The challenge is pretty simple. Over the course of 1 week, take picture and hashtag: #plasticfreeYU and tag one friend how many times you: -Don’t take a plastic straw and drink directly from the cup.
-Fill up and reuse your water bottle.
-Choose reusable shopping bags.
Why not give it a shot? You'll be doing a great thing for the ocean. By one estimate, over five trillion pieces of plastic are afloat in our seas. All that garbage is a serious problem for wildlife. Animals, like sea turtles, birds, and fish, may get tangled in it or mistake it for food. It can even impact people, as the chemicals from plastics travel up the food chain.
But you can do something about it.
We'll check in at the end of the challenge to see how it’s going and collect your results. That way we can keep a running tally of how much plastic we’ve saved.
Our group's first cleanup saw three volunteers pick up 115.4lbs of trash in three hours at Kalmus Beach, Hyannis, plus one newspaper vending machine. Here's the final tally:
Juul Packs: 17
Cigarette Pack: 6
Cigarette Butts : 229
Fishing Gear: 33
Plastic Bags: 69
Food Wrappers: 413
Pl. Food Container: 38
St. Food Container: 11
Bottle Caps: 50
Plastic Bottles: 62
Glass Bottles: 50
Cups, Plates: 55
Micro Plastic/Foam: 408
Personal Hygiene: 20
Dog Waste Bag: 6
Other Packaging: 61
Other Trash: 160
Have any suggestions for a cleanup site on Cape Cod? Let us know in the comments and we'll add it to our list of upcoming events.
This is Germany. Did you know that Germany recycles more than any other country in the world? They reuse more than 50% of their waste, and are legally obliged to collect compost since 2015. All supermarkets must offer to get rid of any packaging that is not easily recyclable. New landfill sites have been banned since 2005, and they aim to stop any waste being sent to landfill by 2020. Leftover rubbish is collected once a month! These are a few things that all developing countries should aim for - let’s hope it becomes a reality before it’s too late. #germany#germanyrecycles 📷: @dulgier93
19th drive. 1525h @curious_wanderphile @shivendra_wildlife and DD made their way to Jantar Mantar where they helped organize the people who cared enough to be there to protest the cold blooded murder of Avni the tigress. They roused the crowd to cry "Avni hum sharminda hai, tere katil zinda hai", "Justice for the- mother and cubs" and "Arrest the - murderers" They had brought a neem sapling to the protest for the plantation cum plastic cleanup drive that followed. They made their way back to gate # 6 Rajiv chowk and were joined on the way by @roushan_512 . During the plantation @i.live.to.rise (who's just recovered from dengue and the first outing thing this dedicated volunteer does is come for the drive) and Shivendra got a head start with the plastic cleanup going toe to toe vying for the crown of biggest bagger. After the plantation with @ahamedbasil @almostakash who'd brought a +1 @sketchy_lens they cleaned up the park they were in, the area surrounding gate # 6 and headed to Central Park where they continued the cleanup amidst people enjoying the poetry fest . They were joined by @roshanjha1423 at 1625h for the first time. They regrouped at the kabadiwala (recycler) where Basil and Pradip took their leave. Full of endorphins they had kulhad tea and Litti chokkha near Hanuman mandir post which Devashish, Pratik and @travelfortranquility took their leave while the rest walked to Andhra bhawan and filled in on Hyderabadi biryani. What they couldn't finish they bagged for stray animals. Until next Sunday (18/11/18) keep calm and Kick ass for there is no Earth B! .
Have an environment conservation effort you're involved in reguarly? use #ThereIsNoEarthB and we'll help get the message out by featuring you! .
We haven't inherited the earth from out ancestors; we've borrowed it from our children
Bulk glorious bulk! Trip to my favourite bulk shop @foodforall to stock up all the essentials... got everything I needed from cereal to soap to spices and no plastic in sight (well other than the old ziplocks I’m reusing but I’m reusing these to death and obv won’t replace them). It’s a shame that we don’t have stores like this all over the place making plastic-free shopping easy for all - one day and soon I hope! ✌🏼💚🌎
