It’s hard to believe it was already one year ago that Mary Bowen visited us in SO CA for a 3 day weekend extravaganza of Pilates, viewed through her own special lens! We heard about the history of Pilates from someone who was right there, studying with Joe and Clara in the original Pilates Studio on 8th Avenue in NYC. Mary Bowen, age 88 this year, is still going strong. God Bless and keep her-she is a Living Treasure to our community!

How’s your sliders? No, not a beef sandwich nor those cool beach/ poolside shoes but these little monkeys! They’re cheeky slippery gliding discs that I use in my Pilates Circuit class. These are a fiendish tool that will really challenge your stabilising muscles as you’ve got to use control of that body to master even the simplest movements. Be it legs, hips, core, shoulders, arms- there’s so much you can do with them. They’re also a really good tool for creating exercises that work through a myriad of ranges of motion be it rotation, abduction, adduction and even circumduction. Here’s just one of the exercises I challenge my class members to, it’s much harder than it looks! 😉 I created my Pilates circuit class for people who want the chance to have more bespoke exercise at a fraction of the cost of personal training. The class is limited to a maximum of 6 so each person can get some time with me to work on specific target areas- be it prehab, rehab or general fitness- the beauty of it is you can be at any level as what you get to do is what suits your needs. Running man too hard on the back, arms and shoulders? Give this modified version (also just as challenging) a try! It allows you to modify and remove that quick and sometimes uncontrolled bouncing of the hips from doing a typical running man👊 as well as decrease pressure on the arms from running those legs in and out. This will prepare you better keeping a nice semi closed chain (vs more open) as result of keeping three limbs on the ground at all times really isolating those abs! Anyway! Celebrating the OFFICIAL release of the beautiful RIALTO reformer by @balanced_body 🙂 This reformer is a beautiful hybrid of the classical reformer and the Allegro 2! My favorite part about it is that I don’t need knee pads for my sensitive knees! The carriage cushion is AMAZING!!

Throwback Thursday to a time when I didn’t feel so huge ☺️ (I was actually pregnant in this video but didn’t know!). With only 5 weeks til my due date I’m so grateful to Pilates for getting me up every morning, getting me out of bad moods and for making my body strong for this pregnancy and postnatally. I still experience all the joys pregnancy brings (nausea, aches and pains, tiredness, insomnia etc) but at a much lesser extent than I expected and I have Pilates to thank for that💚 I guess I’m in the right job!🙏

Feeling pretty bliss after the EKKA holiday 😌 feeling even more bliss after trying @biteswithbalance Superfood Peanut Butter & Chocolate Protein Truffles 👌🏼😋
1 can drained and rinsed butter beans
1/2 cup almond meal
3-4 tablespoon @picspeanutbutter
2 tablespoon @happywayau vanilla pea protein
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1-2 tablespoon maple syrup
Process ingredients together in food processor. Roll into balls and freeze for 20 mins. Store in fridge.
For chocolate flavour 🍫 half mixture, add 1 tablespoon cacao powder, extra splash maple syrup and blend again
Climb a 🌳 to hit all the things like back extension, hamstring/hip flexor stretch, abs and a little bit of 💓🔥. Yup this baby will get that heat rate UP! Beautifully demonstrated by @marykatecampfield 🌟
