Shoulders external rotation - Pilates
.
Important small muscles that surround the shoulder joint are called the rotator cuff muscles. They are the key muscles that keep the joint functioning properly. Weakness in any of the four muscles of the rotator cuffs can cause instability, which can lead to numerous injuries.

Many people tend to overwork the front muscles by training only the major muscle groups. They work the back, chest, shoulders, and arms, all of which internally rotate the shoulder. As a result, the muscles used in external rotation are under worked.

As an instructor it’s difficult to get my own practice in. 15-30min between classes may be all I have. So I do a ‘quickie’ - quick warm up straight into advanced Pilates and yoga. .

These two were part of my ‘quickie of the day.’ The 8 angle yoga pose, which can be a difficult pose, requires upper body strength and a strong core. I did the tendon stretch (video) on the reformer to prep into the pose. It helps build a strong lower core as well as strengthen the upper body so you can lift your own body weight. .

Pull-Ups with springs....I did 5 perfect ones only to look at my phone and realize the recording was off 🤦🏼‍♀️ My dad called me right when I started filming which shuts the camera off. So I got to 4 this time...I’m happy with that 😆.

Hace unos días mi súper teacher y amiga @paularamireztrainings me preguntó dónde estaba en mi Snake.
Debo decir que Justo al cumplir el año de postparto fue inmensa la diferencia en mi core, y aunque aún no logro sentir él transverso abdominal por completo, ya es mucha más la fuerza que tengo en el abdomen y en el estado general de mi condición física.
Así que nuevas mamás: tengan paciencia, pero esmérense. Si no hubiera sido tan persistente como lo fui, quién sabe cómo estaría mi abdomen ahorita.

A few days ago my super teacher and friend @paularamireztrainings asked me where I was in my Snake.
I must say that just at the end of my first postpartum year the difference in my core was immense, and although I still can not feel the transverse abdominal completely, the strength I have in the abdominals and the general state of my physical condition it is much stronger .
So new moms: be patient, but be persistent. If I had not been as persistent as I was, who knows how my abdomen would be like right now.

1️⃣ Lateral Flexion - Keep your gaze forward, lower your right ear to your right shoulder and hold for 20 seconds. Repeat to the left.
2️⃣ Flexion + Extension - Squeeze your shoulder blades together, standing up tall. Look towards the ceiling, hold for 10 seconds. Bring your gaze down, tucking your chin to your chest, hold for 10 seconds. Repeat 3x.
3️⃣ Retraction - Tuck your chin down slightly and pull your head back while lengthening the back of your neck. Hold this position for 10 seconds, then release. Repeat 3x.
4️⃣ Rotation - Begin facing forward. Turn your head to the right as far as it is comfortable. Hold for 20 seconds, and then repeat to the left.

There are hips and there are hips that work well. What better way to end a #hipmobility week for improving #pistolsquats then with these @functionalrangeconditioning #mobilitymoves ?!

The first hip flexor stretch not only feels amazing. But because you are eccentrically loading the front of the hip, it teaches the CNS to control the ROM and induces quality tissue adaptations that are resilient.

As for the last two exercises...the last time I did sissy squats, the idea that they were useful for anything other than dance was the furthest thing from my mind. I even performed these balancing pots on my head when I was 13 for a #Filipinodance called Banga- Salidsid (no seriously, look it up).

But if you want super power quads that can continue to improve in strength control and #flexibility then load those puppies up with eccentric training. These seemingly innocuous baby versions kicked my a$$.

Real talk: I go through this cycle almost weekly.  It's especially amplified when I’m working on something deep, challenging and important.  The cycle used to end with spinning stories of all the reasons why I shouldn’t continue.  Today, I’ve learned that if I can find one grain of space for remembering my purpose, I can begin to shift out of my anxious thoughts and recognize that I have a toolbox of support that was made for this very occasion. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Sometimes I wish anxiety wasn't part of my story, but I've come to realize that these feelings are actually a gift (and yes -  I'm writing that sentence through gritted teeth - it's a process, friends!) Understanding the triggers and root causes of my anxiety has helped me to cultivate empathy for myself, which directly helps me practice empathy with others.  Its constant work, but I've found that what's waiting on the other side of the veil of anxiety is my true self and when I make the space for her to show up, that is the best gift of all. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you struggle with the process, or anxiety or both, know that you are not alone.  We all have our battles to fight and we also all have our toolboxes to fill.  Begin to look for the space to shift.  And remember that deep breath is always a good place to start!
