I just felt like sharing. I am nothing if not transparent and watching and following on IG can do terrible things to ALL of our egos and subconsciousness. Comparison is the thief of joy but I'm totally guilty of it at times....and as a movement coach for nearly 20 years I hear it a lot 'I COULD NEVER DO THAT' or 'YOU can do that, I cant'. So many things make me sad about this 1) it assumes they can't and 2) it assumes I've always been able to
There are variations and exercises I cringe and hide from. There are things I have avoided for too long in my personal practice, there are things (this video expresses) that I've never fully delved into before - for a million different reasons
As a coach or expert I/we are human. We are imbalanced in areas, our highlight reel.moatly shows the pretty stuff because we have fears as well....like if you see us NOT be capable at something...will you no longer trust is or allow us to coach you?
So here we go. Full disclosure. I'm working on pistol squats. I've worked a million micro variations to get to the real deal and finally realized I needed the assist from the band in order to really engage the firing pattern
As you can see my right leg - pretty solid (this video is AFTER 3 sets of 7 on the left side and 2 sets of 7 on the right). I ruptured my right hip many moons ago (nearly 20years ago) and it had a lot of attention after surgery. It's always been more balanced (there was no official rehang just me.for years and then a pilates trainer and then my personal trainer) but that left side....ooopf...it's time.it caught up. It struggles. It likes like it doesn't know how to fire and balance here....but what I can say is that since giving it focus and thought slow, small attention...it's DRAMATICALLY improved on the last 4 weeks. Like I know this video is sad but this is a HUGE improvement
We all have goals
We all have have work to do
We all feel lesser than when we can't do things very well
I'm practicing what I preach: I can't be good at it if I don't do it, no one's good at everything, and if you want to be good at it you'll need to fail at it many times
