A couple years ago when I was working in a studio in Seattle, a woman came to my circuit class and looked me up and down and said perplexed, “You’re the Pilates Instructor? You don’t look like a Pilates Instructor.” I smiled at her kindly, told her I was indeed the teacher and introduced myself. While doing the class she asked if I wanted to do the workout with the class, because it looked like I needed it. Yet, a lot of my regulars turned to look at her and exclaimed “No!!! Don’t do that!” The new girl wasn’t aware of my reputation yet, nor that my body type can be deceiving. She didn’t let up, she asked if I had diabetes, if I was certain? Because it looked like I might have it... so finally, I had the class do an exercise that was quite challenging and I spoke clearly and calmly as I demonstrated. When I asked the new student if she could feel the work, she couldn’t respond because she was struggling so badly to hold the pose. When class was over, she left without a word and I thought that would be the last time I would see her. No, the following week she came back and apologized to me about judging me prematurely. After that, she was a regular to my classes.

I’m sharing this story because I think it is important to not only be open minded about what strength ‘looks’ like, but also to have a good attitude about being confronted by others who think they have a right to judge someone by their preconceived notions on such topic. •
At the end of the day, strength comes from those who honor their body and take the time to nourish it and get to know it through this journey, not by how you physically look.

took a hundred pictures, was surprised with a handpainted frame and the cutest dessert jar and Literally danced and turned up like there was tomorrow!🥰

stretching is so vital that it should be incorporated as a way of life, every day, whether you are set to exercise or not. Stretching helps keep our muscles healthy, strong and flexible. Stretching further helps maintain flexibility and range of motion within our joints. Without stretching, our muscles can become weak, and the range of motion within our joints can decrease, leaving us not only feeling stiff and unable to extend all of the way but also susceptible to injuries like muscle tears, strains, and weakened muscles. These can further lead to joint injuries from the inability to support the joints. Stretching daily can also improve circulation within the body and help relieve stress. .

If you haven’t tried one, a plank may look easy, almost too easy to be beneficial, but this is deceiving. While getting into the proper form is straightforward, holding the position takes strength and endurance in your abs, back and core.
