~ Fussy eating II ~ would your children balk at the idea of eating broccoli? Would you like some more tips for encouraging relaxed and joyful eating in your family? In this follow-up to last week’s post, I’m focusing on what else you can do that actually works. .
.
1. Keep introducing new and unfamiliar foods. We want our children to enjoy a broad range of foods, and that can’t happen if we keep giving them the same things.
2. Studies have shown that repeated exposure of foods builds trust and confidence, so keep giving them food they don’t like - without pressure.
3. Get children involved; invest in a suitable knife and peeler (keep your knives sharp; sharp knives give cleaner cuts, blunt knives give nasty, messy cuts), and get them to cut the carrots, pod the beans, peel the potatoes etc. 
4. Serve vegetables with pride. It’s tempting to hide them in sauces etc., but, over time, disguising them gives the impression they are bad or unpleasant. 
5. Don’t use food to reward, punish or to give comfort. Giving a child a sweet or chocolate when they’re hurt isn’t the right association – they need to learn other, more appropriate ways of soothing themselves.
6. Catch them when they’re really hungry: put out vegetables and hummus when they’re ravenous and clamouring for their meal. If children are really hungry they should eat it up, especially if you ignore whether they do or not. 
7. No snacks; you need your children to be hungry for a meal - we should all be hungry before we eat, it’s natural, and motivating.
8. Everyone gets the same food – there is no negotiation before anyone has sat down. If your child leaves food or doesn’t want to eat something, that’s totally fine – no drama, it’s their choice, no filling up on snacks later. 
9. Don’t use pudding as a reward or punishment If they can’t have pudding until they’ve finished their main course, that is what you’re doing; stop.
10. Don’t tolerate criticism of food; it’s not acceptable to be rude. If they have nothing good to say about it, they shouldn’t say anything at all.

BEEF & PUMPKIN LASAGNE 
One of my boys favourites is on this week’s meal plan 💛 The extra pumpkin and mushrooms gives a veggie boost! 
Recipe 
Bolognaise Sauce 🍎1 onion (finely chopped) 🍎2 clove of garlic (crushed) 🍎2 carrots (finely chopped) 🍎80g celery (finely chopped) 🍎1 cup of pumpkin diced (pre cook)
🍎½ cup of button mushrooms diced
🍎30ml olive oil
🍎1 tsp mixed Italian herbs
🍎1 can diced tomatoes
🍎2 tbs balsamic vinegar

Cheese Sauce 🍎40g butter
🍎40 plain flour
🍎450ml milk
🍎60 cheese (grated) 
Heat 10ml of the olive oil in large saucepan over medium-high heat. Cook onion, garlic, carrots & celery until soft. Add mince and rest of olive oil, cook breaking up with a wooden spoon until browned. · Add can of tomatoes, balsamic vinegar, pumpkin & mushrooms. Bring to boil & reduce to simmer for 20 minutes. · Meanwhile cook start making cheese sauce in a separate saucepan, melt butter and flour in a saucepan over medium heat, use a whisk to stir to avoid lumps. Remove from heat and slowly add milk whisking until smooth. Return to medium heat and add grated cheese cooking for 10 minutes until sauce thickens · Place 1 lasagne sheet at the bottom of dish (I use pre cooked lasagne sheets) then add meat, then sauce repeat this and then finish with a lasagne sheet topped with cheese sauce and extra grated cheese. · Cook for about 25-30 minutes on 180 degrees celcius 💛

Gluten free preschooler dinner win. Millet couscous with chicken, kumara, carrot, chopped dates & apricots, chicken stock, olive oil and lemon juice. Served with extra whole dried dates and apricots on the side as a treat. Result: gobbled!

How many times have you said, “I’m going to start that program, cleanse, regimen, but…”? 😚

Or I wish I could have lost that weight, but... I used to be the QUEEN of “Buts”. 🙄

There was a but after everything I said I wanted to, or was “going to” do:

But…my knees hurt.

But…I can’t sit for that long.

But…I have an appointment.

But…work.

But…I don’t have time.

But…I’m a picky eater.

But…I don’t know how.

Buts became an addiction. Just like Jelly Belly’s, Entenmann’s cakes and Swedish Fish were…

These “treats” were only serving my taste buds. They were actually causing my chronic health issues to get WORSE—just disguised in innocent “low calorie” or “low fat” packages. 😒

It wasn’t until I learned to up level the foods I was eating, that my body began to feel better. 🙃

And when you up level those buts with reframes of how “I can” and “I am”… that you will open yourself up to the change you seek. 😀

I’ve come to realize buts are like that inflammation that’s wreaking havoc on my body and preventing me from healing. 
Buts are wreaking havoc on my mindset and preventing me from allowing myself to embark on the things that “I know” will assist me with healing. 
BUT only you can decide when you’ve had enough of the “buts” and take forward action, instead of constantly hitting the breaks with buts 😉

This corn chowder was full of accepted ingredients/foods, and I got hopeful that it would be a hit. There was even a secret ingredient....gnocchi as my guys love them.

I used to go directly to the appetizer menu and order the tastiest looking fried option as my meal. That wasn’t getting me any closer to my goals though 😕 I definitely still enjoy those foods sometimes. Just not EVERY time.

My son took a bite of every color to see if they tasted different 😄 While he didn’t clean the plate, this was definitely the most he’s eaten and played with peppers! That’s a big win in my book!!

I don't have a "one bite rule", but I do include 1 bite on the plate that they don’t have to eat. If you put a toothpick in the food, they will almost always pick it up. And every time they pick it up or even look at a food it's an exposure. The more exposures the more likely they are to eat it! 🙌⠀

Mine are all clean and 100% approved by my OB and my lactation consultant🐰🐰 (I never saw a drop in my supply and I’m still nursing at 19 months). #extendednursing ⁣

YES! You can build a business, and a successful one at that, while putting your family first and raising little ones! I’m not telling you it’s easy by any means lol! It is hard and it takes sacrifice - like getting up a lot earlier than you actually want to. But by putting my family first and knowing that all my hard work is for them keeps me driven, dedicated and willing to sacrifice sleep and reality tv!! (Okay okay i still watch Southern Charm and Big Brother lol). It all depends on what YOU want from your life, what work you are willing to put in and what you are willing to give up to get where you want to be 💁🏼‍♀️⁣

🥔👶🏻my little Leia has been loving broccoli a little extra lately so i figured why not take a classic combo like 🌳 and 🧀and mash together with 🥔🥔🥔?! this is also a perfect way to get your #pickyeater to try 🌳especially if they already love 🧀and 🥔!

🍽makes 10-11 tots <may double recipe> 4 red potatoes - remove skins, boil and mash plain. in the meantime cook about 1/4 cup broccoli and chop. mix together broccoli🌳, mashed potato🥔 and 1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese🧀. roll into a small ball shape. roll into plain whole wheat breadcrumb. <this is a crucial step> place the tots on a baking sheet and freeze ❄️for 1 hour <this prevents a gooey mess> take the tots out of the freezer and bake on 350 degrees for 25 minutes.
