Yesterday evening we saw yet another piece of amazing jewellery go under the hammer at auction for a record breaking price. The piece was a large, drop-shaped natural pearl pendant that once belonged to the French Queen Marie Antoinette. The pendant sold for an astounding $36 million dollars, which Sotheby’s is calling a record breaking price for a pearl at auction.
Like many of the 10 former Marie Antoinette pieces up for sale on Wednesday evening, the pendant obliterated the pre-auction price of $1m-$2m (bet the person who valued that felt a bit stupid 😂).
Sotheby’s billed the sale as a once-in-a-lifetime chance to scoop up heirlooms and jewels that have been held in the Bourbon-Parma dynasty for generations. Some of the Marie Antoinette jewellery had not been seen in public for 200 years until now.
Marie Antoinette was the wife of King Louis XVI, and was unfortunately executed in France’s revolutionary fervor in 1793. Before falling victim to the guillotine, she had secretly smuggled abroad some of her most treasured possessions (such as her favorite pieces of jewellery) to her relatives! What an amazing piece of history to own!
We’ve now seen two amazing pieces this week break records in the auction house and we’ll be sure to update you if we see anymore records broken! .

14 Nov 2018 .
a tradition I have of sorts, is going for a good long walk in central London. I love the crowds, mayhem, artistic expressions at every turn; and yet there is a feeling of solitude and isolation amid it all... .
hope you are having a wonderful Wednesday! .
