HOME is a collection of photographs connecting my twenty years of life by what was home for the first twelve years of my life in Alberta, Canada, and what is now becoming home over these last eight years in Arizona, United States. The arrangement of photographs shows a timeline starting with landscapes of my becoming home and then rewinding back to my original home. These years are represented by connecting the horizons of the twenty landscapes, twelve Alberta, eight Arizona. This panorama consists of eight Arizona and twelve Alberta landscapes for the number of years I have lived in each place. Being only a couple of years away from entering a new chapter in my life where I have lived in Arizona just as long as I have Alberta, I became influenced to create a landscape project representing my feelings towards these places. My emotions behind each of these different settings are now becoming connected as each year passes. Besides the obvious climate differences, to me there is now a similar feeling with the same emotion when capturing these meaningful landscapes. To me home isn’t just a physical place such as a house; it’s an emotional bond towards the surroundings in my environment and feeling connected to it as well. Connecting these places are important as the feelings of comfort and safety are greatly valued in most anyone’s mindset of “home” including my own. Arizona did not feel like home at first and now it is feeling like home, just like where I was born and raised. I had feared for a long while that Arizona would not be my home but I am finally settling into my new environment which I am more than happy to now call my home.
A woman I met 5 years ago predicted I would be showing my photos in an art gallery. I balked at the idea because I had stopped taking pictures for several years. Last night was my first gallery show! #neversaynever#photoshow#photogallery#photography
