During my days as a kid, I remember waking up to the sound of sparrows chirping around. As I would wait for the school bus in the morning, these sparrows would fly past me and I would feel happy looking at the freshness around. Slowly and steadily, with buildings coming up, pollution increasing and the environment in towns degrading day by day, we’ve lost these sparrows and their chirps. Mornings haven’t been the same. A void has been created.
Today, I woke up to the sound of sparrows and bulbuls chirping around. As I came out to the balcony, these birds flew past me in their quirky manner as happy as they could get. As I looked around holding my hand in the railings, I could see those days, two decades back, when I used to sense this happiness every morning. Mornings which lent a breath of freshness around. As I drove a few kilometers around in the area, I could see a society being built with concrete work in full swing. I could see a stretch where the road was being worked for making it a four lane highway. You know what, a few years down the line, the birds here would cease to exist as well. Materialistic needs screaming?
