A busy atmosphère ! —
For the press, Peugeot displayed different styling studies from that time but also from the past. In this patchwork, they unveiled several rare documents:
• In the foreground - left: the drawing board unveils a sketch of a mid-engined sports coupé which foreshadows 10 years earlier the 1984 Quasar concept.
• In the foreground - center: a wired sitting buck of the Coupé J. That dropped Coupé was derived from the initial Project J which paved the way to the future 305. (see > http://bit.ly/CDA873).
• Behind the wired buck, the front-end view is the J Saloon mock-up (see > http://bit.ly/CDA872).
• In the background, the 3-windowed mock-up is the in-house proposal for the 505, in competition against the Pininfarina's one.
• Finally in the foreground - right, the two clay models are related to the Coupé J and the J7 successor. That latter project done in the early 70s never saw the light. When Peugeot took over Citroën, they inherited of the C35 programme.

The tradition of ark-like, rear-drive, long-wheelbase #Peugeot wagons dated all the way back to the 402 #Familiale of the thirties, but the 505 wagon as the last of that breed. There have been later wagons - 406/407/508 - but they aren’t quite as ark-like as the 505 and its predecessors, and the 505 was the last rear-drive Peugeot. This is mostly due to the ascendency of the minivans and SUVs (and later, “crossovers”) - conventional #wagons today are the sportier kind, rather than the pure utilitarian kind.

Su historia comienza en la segunda mitad de la década de los 70, en aquel momento el Peugeot 504, disfrutaba de una gran acogida, siendo un automóvil con una elevada demanda, no obstante la salida al mercado de nuevos automóviles con prestaciones más modernas, obligó a comenzar a diseñar el Peugeot 505, que finalmente sería presentado a la sociedad en 1979. El vehículo rápidamente cosechó buenas críticas, que defendían su parecido estético con el Peugeot 504, y alababan su facilidad de maniobra y su facilidad de conducción. El modelo estuvo disponible en dos carrocerías distintas la verlas y la familia. Y con la opción de incorporar motor de gasolina o diésel con potencias mínimas que rondaban los 70 CV y unas máximas de 180 CV. Tras 8 años en producción, sería con el lanzamiento del 405 que el número de unidades vendidas del 505 descendió considerablemente, hasta que en 1991 cesaría su producción en Europa y posteriormente, en 1995 cesaría su producción en Argentina. Por nuestra parte la fantástica unidad que aquí se muestra fue fotografiada en una concentración de coches clásicos en Villatoro, Ávila hace unos meses, en un estado de conservación bastante bueno. Su primer año en la carrera no tubo mucho éxito, especialmente debido a problemas electrónicos. Poco después, su poder aumenta a 550 caballos de fuerza. El 505 nunca fue campeón de Francia, sin embargo, marcó a toda una generación gracias a su apariencia de culturismo. El 505 Turbo que presentamos es un ejemplo raro que se ejecutó en la categoría de Superproducción en la década de 1980, incluida la rueda del famoso conductor Jean-Pierre Jabouille. El automóvil aún se encuentra en la misma configuración que cuando fue fotografiado en el circuito Paul Ricard en 1986 y sus calcomanías permanecieron iguales.
