Today, in between dance rehearsals, art workshops, holiday festivities, and my husband's first hip-hop dance performance, I will be knitting. Such a handy way to keep oneself in the present to the moment amidst the mayhem. Also, I like this outfit. My mint #persephonepants in Cone Mills denim pair super well with the caramel goodness of my #ramonacardigan . Do you sew, but haven't picked up knitting yet? You are being fiber-evangelized. 😆
My #bestnine2018 : earthy colours, natural dyeing experiments and those #persephonepants (it's time I sewed another pair, if I only could find some good denim!). Thanks for all the love! It's been a fun year!
Super messy sewing room, super awesome @annaallenclothing #persephonepants . Sorry about the censorship blotches, I forgot to hide an in-progress Xmas gift and I just couldn’t wait to share these 😜This pair is in a 10oz railroad denim from fabric.com. I made them slightly cropped but my next pair will be a little longer. The first pic shows the second set of darts I had to add to get the waist fit right but overall this pattern is worth every bit of hype.
I got this canvas from @califabrics 6ish months ago and finally cut into it. I stalked the #persephonepants feed soOoO many times and finally decided it was TIME! I’m considering this my test pair bc they aren’t perfect but they’re good enough for me 😊 only modification was replacing the button fly with a zipper using the #mndawn instructions. Anywho I’ll be wearing these for the next three months, and already cutting my second pair 🤓 // pattern from @annaallenclothing
Made some more #persephonepants in a light denim for ultimate mom jeans. Still getting used to the wide legs though... so weird after years of skinny jeans. And been wearing my #wovenlinespullover so much lately. It’s so warm and cozy😍😍😍
#persephonepants in Red drill all done, I feel very festive in them! I took these photos moments before a downpour so they’re a bit rushed but you get the idea! Not gonna lie I had a few issues with the waistband being too small.. but I’ve decided that it must be a printing or sticking error because it’s happened in every pair... so I think I’ll reprint those sheets and see if next time it will be right. Actually wore them out for dinner last night long with the hem raw and not done... nobody noticed and I think if I had cut them just a smidge longer I would have kept these ones long instead of cropped. Love them, just need to make some more tops that go with bright red! I feel so much more like me when I’m in handmade don’t you?
Love my new heavy denim pair of Persephone pants! Thrifted this really great quality denim and used an unbleached cotton thread for topstitching. Maybe not the most durable move, but the combo was speaking to me at the time. All the major seams are felled and triple stitched anyways. Handmade buttonholes in a matching thread. I think I’ll get a lot of wear out of these this winter and even more in the spring. And they cost me $20. 🤜🏽💥🤛🏽 Sorry for the grainy pics- it’s way too cold for an outdoor photo shoot. 🤘🏽
Finally made me some #persephonepants Overall I’m very satisfied with how they turned out, especially since I did not make a straight size - I went up a hip size and down on the waist. I my darts pucker a bit and my buttons aren’t straight (first time doing buttons!) but it was so gratifying to piece together this pattern. This was probably the most challenging pattern I’ve made and it made me feel so accomplished! #memade#slowfashion#imademyclothes
Heading out for a walk with my dog in my #memades . Hazel is wondering if we can just get on with it already. 🤣. Modified #toastersweater in a cozy French terry from @stonemountainfabric . And my modified mid-rise #persephonepants in duck cloth from @joann_stores. This is pretty much my uniform this winter...toaster sweaters and wide leg pants. #seattlesews#imakemyownclothes
//Basic basics// I bought the gorgeous #lucidadress on saturday when @fridaypatterncompany announced their sale and had it sewn up by today// I've had the pattern earmarked as a #gimmegimme since they released it with the idea to make it into a top instead// I added 10cm to the length, added a neckband and changed the ties to go down instead// Fabric is a poly cotton blend from @rathdownefabrics // I absolutely love this, it's the perfect "basic black tee" for me (ahem extra everyday and embracing it) and I already want to make a million more 🌟🌟// Pants are @annaallenclothing #persephonepants in army cotton drill from #clearit and feature my First Ever Zip Fly 💪💪// There are obviously plans to make a matching bumbag and hat// #handmadethreads#sewing#sewingtall
A sizing lament for sewists: why is sizing for rigid denim high waisted pants so weird for me? Here is my muslin for Megan Nielsen’s Dawn jeans. The guidelines say my 38 inch hips will fit into size 8 pants. I’ve been burned before with this style (hi Anna Allen Persephone!) so I cut a ten. And lo, still at least s full size too small. Srsly, I fit neatly into the recommended hip size in every other style of skirt or pants—why is this one so off? Anyone else have the same issue? Are my #mombod haunches truly so oddly shaped? #persephonepants#mndawn#isewmyownclothes#sewingfail
I made this modified @truebias #roscoeblouse last night and I think I'm into it. It always takes me a bit to get used to a new silhouette but I have a feeling this will be the first of many poofy blouses. Fabric is my favorite cotton double gauze from @blackbirdfabrics .
Also featuring my most beloved pair of #persephonepants in cone Mills 12oz denim.
The beautiful @faburikku_ shares with us her sewing journey on this gorgeous pair of jeans using our Japanese selvedge denim, make sure you expand to read the entire post.
1. How did you get into sewing?
I was very lucky to have an extremely creative step-sister while growing up, and in the school holidays she would help me create some self-drafted clothes. The most memorable creation being a pair of bright blue wide-legged pants, with thick black mesh on the knees! 😂 Since then, I've just bobbed in and out of sewing, mainly doing things like hemming pants (#lifeofashorty ), until just over a year ago, when I suddenly became obsessed with #makingallthethings !!
2. What's the most challenging part when sewing with denim?
I found this denim really beautiful to sew with. The only challenge I encountered was when my machine had to sew bar tacks through multiple layers of the stuff! Needless to say, there was a teensy bit of unpicking and swearing, until I found a solution! I ended up just doing a really dense zig zag stitch instead, and thankfully, it still looks like a bar tack! Next time, I'm going to get up the guts to sew with a contrasting topstitch thread 😁.
3. Tell us about your next #drapersproject .
I know it's terribly boring, but I have more of the Japanese selvedge denim, put aside to make another pair of #persephonepants 🙈. I know the pair I've already made is going to g.
#toastersweater complete in less than 2 hours- minus taping the pdf together and cutting. It is the winter wardrobe staple I was missing . Such a clever pattern, I adore the double needle topstitching , it gives it a chic American Apparel vibe!! I don’t have very many knit garments, appreciating the softness and warmth. Forgive my hair, I haven’t brushed it for a few days, I am so sore from Monday’s yoga class, I can hardly move my arm.😂 I would suggest the pattern sizing recommendations- I thought to size up to a large, and glad I used the medium.

#DecemberOfSweaters day six. It’s going to be bitterly cold today so I’m wearing base layers. There’s debate on whether the wide leg pant trend is compatible with cold temps, but I find that I can wear them with long johns and/or leg warmers. I have above-the-knee knit leg warmers and they guard against any draft, and I can slip them off once I get inside.
Info: Piece of Silver by @veerarain published in @laine_magazine Issue 1, knit in @cedarhouseyarns Sapling Sock in “toasted marshmallow,” @abacusdyeworks Authentic Sock in “April 14th, 2014,” and @woolenboon Boon Classic in “dirty chai.” Ravelry project name “Faded Piece of Silver”
Made: December 21, 2017 - Januarys 23, 2018
Size & Mods: Small. The pattern was written for one color, but I “faded” three colors by alternating two colors over 8 rows to transition from one yarn to the next. I used a German twisted cast on for the neckline (it’s knit top-down).
What I love: I love how the fade worked out. The cropped slightly boxy shape is a style I really like to wear.
What I'd change: The neckline wants to stretch out. I think it would be better to knit top down from the neckline, then pick up stitches for the collar and knit up. The “dirty chai” color had a lot more black in one end of the skein, so one sleeve looks a lot darker than the other.
Extra thoughts: As I mentioned in a previous day, turtlenecks always feel weird to me so I don’t know why I keep knitting them. I really hated the neck when I wore it folded down, but I’ve found that if I just scrunch it down without folding I like the way it looks and doesn’t feel strangle-y.
I’ll be honest, I love the #memade stuff, but it’s rarely my absolute favorite in my closet. My favorite sweaters are my Babaa with my stuff being a close second. These #persephonepants though. These are my absolute favorite pants. I almost want to order more of this exact same denim and make a pair for every day of the week.
Lastly, i bought this shirt after Trump was elected.
When that lady at Joann’s doubted my purchase of duck cloth for clothing. I raise you a finished pair of #persephonepants . I knocked them out yesterday and am so happy.
I still need to hem them. And I’m not mentioning the fact my mirror fell over and broke immediately after I took this.
#tiptuesday 🧵Never let a button-fly stand in your way, when swapping in a zipper is such an easy mod 🧵 .
These pictures make my ❤️ sing - sewing brings us together in ways that make all the seamripping and pattern taping well worth it. Thank you @wellfibre for getting us all together!

Another day another winery. I don’t like wine but the grounds were breathtakingly beautiful and the food was delicious🌵

#persephonepants no.2 👖
Once again, I love these. This is a really nice simple pattern from @annaallenclothing
These fit a little bigger than the blue denim ones I made, but they haven’t been washed yet (after the initial fabric wash), so hopefully this isn’t because I made cutting/sewing mistakes. Though my 2nd attempt at something is usually my worst.
I’ve also learned that I prefer the heavy heavy denim. 13 ounces is my fave, which I think mimics #kammpants
The #heroinejeans I made are a heavier denim than my two Persephones and I def like the weight and feel better. White denim ones are next (can’t decide between the two patterns) but I will be getting some super heavy stuff :)
My finished #persephonepants in velvet. These have a clear #secretpajamas feel to them, and served me well through a long day of prepping and performing a concert with one of the choirs I am conducting.
Here are my 2nd edition Persephone pants! Made with some delish Japanese selvedge denim from Drapers Fabrics 😍. I sized down to a size 0 for this pair, with absolutely no mods (apart from shortening the inseam for my 150cm frame!). Based on the measurement chart, these should be too small for me (I’m 27” waist and 37” hips), but once I got through the wearing-in phase (a fair bit of sucking in had to be done to get them done up for a while!!!), they have become the perfect fit! Next time, I think the only thing I’ll do differently is leave out the waist darts, as it’s still a tad firm there. I finished these around 3 weeks ago, and they have barely been taken off in that time. Hello second skin!
I did lots and lots of Black Friday and Cyber Monday/week shopping for everyone’s gifts. That said, I’m kind of proud to report that I only bought one cut of fabric and one pattern, which I will be tackling in January because there’s no way I have time to take on my first ever pair of pants in December. 👖
I absolutely love this @robertkaufman Ventana twill in Smoke Blue, and bought it quickly because we are having such a hard time keeping that fabric stocked at @imaginegnats and this color it’s just perfect. 💙👌🏻 I bought the #persephonepants through @upcraftclub who has amazing deals on their patterns all month. Hopefully by the time I finish these I’ll have figured out some shoes that I can wear with them. 👞🥿👢🤷🏻♀️
Alright, I know I caught the late late #persephonepants trolley but consider me a #belieber . 🙌 They were a perfect fit right out the box and I’m planning my next hundred pairs. The top is an #inaritee with fabric from our old #shibori workshop and I made the pants with some duck canvas from @moodfabrics I’ve had for years. #stashbusting
Adding 10“ to the inseam of my soon to become #velvet#persephonepants - think that’s a new record adjustment for me. Thing is I want them to fit over heels, and then need to go from 28” to 38” inkluding seam allowance. Will omit front pocket for less bulk, and might consider zip instead of buttons. But haven’t quite made up my mind about that yet. #sewingtall#sewingvelvet#sysysy
//Early Christmas// #persephonepants and a self drafted off the shoulder top in luxe linen I got from @thedrapery for my family's early christmas// This top can be worn in multiple ways and was a good reminder to review clothes before I pass them on to my (eager) sister// My scarf was my grandmas and still smells like her perfume 😍// #sewing#handmadethreads#sewingtall
Just wanted to share a custom pair of #persephonepants I made recently. One of a few last orders I accepted for this year. And now I really gotta finish that damn sewing pattern I’ve been talking about for months. Geez Anna get with the program! 😁 Seriously, for real this time! And I’ll let you all know as soon as I’m accepting pattern testers. Don’t bother writing me a DM, I’ll update here as soon as I’m ready for testing. 😉 Anyway, I had to show off these sailor pants because this rigid 12oz Cone Mills denim from @threadbarefabrics is everything! And it wears in beautifully. Most people can get by with just 1-1/2 yards for the Persephones because it’s so wide. I also swear by the lighter #30 topstitching thread from the Etsy shop @citronjeans . The lighter thread works both in my bobbin and also for topstitching and no messing around with my bobbin tension. Okay, back to illustrating my pattern instructions!!
New pants I made. I’m so happy that high waisted pants are back in style. These are the #persephonepants by @annaallenclothing I used a fabric with a lot of stretch—Ace stretch twill from #marcytiltonfabrics This is actually 67% rayon, 28% nylon and 5% spandex. My muslin was too small and gave me a wedgie in the rear—-to fix this, I did 3 things: 1) added 5/8” length to the crotch straight across where the pattern adjustment is located, 2) used a fabric with some stretch, and 3) I lost 5 pounds. Voila -pants that fit perfectly. For #bpsewvember day 30 “2019 plans”—I will be making more pants. Planning to make another Persephone in bottle green. Will also be making the Hudson pants and the Robinson trousers.
One of the three mammals in this picture got stuck in a very tall oak tree this morning. 😼 She's been getting the "mom look" ever since. Better used on cats than kids, I suppose. 😸 Up side? Fun story for the kids to write and illustrate! #homeschoolwin 🖤 Wearing my cat rescuing outfit: #gypsumskirt + thrifted tee. (This cropped tee reminds me of the #mnbriar , no? It's fun to wear with my Gypsums, #arenitepants and #persephonepants .)
Squeezing in some sewing before I have to go to the hospital. Trying to progress my second pair of #persephonepants It gets dark so early these days and I find myself with no energy to sew or craft. Now I understand why bears hibernate through winter 😅🐻❄️
Sewist squad....comin’ in hot! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I am humbly honored to be a part of this community of talented women.

#squadgoals . Had a blast documenting our #persephonepants a few weeks back while I was in Kansas City! These ladies are talented and sweet and it was SO nice to be in a group of fellow-seamstresses! Thank you to @meghantuttlephotography for capturing all the fun we had and being a general gem of a person! 🧡
Just goes to show, if you jokingly throw a random shout out in your stories to recreate a photo...it just might happen. 😆
Pattern: Persephone Pants by @annaallenclothing
I have literally lived in these #persephonepants since I made them. So comfortable and go with everything. Tee is a not oversized @themakersatelier oversized tee. And swipe for the best coat in the world (from J Crew). Oh and bare ankles literally until I can’t feel them. #wornonwednesday
The denim may be a bit too rigid, the fit around my b*tt a bit too tight, the legs just a bit too short. But even if I am not completely happy with them, I do like to wear my Persephone pants and do so almost daily.
Specifications: after three attempts and modifications, I am not sure what size I ended up with. I think it must be an 8. Used 1 meter of 150 centimeter wide fabric. Added a zipper instead of buttons (don't like the bulk and making button holes) and omitted the pockets and belt loops.
